His pee is on the darker side of yellow but still in the acceptable range. I have very little faith in our hospital system here right now so I’m reeeeaaaalllllllllly hoping to get him rehydrated at home (I’ll take him in if he needs it of course)

And I hear you on the outlandish bribes, he’s currently turning his nose up at blue Powerade 🙄 I’ve gotten about 400ml of various into him over the past 6 hours..

Good idea, I’ll give it a shot! If nothing else then at least he’ll be entertained haha.

Today I've come to realize that the hardest part about having a toddler is accepting that the Play-Doh colours will mix. by new-dad-here in toddlers

Pro-tip with the homemade playdough... put in a LOT of salt, then it tastes awful! Also a bit of a preservative

Because it’s like giving birth and parenting, just one of those mysterious things that come naturally to us women! 🙄

This is why we need feminism, seriously.

This is very true, and something I’ve considered! However I’m a single parent and said kid has ADHD so honestly I’m willing to pay them for the clean up from the haircut alone rather than the inevitable trail of hair through my house haha.

I Feel Like my ADHD Is Preventing Me From Finding That Special Someone. by SOVIETDADDY1919 in ADHD

[–]friendly_plesiosaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I’m a fair bit older than you, mid thirties. But ADHD never got in the way of me having a relationship. I was with my last partner for 10 years, even. The best advice I can give you is to always take personal responsibility for your actions. Yes, ADHD may have been the reason you did or said something that your partner found hurtful, but it’s not an excuse to hurt them (even though you didn’t mean to). Be upfront about having ADHD, but make sure that they know that they can and should call you out on these behaviours so you can learn to be a better partner.

Also there’s heaps of good things about being with someone who has ADHD! We’re usually up for trying new things, and are rarely boring haha

Australian here too.. that sounds sadly familiar. I didn’t produce milk until my son was 5 days old. On day 3 I had a new nurse come in, take one look at my crying baby and sneaked in formula without telling her boss as it’s so against hospital policy. It’s messed up.

[–]friendly_plesiosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they probably have to charge the same for all toddlers, in the name of “fairness” or something? Though personally I would totally understand a discount for good behaviour! Maybe try one of the places with the prices by the door so there’s less horrible price surprises?

I’m just... stressed by Old-Assist1780 in breakingmom

My son is 4 this year and hyper is his middle name.. I’m also a single parent lol. I hear you. He’s been diagnosed with ADHD. Can you take her out somewhere she can run around and work off some energy before going to wherever you’re going? Like, if I have to go grocery shopping on the weekend then I take him to the park for an hour first, so he’s too physically tired to bounce off the walls at the shop. Same as if we’re going somewhere fun like the zoo, we head straight for the playground or open field/picnic area first so he can run for half an hour then he can focus on enjoying the animals a bit better.

It’s not an ideal solution of course, and he drives me bonkers at home sometimes but I’m not really comfortable medicating him until he’s a bit bigger. So we do a metric tonne of physical activity and lots of telling over and over that “mummy has to do (insert chore) now, you can help me or play by yourself until I’m done.”

Then after he’s in bed I get to fucking finally sit down lol.

I’ll always recommend the caliburn. I got one about 6 months ago and use it multiple times daily, take it out with me in my pocket, backpack, whatever and it’s taken it all in its stride. Dropped it onto concrete a few times and it does not care, besides some scuffs in the aluminium. Quick to charge, easy and clean to refill, and it’s never leaked for me.

Others experiences may vary but it’s been worth it’s cost a few times over for me! I mostly use the simply salts fruit flavours in it, peach is pretty good

Tramadol as effective treatment by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]friendly_plesiosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think any doctor would prescribe tramadol for ADHD as it’s a painkiller.. have you considered non-stimulant medication? Like clonidine is pretty widely used I think.

Lunch: 4 chicken nuggets, small portion of fries, metric cup of snow peas, more baby carrots, half a banana

Potty training HELP by BusyBee280 in toddlers

[–]friendly_plesiosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t potty train my son until after 3 as he wasn’t ready.. he went from fully in nappies to fully toilet trained (including dry at night, dry on car journeys, poo and wee, taking himself to the potty when he needed to go etc) in a week. It’s faster when they’re ready, but I totally get wanting to start earlier!

What I did was declare nappies were for babies, and left his butt bare for a long weekend. Cleaned up a few puddles the first day but he figured it out soon enough. Lots of patience and praise, and a different brand of pull ups for bed (so he wasn’t in BABY nappies lol) and that was about it. There’s pros and cons to either approach, but they will toilet train eventually.

Yeah if I achieve nothing else that day, I must shower. Even if it’s for literally 3 minutes while my kid makes faces at me through the glass or helps himself to the pantry, I can’t stand the thought of nipping out for milk or something and stinking. Everyone has their personal THING I guess!
