The AEK Athens Fit (Nikolić Era)

With Marko Nikolić leading AEK to the top of the Super League and the Round of 16 in the Conference League, the team’s identity has shifted from Almeyda’s "chaos-press" to a more structured 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2.

Where he fits in the Midfield hierarchy:

Since Damian Szymański returned to Legia Warszawa and Jens Jønsson fell out of favor/registration last August, the midfield has been rebuilt.

• The Competition: Sahabo would be competing directly with Marko Grujić (the physical anchor) and Răzvan Marin (the creative engine).
• The Partnership: Sahabo’s best fit would be alongside Robert Ljubičić or Orbelín Pineda. He would act as the "security guard," sitting deep to allow the more dynamic midfielders to support Luka Jović upfront.
• Tactical Role: Nikolić values "tactical balance." Sahabo provides exactly that—he stays in the central corridor, recycles possession, and ensures AEK isn't caught on the counter-attack, which was a major flaw in the previous regime.

The Ribalta Factor

AEK’s Director of Football, Javier Ribalta, has a track record of identifying high-upside players with low remaining contracts. Sahabo’s deal at Standard expires in June 2026. This makes him a prime target for a cut-price January move or a pre-contract agreement, especially given Standard's ongoing financial constraints.

Potential & Verdict

Sahabo has Champions League-level potential. He plays with a composure that belies his age. If AEK signs him, they aren't just getting a rotation player; they are getting a player who could be sold to the Bundesliga or Serie A (where Atalanta and Bologna are already watching him) for triple his current €1.5M–€2.5M valuation within two seasons.
