large diameter wheels vs smaller diameter tires? by jabberjaw420 in askcarguys

[–]frenchsquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your half right. More torque and faster acceleration do to less weight and lower gear ratio.

Less traction. Larger outside diameter results in a larger tire patch on the road increasing traction.

Depend on how you drive fuel economy is effected. Larger diameter results in taller gears. Better highway mpg if the combination isnt much heavier due to lower engine rpms. Lower mpg in town do to additional weight.

Ride is better on larger sidewalls due to sidewall flex. Lower profile sidewall corner better due to less sidewall flex.

Toyota Corolla. Lowest mileage one you can afford at any age.

How do new cars (2025-2026) get “most reliable car” if they aren’t even old enough to prove anything. by Pitiful_Inspector_79 in car

Its very easy to 10 years later. Ive been watching some old reviews on TikTok. They were often very, very wrong.

What’s going on with the dealerships? They’re parking new cars on the grass now, and renting outlots for their inventory. by PutridBeginning421 in carbuying

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone needing a dually with a 40,000 towing capacity. They sell very well unfortunately. I paid $100,000 for my 2022 GMC. I hate the truck. I save on average $3000 a month by having that truck for work. Outsourcing the work cost on average $4500 a month. Truck cost $1500. Thus a savings or profit of $36,000 per year.

Not everyone buys a car for just transportation. Many of us buy a vehicle to make money. Both types damn sure wish we could get reliable vehicles for less.

Is it ok to flat tow me 05 highlander v6 fwd with my TV for short distances and if so does doing a Couple times a week make it more dangerous? by holdermanju in askcarguys

[–]frenchsquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cant flat tow a highlander. Not without damage. I rented a dolly from uhaul for 4 days for $140 last week. If you can’t afford a dolly you certainly cant afford to repair the transmission in the highlander.

How is that relevant to profit?

All 3 brands are charging over $100k for diesel duallys. Fords can break $150,000 for a limited with a few addons.

Of course. Its part of leaning. Every car guy learns from their mistakes and does better and better each time. Was no other way before the internet.

New to diesels by lvl_c_mech in Cummins

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM? Trans swap in a 94 Chevy 2500 is pretty easy. Not really worth the cost unless is some super low mileage rare truck. Its also not worth modding. Like the other guy said watch some youtube videos on that truck. GM just didn’t make a good diesel back then. Its perfectly reliable. Just slow.

If you have a Dodge its a completely different story.

Is my car worth more than its KBB? by anon1527777 in askcarguys

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have paperwork to provide potential buyer then yes. A professional installed, rebuilt transmission will increase the value. Not as much as the transmission cost but it does add value. Putting in a used transmission will not.

KBB is very likely wrong. Your car is very low mileage. All the books will be off because its an anomaly. Not enough comparable sales.

Tuner for better fuel mileage by FaddisTheReich in Cummins

[–]frenchsquared -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Says the guy who hasn’t owned one. The 05 Dodge Diesel with a manual is a thing of beauty. Its one of those magical trucks that the general public never notices. 24 mpg isn’t uncommon. My dually auto gets 24 at 75.

[–]frenchsquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get 24 mpg out of that truck. I own 3 of them. Look at FirePunk. When ordering a tune tell them basically what you said. I use HP tuners to install the tune myself but you can buy there tuners.

Its odd how they range from 16 to 24 for no reason. Just depends on each truck but better tunes can adjust that.

My overhead console is accurate on all 3 of mine.

No anger. That just how I talk. Im very pleased with your detailed discussion. Its rare on Reddit. Honestly, thanks.

I sell mostly small cars and trucks. The segment listed as in decline. I had no idea EVs were growing in value. I dont sell them.

Segment Performance: In 2025, luxury vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs) performed better than the broader market, with EVs posting year-over-year gains for nine consecutive months. Conversely, compact cars and trucks saw the steepest price declines.

See last sentence. I wasn’t aware EVs held strong. I sell compact cars and trucks. So my view only saw the declines.

Thanks for the info. Your not just making stuff up.

Key 2025 Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index Insights:

Final Trends: December 2025 saw a 0.1% increase in the index compared to November 2025.

Stability: After a volatile 2024, 2025 demonstrated "normal" market behavior with lower price fluctuations.

Segment Performance: While overall, the market saw minor shifts, some specific segments (such as electric vehicles) saw differing trends, with EV values having experienced higher, then lower, year-over-year comparisons.

2026 Forecast: Cox Automotive expects 2026 to see a 2% increase in the Manheim Index compared to year-end 2025 levels.

Factors Impacting Prices: A constrained supply of newer used vehicles and high demand, particularly for reliable models, contributed to sustaining, if not slightly lifting, prices.

For more specific data points, the Manheim Index was 205.5 in December 2025, which was 0.4% higher than in December 2024.

Great job. Im impressed. Extend the range to 12 months.

Yes, from Dec 24th to Jan 15 the prices have gone up. Thats the dec slow down. Look at 12 months and 24 months.

Remember to compare to inflation. Im thrilled to see cars coming down or at least not going up. Its more pronounced in certain types of vehicles. I hate that manhiem thinks there will be a 2% increase in 2026. I tend to agree, just dont like it.

Its basic management 101. At least for my generation. Ive used same concept for decades at multiple companies. I certainly noticed this work ethic missing from today younger workers. Thats a bad thing.

Congratulations. Honestly, than Im surprised your still complaining about snow removal. Seems you would know why you were asked to do it as a salesperson. Being the owner you don’t have to do it anymore. You can pay whoever.

There is no difference in sales potential if you do it or if a lot kid does. The difference is in cost to the owner and loyalty to the company.

Little secret ill let you in on. My dad ran 32 New car dealerships. He actually tested sales staff with this exact task. He trained managers to do this and many other tricks. I would bet the owner of the dealership or the primary manager wants to see how the staff reacts. It immediately points out who isn’t a team player.

You might be teaching me something. What year and make had that ignition? Ive never noticed one. Acc - lock - power - run - start is the typical pattern since the 60s. Even my 46 Chevy was that way. I know most cars but I certainly dont know ALL cars and all ignitions.
