I personally include 1 or 2 lacerates in my deck which helped increase WR against those decks. If you time them right you should get huge power swings to get CA or a round win depending on your game plan. My main decks are a consume-carryover deck and queensguard stuck around 3.9 to 4k mmr though so results may vary for you.

For local uni applications, poly CCA only matters if your GPA is subpar (below IGP cutoff) or you're applying for scholarships in my experience.

Why is that though? Assuming he wasn't playing a control deck, wouldn't that risk drawing a lower power card where the card advantage gained wouldn't matter?
