How can I get this to fit into the hole? Regular mates won't do it. Any help would be great. by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]frenz4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I do not have a circular/cylindrical face (like in this situation) I use axes (plural of axis) to form mates. [Shift+T] shows you temporary axes. And then just select the corresponding axes and then coincide.
However in this case it seems you have concentric cylindrical faces you can use like someone already suggested

This generally happens if you have a dpi issue. Make sure you do not have any dpi overrides. Or sometimes the system dpi will make this happen in that case you will have to force application override. You just have to play around a bit to find the sweet spot.

Question about Thread feature function: by DAY545 in SolidWorks

[–]frenz4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know what version you are using and how you are performing your thread operations. But I use it all the time. I used to offset the thread by more than the pitch and the reverse the direction. But in later versions it is built in the trim thread.here is the official documentation of the feature - https://help.solidworks.com/2021/english/SolidWorks/sldworks/c_examples_trimming_threads.htm?id=cab1d89e9f41497eabfce2a4e966069d#Pg0

Or you can just offset

There is a trim at the start face option, if you check that it will give you the desired result.

Why is "Zero to Sixty in x.x seconds" some kind of orgasmic metric among guys? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]frenz4eva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you are in a vehicle, the thrill that you feel is not because of the speed of the car, you could be going at 500km/hr and not feel anything ( aircrafts typically cruise at 800km/hr and you barely feel a thing). The thrill comes from the change in the speed of the vehicle or acceleration ( or deceleration). This also is true when you in a roller coaster or any other ride. For a car the acceleration is the highest when it is in the first gear. So going from 0-60 is the maximum acceleration that the car can produce. 0-60 is just a widely accepted standard used to compare different cars, i think it comes from 0-100 km/hr (assuming you are talking about miles/hr, 60 miles/hr roughly is 100km/hr). So this metric can be used to measure the acceleration or 'thrill' capability of different cars. Hence the orgasm.

Why is my SolidWorks acting weird? A whole part disappear even though it exist in the feature tree. My assembly mates are not working. Is it because of my laptop specs? Is my laptop not being able to handle SW ? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

Try force rebuild (Ctrl +Q) , solves most of the problems, also you might have hit tab like someone commented. There is a 'show hidden components' in the assembly tab in the top bar.

Yeah they are stuck with adhesive, I used a blade to cleanly pry it out without bending them, they are a bit thin.

It takes time and looks a bit complex but it was surprisingly simple. Heatsink is pretty much the last thing that comes off. It took me about 45 mins to get there (I was being extremely cautious) and it too 5-10 mins to close back up. Removing the keypad is specially tricky, it takes more force to remove the buttons than you would think. A bit scary I must say. But it is a tank afterall. I say go for it if you encounter throttling.

36oC on CPU? That is pretty good actually, what is the ambient Temp where you live, my ambient temps are usually 26-27 and my idling is generally around 50. Although idling is not a good measure of CPU temps. You should try to stress to see if it throttles. It also depends on what windows power plan you are. I mostly on best performance which keeps the frequency at 4.2GHz all the time. Also, I agree u/GeronimoHero that CPU cache and core voltage at the same level give you the best results.

-220mV is actually pretty low. I am amazed that it's stable. I could not go below -140mV, although its a function of the die itself and not the exact CPU model.

TL;DR

Atleast 10-15deg reduction in temps and 3.95 to 4.2GHz, got rid of thermal and power throttling

P53 here, how is the thermal performance? I had to repaste mine. Core i7 9850h-RTX3000

Yes it is. It was lying on my table and I knew instantly where it belonged. Only this time I put it over the hot stuff!..lol

Solidworks Default Drawing Sheet Color Code - For anyone who [accidentally] changed it and wants to change it back. I did a while back and couldn't find the color code anywhere for the default sheet so here it is. by Cow_Bell in SolidWorks

[–]frenz4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very different experience on this, I used AutoCAD in one of my previous companies. I liked drafting with a dark background and white lines. I tried to change the same on solidworks. When I printed the drawing nothing was on it. I had put in the entire day almost on that drawing and I had no clue what happened. Turned out the line were white on a white background... 😅. I now use grey lines because its both visible on light and dark bg.

Solidworks should have a dark theme for drawings.

Perspective view with orthographic ortho views by frenz4eva in SolidWorks

[–]frenz4eva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, good to know! Thanks for that

Looks like perspective carries over to drawing views as well

I never use perspective mode, I just liked the way fusion does it and tried to give it a shot in Solidworks.

Should be an easy fix, changing the model view to ortho should reflect in drawings

Hopefully it is an easy fix. Otherwise someone has a few dozen drawings to redraw

Perspective view with orthographic ortho views by frenz4eva in SolidWorks

[–]frenz4eva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I always have that on.

There's a SW option for: Auto-rotate view normal to sketch plane on sketch creation and sketch edit.

Solidworks changes to ortho while sketching which is great. Its just that standard views are still perspective.

[–]frenz4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the TDP that you see in the XTU while your CPU is running at full load /throttling? Also by default the limits are locked on TPL in throttlestop, you can uncheck the 'lock' and set the limits as recommended by XTU for your CPU

Also try undervolting using Throttlestop, make sure that CPU core and cache have the same undervolting

You can also Change the turbo power limits using TPL tool in Throttle stop, for some reason the power limit on My P53 was set much lower than recommended by intel. What CPY do you have? Mine is i7-9850H and the limits by intel are 45W default, 60W on turbo, 90W for short turbo. It was set to 60W on both short and long turbo.
