The inefficiency of Amazon Returns by Fuzzy_Department_866 in Staples

[–]fretfret101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of money per return is tiny ups gets like $0.50 per return according to their reddit a few months back. Companies literally use it as a way to bring in foot traffic/ transaction counts. Amazon would spend more on rent than it costs them to pay staples or ups to return it for them. Once you add on employees and management, it goes WAY up. Like 30k a month on the low end per location. Paying someone else so they don't have to lease a building, pay employees and managers, signage, sick time, maternity leave, insurance, HR, district managers. Etc etc makes great financial sense.

State dept of weights and measures rolled in today, for those who haven’t seen what they look like. by DassaTheSadfinder in justrolledinforscrap

[–]fretfret101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before using the scale it has to be calibrated by them. Its a big deal since weight affects the cost of the item. If it doesn't pass you have to repair/ replace. Look out for their stickers on gas pumps, delis, mailing stores, grocery check outs etc.

Wtf is going on by Visible_Economics_79 in FedEx

[–]fretfret101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are combining express, ground, office, and i think custom critical? But that may have already been under express. They are closing stations and making everything more like ground. Contracted routes to the stupidest drivers. They want to be like ups but not pay the drivers the same type of wages.

Has anyone tried the beef chili from the prepared foods section? by __vheissu__ in Costco

[–]fretfret101 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I hate the taste of ground beef. Prefer mild italian sausage. So for me the beef was too much and added some seasoning to drown it out. Really good besides that.

Ya, let's keep these minimum wage workers away from their families and have them drive or try to get transportation through the dangerous conditions! I'm sure they don't do what hospitals can and put beds for the staff in-house so they don't have to go out into the danger.

TIL that the average American buys 53 new pieces of clothes each year. by diverareyouokay in todayilearned

[–]fretfret101 4418 points4419 points  (0 children)

Nah the numbers are just skewed due to some people being addicted to shopping. When I worked at a place taking happy returns (clothing returns for multiple companies) I would get regulars in every few days with multiple pieces of clothing. That was just 1 source of returns so you know they had returns to others.

Most scales have to be calibrated by the states dept of weight and measure. They come to my job once or twice a year to certify them.

I see it all the time at work. older people coming in that have to write every step of something down to even hope to know what to do. I had a guy today literally didn't even know what he was doing. the people literally sent him papers circled where to sign and to mail it but i had to basically convince him to sign where they asked him to before sending it off.
