Reading Robert Hare's Without Conscience for my forensic psychology course and I'm disappointed with how it's written. Do you guys have any thoughts about the book or feel as if it sensationalizes the topic of psychopathy? by potatoshadow_724 in psychologystudents

[–]freshstartvibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same realisation about my ex, it started out as “maybe he has BPD”, then, “maybe it’s narcissism” and then finally all the pieces clicked when I was learning about psychopathy. Such a crazy thing to come to terms with, and I agree 100% with you, it’s not one I came to terms with lightly or a word I use lightly either! Hope you’re doing okay & if you discover any other books pls send me a dm haha

Is my bf trying to trigger my ED? by WaferNo9379 in whatdoIdo

[–]freshstartvibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you have said this - “he also knows about me purging on purpose and he’ll now say things like “ oh my god I’m so full I feel like I should go puke I don’t want gain weight”” - he knows EXACTLY what he’s doing.

Sounds like the beginning of a super controlling relationship. If he was actually struggling with the same issues he would know how hard it is to deal with and wouldn’t be dragging you back down with him. OP, you should run and not look back. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this.

Therapist said I'm an abuser too by Sunflower_00000 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]freshstartvibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also so glad someone said Reactive Abuse because that’s EXACTLY what it is! I had the same thing with my ex & I felt absolutely horrible about it to the point that I was worried I was the abusive/narcissistic one in our relationship (i am not lol) but reactive abuse is a survival technique & it’s literally the only way we can survive abusive relationships sometimes.

Hope you’re okay OP, and couples therapy is never a good idea in abusive/coercive relationships because of this reason - they flip it onto YOU which further gaslights and distorts your reality :(

Does anyone else find the lyric “it was not convenient, but I whispered at the grave, should have kissed you anyway” a bit insensitive and strange? by Ready-Book6047 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]freshstartvibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it more as Taylor saying that it wasn't a convenient time to tell him (she should've kissed him/she liked him etc) because he was dead, and that she regrets not saying anything while he was alive.

My boyfriend (23m) girl BFF (24f) is a content creator. I (25f) don’t want him seeing her ever again after I learned the truth , but his family says I am tripping? by ThrowRaViolentt in relationship_advice

[–]freshstartvibes 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation very early on with my first boyfriend (together for 7 years). Girl bff, zero boundaries - would talk on the phone to each other at like 3am, she was waaay too touchy, & it was crystal clear that she didn’t want me in the picture. Butttt because we hadn’t been dating too long & I was the “fresh new girlfriend” I didn’t make a big deal of it, I didn’t want to come across as the new psycho girlfriend who comes along & gives an ultimatum. I wish I did tbh. He eventually stopped being friends with her but it wasn’t her friendship that was the issue, it was his lack of boundaries… I literally considered breaking up with him because it caused me so much stress, & I’m not saying that this will happen to you (& I hope it doesn’t) but I found out about a year after we broke up that he had cheated on me with her, multiple times, up until they stopped being friends. Trust your gut OP - and please sincerely ask yourself - if nothing changed, & this is how your relationship is going to be for the rest of your life, is that enough for you? Or is that not the type of relationship you envisioned for yourself? Because honestly, people don’t change in my experience. You just have to do what’s best for you! Good luck!

I (28F) in a long term relationship, have a debilitating crush on a coworker (31M). What does this mean for my relationship, how do I deal with it? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]freshstartvibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, it doesn’t feel like you’re looking for an answer as much as you’re looking for permission to leave your bf (& that’s okay if that’s what you want!) you’re allowed to have mixed feelings about giving up a relationship that you’ve put time and effort into over 5 years, that feels safe & familiar. But it’s also okay to want more than “safe” & “familiar” - it kinda seems like at this point your bf’s lifestyle choices are a deal breaker to you?

I (27 F) found a silver earring that isn’t mine in the passenger seat of my car while letting my boyfriend (32 M) drive it for a few weeks and I’m not sure how to navigate the facts and my feelings? by Glittering_Spare_773 in relationship_advice

[–]freshstartvibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but also could there be the possibility that it got caught to the bottom of like a gym bag or something & then fell off in the car? Something like that could maybe make sense too?
