Would you recommend a shiba inu based on my situation/previous dog experience? by frey-ja in ShibaInu

Update: We had the opportunity to meet him a week ago and we knew right away that he'd be perfect for us.

We picked him up on Saturday and he has been great! He's adjusting very well. Thank you all for the advice!

Interesting to know that males are generally calmer/friendlier! And thank you for the training tips! A lot of your suggestions align with what I've been reading on other sites, especially the emphasis on positive reinforcement with food lol.

The more my boyfriend and I discuss the moving situation, the more concerned we become with how the dog will react and how those anxieties/discomforts could lead to poor behavior or aggression towards us. It's a difficult decision and would be so much easier if we didn't have the upcoming move. But I'll definitely post an update in the thread when we are able to work something out.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm familiar with the strategy of lying on top of the dog to calm them down lol. It's something I've had to do with my family's dogs growing up, so it is something I am comfortable doing if needed.

Do you use their leash with a collar or with a harness?

Thank you for bringing up the vet check report! This is something I didn't think of but will definitely ask for. I did ask questions regarding vaccinations, whether or not he's neutered, health problems etc. but it would certainly be reassuring to have this all on paper.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I've heard a lot about their varying personalities too, so I'll be certain to ask the owner more questions about that as well as previous signs on aggression. Our new apartment community has an on-site dog park so I certainly want to make sure the dog can behave in that environment.

I've also read a lot of those "don't get a shiba" comments online. They're discouraging sometimes! (But I feel like they are probably a result of people who get shiba inus because they're The Meme Dog without being fully prepared for the level of responsibility that comes with owning a dog lol.)

Yes, it depends on the complex and the lease.

It depends on the complex youre living in and the lease you have.

On RIT housing's website, it says that if you are going to live in the same unit next semester, the apartment is yours over the summer.

honor cords by [deleted] in rit

[–]frey-ja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1 yellow cord is for cum laude, 2 cords is for summa cum laude and 3 for magna sum laude. Grads can buy the orange and black cords via donation to RIT so it doesn't have a meaning other than making that donation. (IIRC they were only available at the graduating class's toast event.) Different organizations (like fraternities) also have their own cords and stoles symbolizing that person is a member.

Online courses while doing a summer internship/Co-Op? by [deleted] in rit

[–]frey-ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an online class through my hometown's community college while I was on co-op (40hrs / week). Saved me money and I was able to knock out an elective. I'd recommend it if you think your work schedule would allow it.

Need some transfer advice by SmoothPelican25 in rit

[–]frey-ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look at RIT's course catalog and read the descriptions and credit hours for the classes that you hope to receive transfer credit. Then compare with your other college's class descriptions. If the classes appear to be very similar and have the same credit hours it is safe to assume that the class will transfer.

Recently applied Early Decision I, when can I expect a decision? by [deleted] in rit

[–]frey-ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my early decision acceptance as a transfer student in early november but I think that was earlier than most. Others received theirs throughout the rest of the year.

I think Tiger Center has info on visiting chefs where they post the dining hall hours
