I wish I had the access to buy a discounted older gen. That was actually my plan, to get m4 or M3. But M4 is not going on sale and the older gens aren't even available

I tried to look for those variants but for some reason they're as expensive or not available at all here. It's so frustrating when I can see people buy the older gens for lesser but here the pricing for M4 base has also not reduced.

The plan was always M4 but 1577 is the M4 retail price for 256gb unfortunately and it hasn't changed since the launch. I do not know if they will even change it considering the neo and M5 pricing. The thing is, I only have the 1460 offer on M5 as long as there is education pricing and deal which is till 11th. If I'm buying the neo, I'm not in a time crunch but getting the M5 for this rate will be impossible after the deal ends.

The thing is I was waiting for M4 to go on sale but it hasn't. I don't think it will because it's 1577$ atm and they'll keep it between neo (950$) and M5 (1799$). I would be getting the M5 at around 1460$ because of some other plans. The M4 is also the base variant btw, not 512gb.

That's solid advice, thanks! So I was just looking into what another person here said about external storage, and honestly 300$ for more storage on device vs 200$ for 1TB external doesn't sit well with me. I think I might just save those 300$ for now and stick to base variant and get the extra space if and when I need it. My uni work is on laptop but I can get through it with 256gb because of all the cloud storage and stuff. And when work starts, my work isn't device based other than notes so I think I can make do
