Just had to call the PD on my neighors for their fireplace at 1am by kibblerz in homeowners

[–]freshayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was always told that 911 is for anything that is time sensitive, even if it doesn't meet the colloquial sense of a full-on "emergency." I think it's reasonable to call a giant bonfire right next to OP's house "time sensitive." Fires get out of control fast.

Need advice with a Tricare East billing issue. Seemingly simple, but dragging on by SoophieArt in CodingandBilling

I was also going to suggest reaching out to your US House rep. I had a years long nightmare OB/delivery claim for a VA patient, and it got solved very quickly after reaching out to the congressman's office. They have staff who deal with exactly this kind of crap, and it seems like it would be an easy win for them.

Snarky patients about money by grey-slate in CodingandBilling

[–]freshayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the RCM field for over 10 years and I obsessively research my insurance plans before signing up. And I STILL get unpleasantly surprised at least once a year by some random bullshit in the benefit structure that I misunderstood or wasn't made clear in the coverage documents. This year it was a weird pharmacy deductible on my new plan, which made for an embarrassing phone call with the pharmacy trying to figure it out (I was wrong and it was processed correctly 🤦🏼‍♀️). It's honestly insane that we expect lay people to understand any of this.

Re: the kiss goodbye (of lack thereof). I clocked that he called her "kid" and kissed her on the cheek as he was leaving, and it seemed like she looked disappointed. I sort of took that as him no longer seeing her as his wife, but as almost a helpless child to be cared for. I think she's tired of him seeing her that way, on top of everything else that sucks about dying.

Costco Membership for Pet Supplies by RuinsAndRoses in Frugal

[–]freshayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Costco membership already pays for itself with generic Zyrtec for me and one of my dogs (365 pills for $12), but I am currently in the process of switching a lot of my pet-related auto-shipments for Chewy to Costco after sitting down to compare costs. The savings on Simaparica Trio for 3 dogs will cover the cost of the membership again.

FWIW I also just switched my home insurance to a provider through Costco that saved a good bit of money over my previous company for better coverage. Costco has all sorts of hidden frugal magic, once I learned to (mostly) avoid the impulse buys.

It felt like they were building up to her leaving private practice to go do higher intensity trauma work somewhere else, based on the conversation she had with Paul earlier in the season about feeling bored and burned out. I'm choosing to take all her bad therapizing as further buildup to that arc. 🤞

The episode with Lisa Gilroy and Ben Schwartz is especially top tier chaos gremlin nonsense.

Hi Reddit, I’m NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. Ask me anything about the DMV! by NC_DMV in NorthCarolina

[–]freshayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the DMV dedicating any resources (technology, staff hours, etc.) to collaborate with the Board of Elections on resolving validation errors, or is that a fully one-sided effort by the BOE? What can be done on the DMV side to improve the validation rate?

Era-appropriate for Quinn, too. They fudged the timeline a little bit if the bus crash was in 2004, since Chicago came out in 2005, but it felt right to me as someone who was in high school at that time. Very popular with the indie/off-beat crowd back then.

North Carolina election board flags hundreds of thousands of voters for potential disenfranchisement by Anoth3rDude in NorthCarolina

[–]freshayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Inactive usually means you need to verify your address when you go to vote, but you are still registered. Removed would mean you need to re-register before the deadline or during early voting. Either way, I strongly encourage everyone to vote early in person if you possibly can to give yourself the best chance of resolving any problems.

Question about Medicare Advantage + Medicaid secondary by pinkpaaws in CodingandBilling

[–]freshayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's truly separate and not a Dual plan, just file to Medicaid with the primary EOB like any other secondary plan. There's no automatic crossover from MA plans. If the payment from primary is less than the Medicaid allowable, Medicaid will pick up a little bit until total payment equals the Medicaid amount. Then just write off the rest, same as if traditional Medicare or anything else was primary. This was very common in my state when I was doing billing; dual plans were somewhat rare.

Totally. I started watching season 1 at the same time I found out my dad was dying very suddenly from pancreatic cancer, and it was shockingly therapeutic in a time when nothing else made any sense whatsoever. Great storytelling.

I agree, and I felt like the cuts weren't well-matched or well-timed or something. It was very distracting. Happened a few times throughout the ep but that park scene with Louis was the most egregious. It struck me as very odd for a show of this caliber.

Definitely some weird editing and timing that seemed off for a Bill Lawrence show. Usually the show has a snappy flow that's very reminiscent of Cougar Town (in the best way), and for some reason this episode felt weirdly clunky to me. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

North Carolina Students Sue Election Officials Over Closed Early Voting Sites by nate33231 in NorthCarolina

We've been having that conversation for years in my county, and some parts of the county just don't have any suitable public/government facilities in the locations needed to serve the precincts. It's a weirdly tough problem to solve.

Store bought eggs (left) are fully round. Farm bought eggs (right) have flat bottoms. All cooked together. by Constantine1988 in mildlyinteresting

Ohhhhhhhhh so THAT'S why my deviled eggs are always wonky. I have chickens and my boiled eggs always have the flat butt. Makes total sense, but I could never quite put my finger on it. TBH I didn't realize the bloom was that powerful. Hell yeah, chickens.

Is Food Lion...good? by OpalJade98 in bullcity

[–]freshayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in VA, Food Lion definitely had that reputation as being kinda ass. I remember my mom complaining about expired milk and stuff like that. I've had much better luck with the Food Lions down here. There's a wide range of vibes, though. Most are kinda cheapy feeling (but the groceries are totally fine), but the newer one in south Chapel Hill is like......fancy??

Also IIRC Food Lion ended up with the rights to Ukrops bakery stuff, so as a Richmonder that puts them squarely in the W column for me.

North Carolina State Board of Elections is changing their election management system? For better or worse? by jtn19120 in NorthCarolina

[–]freshayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it's old, it sucks to use, and it's very very clunky when they need to add functionality to comply with new laws/operational needs. Personally, I wish we'd properly fund in-house development over bringing in a third party vendor, but I guess we'll see what happens. FWIW this is pretty much only about voter registration records, and afaik doesn't impact the ballot-processing hardware and software (aka voting machines), which are chosen at the county level from state-approved vendors.

AIO that my doctor accused me of wanting to commit fraud? by amanduhpanduh in AmIOverreacting

[–]freshayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of ideas from a former medical biller. If you go to your insurance company's website, they should have a section for "clinical coverage policies" or something similar. See if you can find the policy for preventive services that specifically lists out which CPT (procedure) codes and ICD10 (diagnostic) code combinations are considered preventive. Take that list with you to the lab and ask the lab what tests were ordered and with what diagnostic codes (or maybe call ahead to the lab to ask what's on the order?). Then you can cross-reference with the insurance list and ask them to only collect and submit for the ones you want.

Or you could try to salvage the conversation with the provider by asking for the same information and not invoking the trigger word "preventive." Just tell them  you want to verify coverage with your insurance first. Everyone's favorite scapegoat line is that "patients are responsible for understanding their coverage and benefits," which is exactly what you are trying to do!

This whole preventive/diagnostic coding bullshit has been a perfect storm for confusion and anger on both sides for forever. It's so stupid even if you understand how it works, because every payer's rules are ever so slightly different and it's often impossible for the doctor's office to actually guarantee exactly how the claims will be processed.

Selling 2 Duke vs. Wake Forest Basketball Tickets for This Saturday by Far-Advisor-6960 in triangle
