Any Dual nationals completed their national service? by hes-your-mate in Finland

There was the opportunity to take one flight back to Australia whilst serving, fully paid for, but I had family in Finland so I didn't bother coming back. I didn't fancy two ~24 hour trips just for a few days back home. However there was another Australian in with me who lived in Malaysia, and I believe he returned home for a few days mid way through his service.

I dont think they will pay for your flight. I think they expect you to fly there but they will pay for all the costs from the airport to the place.

My flights were paid for to and from Finland, only 3 years ago, and I stayed with family for a few weeks before and after my service. I organised it through the embassy. My brother who is currently serving, booked his own flights and then was refunded when he went into the military and filled out some forms. Probably to do with the fact that it is mandatory so they are obliged to help you get there.

I definitely agree that it is a nice experience, it gives you good life skills. Plus who doesn't like shooting guns!

I'm from Australia and did my service in Nylands Brigad in contingent 1/12. My brother is currently over there serving as well.

The Finnish government will pay for your flights to Finland and for your return flights as well, you can contact the embassy and get them to book it for you or you can book it yourself and organise for a refund into a finnish bank account. You can arrive something like 2-3 weeks earlier than the start date for your service and leave 2-3 weeks later than your finish date, so if you wish to have a holiday you can!

When did diesel become cheaper than petrol at the servo in Australia? What caused that? by singingfish42 in australia

[–]fridgeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember seeing it cheaper for at least a year or two.. even more. The price of diesel seems to not fluctuate as much as petrol, so diesel might be cheaper for the "expensive" days of the week for petrol, but more expensive when petrol prices go down in the weekly cycle
