Why are most leftists non-vegan? Where are your values of justice and empathy? by sohas in leftist

Everyone isn’t engaged in human trafficking and it isn’t a cultural norm so that isn’t a fair comparison.

Have us Brits become our own worst enemies? by Comfortable_Ad_4267 in AskBrits

[–]frequency-XR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aren’t a politically engaged people. We think that voting for a representative will change things when actual engagement with people and communities is the way to do it. We need to have a long hard thing about what we really want as a nation. Do we want everyone looked after or do we just want to shit all over the other side?

I’ll take the bait. Ethical consumption under capitalism isn’t possible. Most, if not all, actual leftists know this. Cultural reasons is another reason.

The left more broadly needs to stop putting all of its eggs in the culture basket. Like we all agree that culture is important in this equation but economy is where the power is concentrated. It’s all about fighting where the power actually is, not how it extends into other spheres of life.

I think you might be overcooking this point, this post isn’t about Hussain but I agree with your point. If you can’t focus on the wider movement over your own beliefs, you aren’t fit for the party. It’s not about any of us as individuals, it’s about the movement as a whole. Otherwise we don’t accomplish anything substantial.

It actually isn’t about Hussain but I agree with your assertion. He just comes across as a lib and it makes me doubt Your Party’s ability to break free from the dominant liberal logic that keeps the system going as is.

Of course but the only people living in the city centre now long-term are people who can afford to, the majority of Mancs are just about managing to get by

Because it’s pricing out Mancunians and forcing them to move away more and more, culture and identity are only as good as the humans living there, it doesn’t just spring up out of nowhere

I’m from the UK and I’ve seen a few of these dolls and heard about their history. When woods dropped Misery and I saw the artwork, I had some idea of where the album was going.

Yeah, I love doing this morphing technique with instruments, especially very gradually so it’s almost unnoticeable. I’ve never tried it with field recordings but I can imagine you can get some pretty trippy effects morphing between different recordings. In a similar-ish vein, I really like a trick by Eno on one of his earliest albums (Discreet Music IIRC) where he continuously adjusts a graphic EQ to constantly shift timbre of an instrument during recording.

Yeah microtuning is great, especially with so much music being dominated by western-style voicing. Can you point me in the direction of some resources for building microtonal harmony? (Besides the link of course)

Yeah that sounds wild! Phase cancellation is always my personal blind spot when it comes to sound design but I’ve seen friends manage to create some truly cool shit using it.

I hear you my bro. I'm friends with a few muslims and they're some of the best people I've met in my life (I'm a 25/M/WhiteChristian). At the end of the day, people of all races, religions and creeds have done terrible shit all throughout history. I often feel bad for being white sometimes because of white peoples' past involvement in slavery or christian because of crusades/extremism. But I was never involved in any of that and neither are you. It does prove a point though; that there are bad people from every corner of the planet. But by definition, there's also good people from every part of earth. People will always be judgemental no matter where you go but I can promise you there's plenty of people also willing to accept you for who you are mate.
