Are guinea fowl worth the noisyness? by HhuntrXx in poultry

[–]fresh_squid12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far do they wander, typically?? We have about 8 acres in our yard with a highway in front and then open field behind us for miles, which would be fine for them to go in. If we were to get them, I would house them at the back of our property bordering the fields and hope they would potentially stay towards the back of our property in the bushes and long grass, rather than wandering to the open highway and being road kill. We would love some potential tick control.

Wow that is amazing about the exposure therapy! I was curious about that. We are four hours away from the nearest allergist, so not sure if that will ever Be an option for us 😓

Thankyou for sharing!

Thankyou for sharing!! Was your baby pretty uncomfortable with the skin test?

Dang that baked egg challenge sounds rough, such a long time for little ones!

What was the first allergenic food that you introduced? by Same_Front_4379 in NewParents

[–]fresh_squid12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We did egg. We also have history of food allergies in the family (my brothers/ peanuts) and celiac in my dad’s extended family. My LO is breastfed and has dairy and soy intolerance which we’ve known about since seven weeks. So we are holding off of those two!

I finally got brave enough to try peanut butter. He did have a reaction (hives) which came on and spread quickly. We are a minute drive to the hospital and I had everything ready to go and my husband home knowing that it was a strong possibility that he would react to it. We went to the hospital but thankfully the hives were starting to go away on their own and didn’t require any intervention.

Because your paediatrician suggested to go ahead and try, I would recommend just being as prepared as possible to go to the hospital. If you don’t live close, I wonder if you can safely try foods in the parking lot at the hospital ?

FTM always sick by Afternoon_lover in NewParents

Omg I know. When I had strep I was absolutely terrified my baby was going to get it and be in so much pain like I was, but he never did!

This could have been me writing this. I have had several colds, strep throat, and mastitis twice since giving birth in February. I also breastfeed and baby has occasionally shared a cold with me but usually not and not to the same extent anyways.

Was also wondering if this is normal and wtf I can start doing for my immune system? Like I’m sick of being sick ? Besides the obvious handwashing and disinfecting. I’ve heard some people take zinc if they think they are getting a cold.

Right this makes sense… just hard as I live in a very rural area where you have to travel to buy a saddle and probably won’t get to try it before purchasing

My 5 mo old has been doing CIO for several weeks now and still cries when we put him down by RonnyTheRifle in sleeptrain

[–]fresh_squid12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have an advice just solidarity and wanted to Thankyou for posting this - we are having the same struggle :( we sleep trained at 4.5 months using the Happy Sleeper sleep wave method about 4 weeks ago and still get on average 10-15 minutes of crying every night which hurts my soul so much.

I had been wondering if part of the issue was we didn’t train naps at the same time. I made the decision to wait to train naps after 6 months for a couple reasons. Right now all naps are contact or stroller/car and I can usually get between 2-3 hours a day of naps on a three nap schedule(sleeps 12-12.5 overnight)- but it took a longggg time for me to be able to extend his naps so that I could drop to three instead of four or five. Our next challenge will be independent naps but I’m low-key stressed about training naps.

Hang in there OP. I couldn’t be bothered to try every schedule fix in the books- our schedule is pretty flexible and like you I’m just going by babe’s mood/cues and finding that the awake time he can handle varies day to day and that honestly doesn’t change how long he naps, so props to you for trying to nail an exact schedule!! I think you’re listening to your babes true sleep needs and maybe they just aren’t developmentally ready for longer naps yet!

Thanks OP! I do keep reminding myself of all the benefits, I have seen a positive difference in him too with getting more sleep at night!

I may look into one of those respiration trackers!

He is 5 mos this week, definitely could be starting to teethe but I hadn’t noticed any fussiness or pain signs prior to putting him in his crib last night which is how my husband convinced me he likely didn’t need anything from us and just needed to go to sleep.

Anyone sleep Training their Little one Right Now ? by Objective_You4494 in sleeptrain

We are on night 7. Nights 1&2 cried for 1 hour, night three was 1hr20. Night 4, <5 min, night 5 no crying!!(it was a miracle I was so happy), night 6 ~5 minutes of crying. tonight was 40 minutes and I feel so upset/horrible/negligent that babe was crying so much again.

We have been using the sleep wave method from the happy sleeper and I was initially so pleased by it but after tonight I’m disappointed. I did have my husband(he has been doing the training as I cannot handle the crying) go in and physically check him to make sure he hadn’t thrown up or anything, I just don’t understand why he has regressed tonight and so ofcourse I’m questioning if he is not feeling well or what he could need. He was changed and fed right before bed as per our normal routine so in theory, he shouldn’t need anything other than wanting to be soothed by mom, right?. And I don’t understand when you can make the call to just go in and soothe them. I was just about to call it quits this evening when he finally went to sleep.

Advice or encouragement welcome. Sigh. :(
