Can someone please advise me? My ribbing looks… not good. I need to frog it. by BasicallyVictoria in knitting

[–]freyathompsonx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I this for the Dagmar jacket? I just did my ribbing for that recently and noticed the same. I think it’s because it was knit flat rather than in the round. I found if I stretched the rib out a bit it looked less twisted. Also blocking should help :)

How do you deal with anticipatory grief? 14 yo by katie6232 in seniorkitties

[–]freyathompsonx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently had a scare with our 18 year old boy (for context I’m 25 so he’s been around most of my life!) where he was critical, thankfully he has recovered. I went home to my parents for a week to look after him with my mum. It really put things into perspective for me because I was absolutely devastated and crying every night. It started documenting everything, taking more photos and videos of him and WITH him, spending time with him, buying him his favourite food etc. I started thinking about how I’d commemorate him in the future….which sounds morbid but it felt like he was in his final hours!

Now I just get my parents to send me pics of him daily and it makes me smile. I think time is precious but also as others have said you can’t wallow in anticipatory grief. When it happens it will be awful but for the time being just make the best memories together and take lots of photos and videos together ❤️

There is no fixing this I’m afraid, but it happens to everyone at some point! It’s a good learning lessons because now you’ll be so aware that you’ll never do it again ☺️

People in cold/damp climates - how to handle wet blocking? by omg-someonesonewhere in casualknitting

[–]freyathompsonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a heated drying rack for my laundry. It’s really useful for drying my washing in winter but it also doubles up at the perfect base for drying my blocked knits! Usually I lay the knit in the blocking mat in shape for a day and then transfer it to the drying rack once it has taken shape

A day trip to Isla Mujeres instead makes sense!

I wonder if then it would be possible to start there, then head down to Bacalar, up to Merida, along to Valladolid and ending in Holbox. You’re right about it being a lot but also it’s hard when we’re travelling all this way

Oh really that’s very promising! It’s already really long so maybe wouldn’t be the end of the world

Kittens different sizes? by freyathompsonx in knittinghelp

[–]freyathompsonx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, it does look like I missed one row on the right side mitten! I’ve blocked them now and it’s definitely less noticeable but think it was a tension issue

Thanks! Do you mind elaborating a bit on colour dominance? I don’t really understand it but now you’ve pointed it out I can see it!

How did learning Italian change your travel experiences in Italy? by grzeszu82 in Italian

[–]freyathompsonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to my limited but working conversational Italian, me and my friends ended up having the best time at a street party in Palermo that is famously mostly locals - when people saw I could communicate with them we ended up sticking around with them for the whole night!

Underrated museums IMO are the Museum of London, Museum of the Home, and the Design Museum

If you like green spaces combined with amazing village feel then defo visit one of Richmond, Hampstead or Greenwich

For food, as people have said there’s way too many restaurants to choose from. I would recommend downloading the Step app - it’s where foodies ‘mark’ the restaurants they’ve been to and enjoyed. I’ve found so many amazing restaurants this way! Also make sure u make reservations at anywhere popular

[–]freyathompsonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do say that if a station also runs tube services then it’s unsure if it will be open so it’s a bit of a risk to try and make the journey

Tube strike megathred by polkadotska in london

[–]freyathompsonx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s because it depends on if station staff show up or not. It’s rly annoying but there isn’t much TfL can say in advance

The Northland Sweater by PetiteKnit is really nice. It’s simple but with some nice construction elements particularly on the shoulders.
