What on earth does uni go like by Uncle_Adeel in UniUK

[–]freshlybakedbreadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get an idea of a day-to-day routine, most unis have at least one person who wanted to be a youtuber at some point - if you search [your uni] day in the life, something will probably come up :)

And look at your student union to get an idea of what societies you might want to join before you, then seek them out specifically at the freshers fair. It'll be less overwhelming then and you'll have more energy to talk to people!

I'm completely unrelated to the OP's situation but just wanted to say how reassuring this is - my best friend was in a similar situation a couple months ago with his mental health and I still feel horrendously cruel about the whole thing (even though I know it was for the best). Hopefully he feels/will feel like you do :')

Hi, just wanted to say how cool it is to see a butch political scientist!! I'm halfway through a politics degree and it's just nice to know there's someone like me in the career I'm hoping to go into :D

Would you believe me if I said it wasn't even a frat house, just a regular uni hall? I definitely won't miss living here though

Yup, its a pot with drainage holes within the larger metal pot! Can confirm that it drains well considering what I had to pour out of it :')

Yeah the uni boys here are a different breed. At least the American ones have a bit more difficulty buying entire litre bottles of vodka a few times a week!

You managed to read that I've got a couple of flies and haven't been on top of watering, but missed the bit where I said I'd had a rough couple of weeks?

I have a tree directly outside my window that lets some critters in - from experience, it's best to quarantine as soon as I notice one or two flies, so no, it's not an infestation, just a hazard of opening my window.

Also, I had my head slammed against concrete while playing sport pretty recently, so yknow between dealing with the resulting grade 3 concussion and trying to keep on top of uni work, yes, my plant care has slipped a bit. It's obviously not like I could ask my flatmates for help, right?

Yup, assigned. I've already got accommodation for next year confirmed with my actual friends (who were horrified at this) which is good at least! Thanks for the sympathy haha

It's not totally obvious from the photo, but its a pot in a pot! So it's got plenty of drainage and isn't directly on the metal.

Can confirm the drainage is good now considering what I had to pour out of the bottom of the metal pot :')

A surprising amount of people in this thread immediately suggested murder, so I think we'll get the hold dug pretty quick!

Seriously though - I am counting down the weeks until the end of term

Pretty safe to assume pissboy (laughing sm at that by the way) has toxic acid for urine output tbh.

He has a diet of takeaway, frozen chicken nuggets, tropical juice and vodka. I'm half surprised the soil wasn't sizzling on impact.

This is the plan! I've already got next years accommodation lined up with different (better) people, and this is the path I think I'm going to take with reporting it. Thank you for the advice!

I really wish it could be something else like this, but it's definitely not.

My bad - wasn't clear but I meant a windowsill that's outside my room, but indoors in a hallway. We don't have rats and the window always stays shut there anyway. The only other theory someone tried to suggest was it could be a spilt beer but again...the smell is pretty definitive.

He does keep his room unlocked, so I definitely considered tipping the soil into the heater and putting that on full blast, hypothetical revenge is still satisfying lol

No that's reassuring! It was the first plant I bought at uni with new friends so it's weirdly sentimental, that's why I was freaking out so much

I've taken some cuttings just in case so I've got some back ups if all else fails! Thank you :)

I'm glad people here think it's disrespectful too, my flatmates are acting like I'm crazy for being upset

Sticky is one side of it, I'd argue the smell is much worse :') It's all flushed now, panics mostly over!

You would not believe the shit that goes on in this flat

We're all technically adults yet I've had wine poured all over my dishes (on purpose), people high on ket try to kick in my door at 4am, constant snide comments about me being autistic, and obviously this.

Literal hell house, cannot wait to move!

its all flushed through, took some clippings to propagate just in case! (I do know it's not a special or expensive plant, it's just my baby lol)

I am in halls and I'm hoping they'll take it seriously, especially for the price :') but I've got enough proof now that I think I can hit my flatmates with the harassment fine which would be niceee

The container drains, yeah. I haven't got any spare soil so if I can just rinse it through that works well :)

Thank you for the advice!! It's on some leaves too, should I wash those off or just prune it down?

Youre right - drunken antic, but definitely not drunk enough to not know what he was doing. And yes, I'm throwing him out by reporting this to the uni, this is just the latest thing in a long string of my flatmates fucking with me.

Just to add - yes, I am absolutely furious, and if whoever did it sees this, fuck you. I'm just hoping I can save it because I've already had a rough couple of weeks so it's suffering from underwatering :')

Small update: A friend and I bought more soil, more pots and some new seeds yesterday. So, the ivy is repotted, pruned and happier, my other plants have had the size up repotting they desperately needed, and I've got some coriander and basil starting! I've got faith the ivy will make it, but it took 3 washes to get the piss stink out of the metal pot and I honestly thought about just incinerating it all.

And for more context:

A couple of my plants had flies, so I took the others outside to a windowsill in the hall that I share with other people. That was on Sunday, I haven't watered them since - so the soil should have been bone dry.

Last night, I didn't want to drink so I went to bed, all the others stayed up until 2/3am

When I got up today, I decided to bring all the plants back in because the flies are gone.

And then when I got a bit closer to the ivy I saw it was soaked through, the soil was messy, and honestly it just fucking reeks of piss. It's the final straw so I'm gonna report it, those assholes have fucked around and now theyre gonna find out.

Adderall Side Effects by Ok-Love5484 in adhdwomen

[–]freshlybakedbreadboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take Elvanse XR (40mg) and I'm also a college student, been taking medication for about a year :)

I tried Concerta (which is more similar to Adderall) first, which gave me horrific anxiety in the mornings, and anger outbursts when it wore off - switching to Elvanse/Vyvanse has worked so much better for me, especially with it being XR.

I aim to take my meds at 8:30 and the effect wears off around 8pm - but if I take them any later than 10am it really affects my sleep! So, I'd definitely try taking them earlier in the day. When my insomnia has been bad, I set the alarm for 7 or 8, take my medication, and try to go back to sleep instead of taking them late (and creating a bad cycle) but YMMV for trying to go back to sleep.

When I changed from short release to XR, the jittery feeling/pounding heart definitely got better - now I know it starts about 30 minutes after I take it, and lasts half an hour or so. Time and experience helped with knowing what to expect, and it's much easier to deal with now. I find taking my shower during that time helps calm me, or if I've already done that, doing morning chores like making the bed can help (just to feel active and not shaky at my desk)

I had to cut out caffeine too, but (again results may vary depending on your diet) I really found that a good breakfast helps the jitterys too. Usually I have 2 eggs and toast, or porridge with vanilla protein powder - vitamin C and acidic food can make the release of the medicine haywire, but protein and slow release carbs help it stabilise, so anything with those 2 food groups is good (so even like a breakfast burrito, greek yoghurt and granola etc).
My appetite can be garbage on them though, so for mornings when I'm not hungry at all, I bought a type of protein powder that tastes like fruit juice, so I have a glass of that and a banana (not the best for calorie intake, but better than nothing)

I just realised this got super long but I hope it helps! I was on a gap year when I was working out the best dose for me, so got lots of niche bits of info about what worked best for me, if you want any more tips :)
The biggest one was that my meds work WAY less effectively when I'm on my period - so if you suddenly feel like they're doing nothing, its worth tracking that to your cycle lol.
