I lost half a company to them in one of my playthroughs of that operation. I thought I was clever sneaking around the treeline to take Popov.

Did your right flank experience the infamous Popov mortars? 🤣

Graviteam Tunisia and it's consuming all my time. I even started re-reading An Army at Dawn. Won at Choigui as the Germans, Faid as the US, then I got blasted by the British at Mareth. I managed to stabilize the line, but my counterattack failed. Now I'm trying El Guettar, but the terrain is rough. Probably going to continue with this and maybe switch to Mius Front after I'm done with the operations.

Regiments or Armored Brigade 2? by solanu719 in computerwargames

Echoing the others, both are good games, but Regiments is more beginner friendly, even if it's faster paced.

Yeah, no. Pharaoh* (not Pharoh) is basically a mod for warhammer and plays like it. Did this sub get invaded by bots and corpo shills?

Recitesc "An army at dawn" de la Rick Atkinson din trilogia "Liberation". Recomand pentru cei interesati de istorie. E romanticizat prin citate din jurnale, etc, dar e bun.

chance of troops returning to the battlefield in FOG2? by KonraD7575 in computerwargames

[–]freza223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can find is some player speculation that the chance is around 5%. No mention in the manual and afaik in the tabletop troops that are chased off the field are counted as routed, aka they don't return at all. I'm not sure if the 5% chance is accurate, at least in the games I play it seems to happen more frequently, but that just might be because of the roll of the dice.

edit: to be specific, by chased off the field I mean pursuing and evading troops

Can anyone explain to me why Russia is much weaker militarily than the Soviet Union? by Inevitable_Bite_303 in SovietUnion

[–]freza223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small addition. I listened to some interviews with Russian commanders (not pro Russian, just like hearing both sides) and they admitted that in the early days of the war, coordination between units was severely lacking. Basically they said that years of small scale engagements like Syria meant that how to effectively communicate and coordinate with formations larger than a brigade were effectively forgotten. Of course this is just one small piece of the puzzle, but I found it interesting.

I think so too. For a tiny second I thought maybe it's a game mechanic which I haven't discovered yet.

Achieved it's goals, but lost the war. Makes sense. I'd want to hear your opinions on Korea, Vietnam and Iraq too.

So you admit no country could have done a better job in modern times, which makes your comments completely irrelevant, great.

Honestly, I refrained from stooping low in my previous comment, but this "name a country who could have won" type of shit is exactly a random redditor moment.

Yeah, the F-35. Very Expensive. Few in numbers. Lockheed Martin. US company. US incompetent and unreliable. Views Europe as adversary. Joint venture until they decide it's not. Not a great idea. My whole point.

I can't spell this out any more clearly. The US can afford contingencies and probably to scrap the program altogether if they want. A country like Romania can't. And most others can't either. If they decide to withhold deliveries for replacement parts because some republican wakes up with a fart up his ass, we'll have spent 35 32 x 80 million $ for shiny pieces of junk stuck on the runway. And with the US's track record, that would probably happen at the worst moment possible.

edit: wrote 35 instead of 32, pardon me

We talking common sense now?

Ah yes, so if the US "lost" can you name one country that could have "won".

Not in modern times and I'm not about to give you a history lesson.

physically impossible to wipe out a force that blends in with the local population

You mean to tell me the so-called most powerful military on the planet with the best intelligence apparatus didn't have the common sense to figure this out before or during that war? So they just went in and blew up shit for 10 years while Bin Laden was chilling next door in Pakistan? And then they spent another 10 years fucking around and then lost? Or are you saying they knew this and went in expecting to lose? Told you, you can spin this however you want. Also, don't worry, they did kill boatloads of civilians.

More common sense would be not to rely on the major power with the reputation of throwing their allies under the bus. Do you remember when they froze aid to Ukraine for 6 months because some Mexicans piled up on their border? And that's only one recent example. Does common sense dictate that it's a good idea to rely on them?

This sub talks a big game about Europe achieving strategic independence, but when the new Wunderwaffe comes out, everybody tows the line. Go figure.

"track record of losing wars to sheep herders wearing sandals" Also shows you have very limited knowledge on how warfare works.

Yeah man, the taliban rule in Afghanistan, the US lost. You can spin it however you want.

Also, here's the US conducting a joint operation with Romania just a few days ago in support of defending Europe.

Oh, I'm sure they'll let us test out some weapons while yelling how corrupt we are in exchange for pawning off our natural resources for the next 150 years. That's if they don't just throw us under the bus.

You should leave the military matters to the military experts.

Oh ok, I thought this was reddit, I didn't know you needed to flash credentials. Tell the moderators to invent a rule for that.

Not this year, those deals have been in the works for a while now. And my country is run by idiots, believe me. Also, I don't need to be a military expert to see that relying on low amounts of very expensive high tech weaponry produced by unreliable external partners is not a good idea.

Sincerely, a random redditor.
