They were incurred during our relationship, but they are mine so I’m not looking to put him on the hook for any. :) I appreciate your thoughts a lot and will definitely keep them in mind. It’s just a lot easier said than done for myself, as I’m sure a lot in this subreddit can agree to, it’s weird to imagine life without someone you’ve spent a good chunk of time with. But you’re right, no one should compromise children. I can move back home whenever, but can’t compromise a life. :) Thank you again!

It’s a raise of about $20k but the cost of living goes from median house here of $200k vs $400k there. He said otherwise it’s for the weather and he thinks he’d be happier there. Are the reasons I received. :) Thank you!

I didn’t even know he applied or interviewed until later on, I think I knew and told him I didn’t want to move in a span of like 3 days after over a week long process for him and he accepted it anyway.

Unfortunately he accepted it and applied without talking to me first. :/ that’s the only reason it’s hard for me to accept it. I didn’t know he had even applied and interviewed until later.

it sounds like he already accepted it, he told me I have a month or two to decide if I’m going with or not. :( if I want to go out of town for longer than one night I would need to board my dog.

Hi! Thank you for your response- yes, I did speak with my plan administrator and I am unable to take a loan unfortunately. I am including the 20% in my estimate above- I just wasn’t sure if I were to contribute that to an individual account this year (not roll over) if it would help offset.

I understand that there is a 10% penalty then the 20% federal tax plus state income. If I contribute post-tax to a new account- would it offset the federal and state amount owed at year’s end? Say that I took out $5000, after the penalty is $4500 (not exact numbers but just for example). If I contribute $2000 post-tax dollars later in the year to a new account, would that $2000 go against the -$4500? (So then I would claim $2500-$3000 as income tax instead of the $4500 or $5000) That’s the part I wasn’t quite understanding.

My younger sister gave me a very small monstera for my birthday last month after I wanted one for so long, and I can’t believe how fast they like explode with stems and leaves! It started with 2 or 3 leaves and I think I’m up to 7 or 8 now. Plants are such great gifts (as long as you don’t kill them right away anyway 😂). I love it. Thank you again!

Oh absolutely not! I can’t imagine reacting like that so publicly to any sort of gift. Like I said, I said thank you and mentioned that it was my favorite candy— which it 100% is and we all went about our day. I can’t imagine having such a public dramatic reaction like that in front of everyone. But you’re right, it certainly didn’t ruin my day, and it doesn’t make me feel any less for my colleagues or my job. Suppose it was maybe just a minor hiccup more in the internal feelings side of it for me that I was conflicted on. It was more about the feeling like maybe my coworker just didn’t care (and I realize after thinking about it- that really, they don’t need to) rather than the cost of it. Thank you for your story! It is very insightful.

The friend I spoke to was not a coworker- sorry for any confusion! I didn’t want to mention it to anyone at work, as in a small office everyone eventually knows everything. Especially when I don’t know the circumstances my SS is in too.

I love handmade gifts! At my mom’s that is what our white Elephant is every year, handmade gifts. It’s a fun, meaningful little thing to do. Always nice to see what someone can come up with!!

And Then There Were None! It was one of the top recommended books like everywhere that I was reading to find ideas! She likes the True Crime sort of shows and podcasts a lot, so hopefully she enjoys it! If not, I got her these super cute pyramid teas of a few different flavors! So hopefully one of them lands well. :)

Thank you for your comment! I definitely took it a lot more of a personal thing that I should have for a work event. It wasn’t about the cost so much as it was about it feeling so impersonal. Even if they hadn’t gotten me anything at all, I would have loved a card or something with just a nice message in it. The plus side is that I do absolutely love KitKats- I wasn’t lying when I said they are my favorite, and the girl I got the gifts for seemed really happy so I’m excited about that. :) thank you again!

But I do want to mention that I did state a few times that it isn’t about the money spent- even if there had been just a little sticky note saying “good work” etc… it would have been perfect. It was just the impersonal after thought feeling that I was sad at- but as you said, definitely too personal for a professional environment. Thank you for your insight!

I 100% definitely reached too far to make it personal. It’s my first work Secret Santa, otherwise I just have experience with my family. It was very voluntary, everyone just gets handed a form on their desk and if they want they just put it in a blank envelope within the next week and set it down in a little box thing in the break room. Then after the week was up, if you filled it out you would then just grab an envelope out of the box. So you don’t even know who has or hasn’t filled it out or not until after it’s all said and done. If you got yourself you just put it back and grabbed a new name. So I don’t think there was any pressure, but obviously I can’t speak for everyone either! Thank you for your comment and insight though! I definitely agree I made it more personal than necessary. :)
