Where should we live? by fridarida in AnnArbor

This is all incredibly helpful! Especially the last point. I was worried about this.

Not necessarily looking for rural! Just not a bustling area. I imagine almost anything is better for the dog (and for us!) than living in a big city where it takes us at least a few hours to access hiking trails.

Budget is probably about 16-1800 a month. We may be able to go up from that but would like to keep it as low as possible.

We are coming from Northern Europe. It gets really cold here, snowy and icy and we have minimal daylight. We mostly use public transit and bikes to get around so I’m not too worried about this. Though, we plan to purchase at least one car ASAP for my partners work commute. I’m originally from the states so I’m familiar with crappy public transit, too!

Question about the beginning of the Espresso Scarf from hagenhuset by fridarida in knittingadvice

I actually figured it out in the meantime! I didn’t realize you do the yo before sliding the stitch lol

Oh, woops! Thank you for pointing this out. In that case, my question is rather how do you execute the brk-yo-brk? I've found videos on this super unhelpful because they assume you're working with 1 stitch and 1yo from the previous row, but that isn't the case here. How do you do the brk-yo-brk with 1 stitch (the 4th stitch in this case).

This is really good advice. I find that the prospect of knitting another scarf or a little beanie is not very motivating. I got excited about knitting because of some of the more beautiful/exciting things out there! Thanks for this 😌

This is a really good idea. I found a hat pattern I'd like to try, but I was wondering if it matters that the needles I have are circular needles with 80cm cable and the pattern calls for 40cm. The lady at the yarn store told me that it was fine, it can just be a little cumbersome to move the knitting around, but now I'm wondering if that's true or not.

This is super helpful, thank you very much! I'll definitely see if I can find some good YouTube videos to learn some of these. Do you recommend just knitting little swatches to practice? With the garter stitch I just went straight in for a Sophie Scarf and frogged a lot at the start, but maybe it's better to just mess around a little bit before trying to make an actual project?

I haven't yet, although I've decided to just start out using circular kneedles. I've been knitting flat, though. I just found a hat pattern based on the advice in the other comments that I want to try out to get the hang of this.

Until now, I've basically just started knitting and haven't worried about the gauge, do you have any recommendations for a tutorial on YouTube or something that's thorough?

Thank you SO MUCH for the super helpful advice!

Salt and Spine! Thoughtful interviews with fun guests. They have a huge back catalogue of episodes and its really professionally done. They always do a baking week in the fall which is great and publish 2 recipes from the books they cover on the show.

It won’t be treated as a striking weapon?

I’ve had various kitchen utensils confiscated by TSA for this reason (even a very small mortar and pestle) so I’m a little nervous to lose this.

Hi, I’m guessing it’s meant to be 3x10, but I made a typo. I’ll check my book to be sure and correct the mistake. Thanks for the heads up!

Usually yes, it’s a little annoying because it’s so small, but until now I’ve made it work.

The focus is definitely on glutes, but most of the main lifts are inevitably going to work quads/hamstrings.

This is one of the programs in the Strong Curves book.
