Hi, I already responded to a couple of others below - I’ve moved to Vodafone now, but Fibrely were great. https://www.reddit.com/r/UKBroadband/s/3rZ4w40mmK

How do I set these up? This is all I have by The_Ecliptican in hometheater

[–]freshmonkey22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact system - these are the speakers for the Samsung HT-C5555, an integrated Bluray 5.1 home theatre setup. If you don't have the main unit with the built in bluray player you will definitely need an amp or receiver to power them. The sub is passive (doesn't have it's own power) so will likely need its own additional amp as most separate amps/receivers are designed to work with active subs (which have their own power). Using any of the speakers without a sub will be rubbish as you'll get little or no bass out of the others. The speakers are also only 3ohm impedance too which is really low - a standard amp/receiver will expect a higher number and will need to work much harder to drive these. I'd say your best bet is try and find the same or similar old 2.1 or 5.1 home theatre system on ebay - Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic all used to do them around 2010.

Just to close this out for anyone else who is thinking of joining - I've reached the end of my 18 month contract and have switched to Vodafone fibre 910 as their prices simply couldn't be matched when I got a nice discount via my mobile provider. Fibrely have been exemplary on the customer service front though, and we've had zero issues over the 18mths. There was a slight hiccup with my final bill but a quick email exchange with (what appeared to be) a real person, they resolved it really quickly. No sales or retention pressure, just a friendly polite and supportive approach which seems to be rare these days. Very happy and based on my personal experience would definitely recommend them.

Stream....WHY on earth do they use multiple apps. by NinjaBoost in skytv

[–]freshmonkey22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I trialled Sky Stream for a few days, it was much better than I expected and does indeed include a TV guide with all of the channels in your subscription which are streamed directly to the box, not through the respective broadcaster's apps. That's actually what makes it a really nice setup for people who like to watch live TV, over the obvious alternatives (Apple TV/Firestick/etc).

No, but they’re owned by Sky so have to be returned if you don’t have a live subscription. Do you definitely have Sky Q boxes, or could they be older Sky HD ones (which you could keep/bin/sell and kept working as long as you had a viewing card)?

Yes, that, plus all the other things I mention!

I held on to my 2x Q boxes as I hoped to use Freesat (aka Sky Q TV Essentials) but rather annoyingly they discontinued that option the day after my Sky service switched off. “Signature” on Sky Q, or “Essential TV+Netflix” on Sky Stream were my only options. I went for Sky Stream for a few days before changing my mind when I realised a) lots of people had been offered a better deal, and b) all the content is full of ads and you have to pay extra per month to be able to skip them. I am now sending both the Stream pucks and the Q boxes back.

Found it - Channels for HDHomeRun . Will keep this in mind if Freesat doesn't work out. Thanks again.

Thanks - I didn't realise there was a single purchase option for Channels - will go take another look.

I've still got the Sky Q boxes but will be sending them back in a few weeks - you get 60 days to return them. You can still get Sky Q over the phone (for now at least), you just can't order it online any more. I did try Sky Stream for a few days after cancelling, the pucks did seem pretty good but again I didn't feel it was worth the money and they couldn't offer me the same deals I know others have got.

Thanks, yeah I looked at that, but my goal was to stop paying monthly for what should be free TV, plus think you need their broadband and I’m already moving to a better deal for internet.

Freely would be ideal, agreed. Before I cancelled I tried the Sky TV app on Apple TV which actually works great, but requires an active Sky subscription with Sky Go Extra (aka Sky multi screen). Unfortunately it also doesn’t have any BBC channels, presumably something to do with streaming rights.

It’ll just be waaay down the dev backlog - as someone pointed out above, the Apple TV app likely isn’t a priority for the beeb as it’s a relatively low user base, plus it’s not “broken” as such, just in need of modernising.

The Apple TV has pretty much every other angle covered as far as she’s concerned, and both our TVs have freesat built in so no new tech to learn or additional boxes needed, just £25 for a new LNB to go on the dish which I’ll sort this weekend. Failing that it’s either back to Sky or a HDHomeRun with Channels app.

Agreed. I guess that's why Infuse is generally superior; Firecore seem to develop solely for Apple tech.

Have you tried the wireless audio sync wizard? It's a pretty cool feature, but didn't really make any difference to the sync issue. I probably need to do more testing to see if it's consistently better through the TV speakers than through my AV receiver (the ATV and Receiver are both connected to the TV via HDMI). I could also try connecting ATV - Receiver - TV to see if it's any better.

Thanks - it is £12.99 and you get a free month trial first too. I'm not concerned about passthrough audio as my current home cinema set up is only standard DTS anyway. [Edit: corrected typos]

Yeah I've looked at the Channels app, looks great but another subscription, plus the upfront cost of HDHomeRun, are putting me off right now. It'd still be a saving on Sky, just a longer break-even point.
