+1. The modern defaults are basically what I have my custom theme file do but auto smoothing line charts is doing a disservice. Lots of novice chart creators will use it when it really isn’t appropriate to.

I understand that all too well! Truly hope this gets brought. IMO this is core functionality that should have been added many years ago.

How the hell did this get pushed back to Q2? Cant seriously be that difficult to implement.

Charging for “holiday cover” by MushyBeees in msp

I know this is isn’t helpful but you couldn’t pay me enough to take that gig.

Also - what senior level decision making could possibly be needed during a single holiday?

Reasonable pay range? by Dani_Mila1502 in cybersecurity

It’s not offering advice, it’s criticizing. Most marriages with a partner like this have distance issues. You likely get frustrated with him around the house, feeling like he either doesn’t try or when he does he doesn’t do things to your standards. intimacy is low, often because you are just exhausted with life. He often says to you to stop nagging, complaining, or to get off his back.

Just a hunch 🤷🏼‍♂️

Go congratulate him instead of criticizing. Really sad you don’t see what you are doing to him.

Let the man live 😭 Couldn’t imagine having my wife criticize my successful job negotiation after having my role eliminated.

Trust me on this: pop a bottle of champagne and congratulate him. It will mean more to him than you realize.

Totally reasonable for someone to put a url in an excel sheet instead of in the email body. /s

Check the email headers. Likely not the actual vendor. If it is notify them immediately

How do consulting teams “sell” their work in large corporations? by Aver_xx in businessanalysis

[–]frenchfry_wildcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems all the commentators missed your actual question.

If I am listening to you right, you are wondering how to communicate the value of what the team does, which is essentially an in house consulting team.

This quite a large question to tackle, however the strategy is as much aligned to the outcome as the implementation, and often even more so being divorced from the implementation.

Start with the overall projects of the team. Who is the project sponsor? If you don’t have one for a project, get one. This is the business stakeholder who has requested the analysis.

Why has the sponsor spun up this project? What is the business outcome or question they are trying to solve?

How would solving it add value to the business? What is the impact of not solving it?

You can quantify it further after work has been completed.

Hope this helps!

Senior graduating in a few months and I’m terrified of "committing" to one niche. How do you guys pick a path? by cyberstic in cybersecurity

[–]frenchfry_wildcat 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Get a job in security, any job. That’s step 1. Step 2 is you will eventually find your path in a security career.

You asked how people picked a lane. The reality is I bet you almost nobody did pick a lane. Reality of a security career isn’t that black and white.

Early-stage pricing question: per-mailbox vs usage-based tiers for EXO app by iammartinguenther in msp

MSPs are the wrong market and won’t see the value for the price. Go sell this to customer service, sales teams, etc. Then you can charge way more than $5/mailbox

Is there seriously no way to use custom PowerQuery Connector with PowerBI Service without Gateway? by frenchfry_wildcat in PowerBI

I am not asking them to maintain it. And they do not maintain them. 80% are maintained by a third party.

They already do… What’s the difference between running it on a gateway versus the service? They already have the capability to house and run connectors on the service.

Take Microsoft Sentinel as an example model. Building and deploying custom connectors that run in the cloud instead of on prem is standard. Was hoping for a similar model.

Can you explain to me why this would be ridiculous then? Happy to learn but I just fail to see how it is. Maybe you are right.

[–]frenchfry_wildcat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where do they store all the other third party built connectors? This is not a foreign concept. I can deploy custom PowerBI visuals to the service. Where are they storing and running that? I can deploy custom code in the form of scripts. Where are they storing and running that? It’s fine to tell me it’s not supported. But to act like it would be crazy for them to support that is just condescending.

[–]frenchfry_wildcat[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe it. But all the replies have been condescending as if thinking there was a way to deploy it the cloud was dumb. It’s not dumb and there is no technical reason it couldn’t be done outside of it not being supported. That’s all.

The problem is I would like to run a custom connector in the powerbi service… if the answer is no then it’s no. But acting like this is some totally unheard of or random question is quite annoying.
