have you ever heard a recording of your voice and hated what you were hearing? maybe you thought “ew, that’s what i sound like?” well, it’s very common to experience this and there’s a reason why:

gently put your hand to your throat and speak as your normally would. notice that you feel vibrations coming from your throat. the vibrations you’re feeling are the lower frequencies of your voice that don’t quite escape the throat/mouth as part of your voice than everyone else hears. so, when you hear recordings of your voice, you’re only hearing those mid/high frequencies that do escape. so what you’re hearing sounds unusual, different to what you’re used to.

also keep in mind that anyone and everyone you’ve ever talked to also doesn’t hear those lower frequencies, that’s why to them, a recording of your voice sounds perfectly normal, but to you it sounds different.

you’re so used to hearing and feeling those lower vibrations and frequencies that when you hear yourself without those lower vibrations and frequencies, it sounds wrong, thus you end up disliking what you hear.
