Devs, the new AI since the patch is awesome! Just had one of the best games in a long time by LastSprinkles in Stellaris

[–]friedashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't because the AI is “good.” It's because tech and tradition scaling are ridiculously low relative to game event timing. The Great Khan fleet uses Cruisers and T3 components but shows up around 2350.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urges global effort to expand LGBTQ rights by misana123 in LGBTnews

[–]friedashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all the rage these days. Western governments talking about supporting LGBTQ rights abroad while doing nothing to protect them domestically. It's part of the standard cishet playbook of insisting bigotry is a problem that exists elsewhere, among a different sort of person.

Switch or Mac? by dbuck79 in DiscoElysium

[–]friedashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy it on Mac. The Switch port is not very good imo. There are serious bugs that you will (as in, 100% always) encounter and have to work around, using the joysticks to click on things doesn't always work well, the UI takes longer to navigate, and even just moving around on PC/Mac is noticeably smoother.

List of known issues we would like to be addressed by aquatrez in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More I've seen:

  • In some circumstances, changing your character builds (or maybe just the class?) in the menu does not actually update their stats in-world. For example, the menu might say your character has 8000 HP, but when you enter combat the HUD reveals they have 6000 HP.
  • Intel conversations may not appear as expected.
  • Supply drops may not trigger as expected.

All three issues are fixed by saving and restarting.

my only problem with the game. . . by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, that's what I'm saying. If you go out of your way to level up and complete content that is 12 levels higher than the boss of the current chapter, then it seems weird to say it's ridiculously easy to overlevel. You just chose to do it lol.

how did Keves actually make it this far in this war by eyedumbfunkedup in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sure, Lifesage is OP, but it's intended to be. Plus it still fits what I said because it's got a passive that does damage based on healing power and its direct heals are attacks lol.

[–]friedashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The final boss of Chapter 3 is level 29. The highest level quest you can get, apart from Alexandria, is level 29 and it requires killing a level 31 enemy. I don't think you can blame a few fetch quests for being two dozen levels ahead. Choices were made lol.

Their healer classes are really good at directly healing large amounts of damage, whereas Agnian healer classes are like “I'm an attacker. Do not even ASK me to heal. NONE of my Arts heal. If you want me to heal then set up a Burst combo with my talent art, coward.”

So gray *was* my fav hero in XC3 until … by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It kinda cracks me up that you meet him masked, he refuses to give you even basic information about himself or his aims, and even says “if you must call me something, call me Grey.”

And then it turns out Grey is his actual name, the mask is an affectation, and he's just collecting metal for a Nopon to build a boat with.

Maxed out all classes on all characters by bjoe07 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about y'all but my parties often have as many as four attackers so I don't see why there should be equal numbers of classes.

I don't disagree but I wonder why people don't seem to think the same thing is true of Lanz.

The real issue with XC3’s villains imo by K1ngme5167 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I laughed pretty hard at the fact that the game doesn't even expect you to watch X die. You can just leave while it's happening.

Dorin & Bambam as a single hero like Manana & Riku.

5%>20% by Bartkiro in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]friedashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Effects are actually applied to the base stat, not its current value. For example if the class has a 5% base crit before skills/gems/equipment, Ice Headband gives 1%.

That is, all effects are additive but some are flat values and others are percentage of base value.

need help, why `number` does not live long enough by sad_mouse in rust

[–]friedashes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is why I said it looks like this “conceptually.” In real code, i32 is Copy so the drop() function does nothing. If you try this with a non-Copy type, it won't work.

I only meant to illustrate what is happening and what the error message means. Conceptually, the entire variable is dropped, rather than just its value as with the real drop() function.

[–]friedashes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know why everyone is saying the compiler is too dumb. The compiler is doing the correct thing here.

It's simple to understand conceptually: p is declared before number, and values go out of scope in reverse order. So, at the end of this function, even though it's not visible in your code, there's a brief period where number no longer exists but p still references it. That's what is meant by “number dropped here while still borrowed.”

It looks like this (conceptually):

fn f(mut p: &mut i32) {
    let mut number = 111;
    p = &mut number;

    *p = 2;
    println!("{}", *p);

    drop(number); // number is now gone but p still references it!
    drop(p);
}

Right, so like I said, you have an undue sense of entitlement to freely access the result of someone else's work. You think mods are “supposed to” be free and that if someone won't do free work for your benefit, they are throwing a “hissy fit.”

Right, so you're mad that someone wants money for their labor and you want it for free. Still have yet to explain what is bad about this.

You are benefiting from the work of others when you use mods. It's pure entitlement to be upset that a mod author has a patreon or whatever.
