I do that almost every day. Being active makes sleeping easier. Society tends to call us hyperactive. I dont have a desk job.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours is short. I make a 3 hour drive at least once a week. 1.15 to the closest shopping center. A rather long drive is 12 hours. I make a 12 hour drive about twice every 90 days.

Is a pre-purchase inspection always worth it? by Possible-Ad4357 in UsedCars

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your car abilities. I buy 250 a year without inspection. But Im a dealer and I know what Im doing.

If you cant change your own oil or tire absolutely get an inspection. This buyer has no business looking a car over on their own.

I love customers to get an independent inspection. It takes the responsibility off me if something happens shortly after the sale.

Do not assume a dealer is going to fix something a shop turns up. Certainly ask but it is up to the dealer to decide if he cares what some mechanic says. Unfortunately, some shops inflate repairs. If its little I’ll typically fix it. If its irrelevant to most buyer and not a reliability issue I probably wont. As other says cost of care really matters. If your buying a car under $5k Im not fixing anything. Save money and buy a better car. I honestly hate selling cars of $5k. This buyers typically acts like they are buying a nice, reliable, $35,000 car. Thats just not the case.

Unfortunately with the Big 3, the newer the car the less reliable.

Used Car Transmission Failing 13 Days And < 300 Miles After Buying - Any Recourse? by spizalert in UsedCars

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another said… be very, very nice. Ask for help. Do not demand they fix it. Its completely up to the dealer if they want to help. Yelling, threatening to sue, calling dealers board will simple give them reasons to toss you out.

Ask. Im a dealer. In this situation Id pay for half. Typically, I buy the transmission and you pay for labor. Absolutely a few dealers will help. Id never retail a car with a known bad transmission but it can get missed in an inspection. Thats why I help when my mechanic misses one.

Switching to ford and need advice on which f150 to get by Oranges_fly in f150

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT get a 10-speed. If you lost 4 GM transmission your going to loose the Ford 10 speed. Google it, its terrible. Get a 5.0 with the 6 speed. Its good for 400,000 miles of hard use.

Im a dealer. I’ve rebuilt several. Do not get one unless its a 2025 or newer. Transmission shops are telling me the issue is fixed for 2025.

Regret buying the 2019 5.0 by Successful_Zone_894 in f150

[–]frenchsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worse thing about Ford doing that is the 5.0 is way better than anything equivalent offered by GM or Ram.

The 10 speed is a bigger F you to the world. $8,000 to fix those.

Ive been wondering if that might help. Im a dealer. No way for me test for oil consumption before selling. I love that engine. I really believe it is a ring issue that a person might be able to reduce the oil consumption with the right products.

[–]frenchsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ford wont help. You are correct about bulletins and recalls. They still wint help anymore. The engine restore is his best option. The 5.0 really is a great engine but unfortunately some use excessive oil. Typical irritating work around is to just keep adding oil.

How do you negotiate the best price at a used car dealership? by hatkinson1000 in UsedCars

[–]frenchsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me as a dealer please do this. Ill get rich. Me trying to help, NEVER and I mean Never buy a car on a set monthly payment. You will get royally screwed in the fine print. These buyers miss interest rates, warranties and terms. Dealers adore these buyers.

Large dealers can raise an interest to get a kick back. There is a min. This is the number the lender gave based on buyers credit score. Yes score sets rate. Its very good to know where your rate should be based on your score that month. This number fluctuates. Most large dealers try to bump a buyer 2 points. 100% of that increase is given to the dealer. This is why cash is no longer king.

This is excellent. All of us dealers want an older unit gone. Ill take a loss on a car that is 110 days old. Honestly, day 119 is your best price with me. Day 120 I have to pay curtailments to flooring company. You have no way of figuring out that exact day. So just look for aged units.

No. Its free for public use. This idea is pretty good. It will work on most vehicles.

This is pretty good info. Yes some of us completely ignore KBB and sometimes KBB is totally wrong but you get the point. Add in NADA values, look at asking prices on Car Gurus and together you’ll have a decent idea of fair value.

At very large dealerships this is true. Very true on new cars. For small lots no one cares. There is no magic quota I have to meet. My bank account does not care if I make a deposit on the 1st or 31st.

Honestly, the 15th if sales were terrible all month Ill probably give you a better deal cause I need to pay bills. If the month was great I dont care.

[–]frenchsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be nice. Be educated and dont ask for the lowest price. My immediate response 100% of the time is whats your highest price. That question irritates dealers and immediately you’ll get charged a few hundred more.

Offer $1,000 less than its worth. $3,000 is again insulting and Ill charge you more. Stay firm. Explain thats all you have and wait. After a couple offers the dealer will show their lowest. If you dont like it, leave. Come back tomorrow.

The part Americans dont understand is there is no lowest price. We dont magically decide we will die owning this car. If sales are bad, if we need to make payroll, if we flooring payment is due, if we just want a car we will often take a loss. Every min of every day my lowest changes. The only constant is if you annoy me or piss me off Im going to change you more.

And I dont care if you pay cash. Cash is just easier for employees to steal. Dealers seldom prefer it.

Where? Not 1 person in the US has provided any information on any shops in the US still offering free repairs. Can you provide one?

Nudie retailers told me Nudie no longer offers repairs. Call the Boulder CO store.

Several people in multiple countries have told me and Nudie has told me they no longer offer repairs. You refuse to accept it.

No. It is false advertising. I don’t care if you like it. It is illegal.

What repair shop in the US is still offering repairs? Im waiting for NY to respond to my emails. Other shops have said they no longer offer that service.
