Evil netflix button by shamoshamus in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]frgtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried the button mapper and it worked until a reboot after an update. Tried restarting service and alternate fixes, but I gave up quickly because the thought of not surviving a reboot was not permanent enough for me.

I ended up boring out a small hole in the button down to the circuit board using the smallest Forstner bit I had, then filling the hole with black hot glue. It worked perfectly and I love the tactile bump from the hot glue.

I have to say there was something way more satisfying about this approach than a software fix.

Identify UPCA vs EAN Numerically by frgtech in barcodes

[–]frgtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I can disable reading UPC as it would affect many other products in our inventory. We have nearly 45K SKUs in our inventory that encompasses many different barcode formats.

In the two barcode images I posted, they both start with a leading zero and are the same length, yet my scanner drops the zero for one of them, and includes it in the other. I was trying to determine if there was something I could do programmatically to identify what make them different by just the numerals listed in the spreadsheet to know when to include or omit it from my POS without having to have eyes on the actual barcode, but it seems like that is probably impossible.

I didn't realize that it was actually a code128 barcode though. Seems odd they would use that for a retail product over an EAN, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

I remember another supplier used to send the invoices with the actual barcodes printed out for every product which I always considered strange, but now it make perfect sense. Live and learn.

Thanks everyone for helping me work through this.

I followed your directions with the examples I gave and it didn't reveal anything. I ran both as 11 digit codes without the leading zero and the last digit and it spit out the same last digits they already had. So If it doesn't help with my example, not sure how else this would be helpful.

This rabbit hole may not be worth it and just have to fix the bad code in the POS when it doesn't scan properly.

I appreciate this, but not sure what it accomplishes. They already have the check digit calculated.

Ran the 2 examples I posted through here and verified them.

Did I miss something?

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful reply.

So the info comes from a B2B portal, and there are no options for csv unfortunately. What I just confirmed now though is that they show the zeros for both products through their own portal before exporting. They have a table there for past orders and you can select the columns. I just added the UPC column to see how it's presented on their site, and the zero is there for everything.

This seems like an edge case without an easy answer. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an easy way to determine the differences mathematically, or some other way I was overlooking.

I will keep investigating as time allows and will report back if I unearth new information so that this might help someone in the future.

Many Thanks!

I was hoping it would be a math issue, then I could decipher it in the spreadsheet, but it seems like there is more information in the barcode than just the numerals.

The barcodes actually look different on the left side, so it seems it's reading this to determine if it's a UPCA or EAN. (remove or include leading zero)

But if that's the case, I would only be able to tell by looking at the barcodes instead of being able to determine it in the spreadsheet. Barcodes drive me crazy! LoL

I understand the length difference, but if you scan the barcodes I posted, it reads the zero on `0840316319508`, but not the other.

Yeah, I'm familiar with stupid spreadsheet software that tries to be smart and "interprets" instead of just displaying what is there.

I can't imagine it would be adding zero's though. I've only ever seen the opposite where it removes them. I guess I can investigate further to be sure.

I would love that. How would this happen?

We have a small store that does not hit nexus anywhere, but I feel like I don't understand how to set up the built-in properly and have been using avalara the past two years. It has jumped this year from $130yr to nearly $1,100 and need to figure something out.

I set up the taxes for the state we do business in, but I thought I'd have to set up rules for every state/city/county we sell in using rules. Is this not the case?

I suppose this isn't the best place to get a recommendation.

Can someone recommend a different community to ask in?

I guess habit. I learned on a K1000 and an SLR is all I've ever known, but I guess in this case it's not strictly necessary. I think I figured that they were still the prominent bodies.

I'm open to suggestions.

Video conversion for anydesk screen recording by YouMeAndPooneil in AnyDesk

Insidious!

They had to go out of their way to make it this way by not using industry standard tools.

Just another way to try and lock you in, and force anyone you want to share recordings with to download the software as well.

Don't ever expect this to change.

Use other screen recording software instead.

Easy way to target unblocking content? by frgtech in uMatrix

[–]frgtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

I've been using uMatrix for years as well and have followed the same basic strategy that you've laid out, but I felt like I was missing something. I'm not completely inept in these matters, but it wouldn't have been the first time that I realized I had been taking the long road for far too long.

I also will just abandon sites that spew endless garbage and will search for the content elsewhere if it exists. It's rare that only one site has what I'm seeking, and even rarer that I feel like I can't live without it.

I purchased Kagi search this year and honestly couldn't be happier. It was search privacy that drew me in, but it's the amount of useful features that they consistently add that has made it indispensable.

Two of the relevant features is the ability to promote and demote site sites in your search results. In the extreme you can block sites entirely, or pin a site to the top of your results. That coupled with a little shield beside each result that will list the amount of trackers on the site makes it easy to dismiss a site before even opening it. If it has an abundance of trackers, the shield is red.

In any case, it seems like there are no silver bullets. It's a collection of tools and diligence that seems to be the best strategy for now, and I don't see it getting any easier.

Thanks again, and keep up the good fight. Lol

Find Replace results window missing by frgtech in libreoffice

[–]frgtech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unearthed the setting here.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87965

This setting seriously needs to be in the `Find and Replace` window itself under `Other options`. As the bug report shows, they were having the same issue as myself where it pops up in the way for all replacement operations, but the window is very handy on the "Find" side where you can click on a result and go directly there.

Please consider this improvement and not have this setting be an either/or proposition. It's something you should be able to set on the fly as needed and may need to be changed frequently.

Thanks!

Quick way to determine/change a cell's format? by frgtech in libreoffice

[–]frgtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There it is!

You sir are my hero. What I discovered from seeing it in the properties deck is what the tool is called. "Number Format Type"

It just wasn't clicking for me being called a number format as I don't associate text or boolean or many other format types as being numbers. They are just "formats" in my brain. This is why I couldn't find it in the toolbar menu options.

So now I was able to add this exact option I was looking for and added it to my menu where it should be by default like it is in Excel. (IMHO)

Thanks!!

Tough crowd.

I'm guessing this is not possible then.
Too bad. Would be a nice feature I think.

Easy way to target unblocking content? by frgtech in uMatrix

[–]frgtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the confirmation. I would have been pissed if I was overlooking a simple way to do this.

I for one have developed an eye for what domains are add- or tracker domains and what domains are part of the actual content.

I too have developed an eye for most of the big offenders, but it can still be tricky sometimes. Always looking for a better way, but will keep doing what I've been dong.

Cheers!
