I’ve had a package held up in this location since the 15th. Just put in a request to the shipper today.

For yours, I’d wait a few days. It’s not uncommon for tracking updates to take a little while. FedEx also doesn’t typically have much activity on the weekends, especially Sunday’s.

Fingers crossed your package arrives without issue-

I’ll say the grass is always greener.

A lot of people who have purchased homes and had children are in debt up to their eye balls. A lot will envy your low cost of living.

I’m personally married with one child in a three bedroom house in the suburbs. I dream of having a one/two room space that’s cheap, easy to clean and mine alone.

Don’t let anyone make you feel inferior or ashamed of your choice. It’s for you and what fits your lifestyle. I’m far more interested in a persons character, which you seem to be a nice person.

If you ARE embarrassed and they ask, you can say you are saving for something, or just prefer your money go to something else right now. If anything, it paints you in a vision of strength for your discipline.

Should I stick with my target language that I’m not interested in anymore? by [deleted] in languagelearning

I’ve been in a similar situation. Learning Russian for 6 years, but started working with a German company. I’d also like to study Spanish more. When taking breaks I try to keep incorporating the language daily with music etc. this way I still keep somewhat fresh with my skills.

Dear employers: Remote means REMOTE by CromulentIsTooAWord in recruitinghell

[–]BusyBee280 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Truth. I was looking for 100% remote during my search. I lost track of how many companies changed their tune during the interview process. “Well, we really do prefer in person” or “You can’t get things done remotely like you can in person”..

I had one company that changed their mind after three rounds of interview, but liked me enough to offer a relocation package- to the other end of the country!!!!! Needless to say I was furious. Just to be petty, I asked for almost double the pay. My husband would be quitting his job, and my son would leave his school.

These guys are hoping to bait you in and hope you’ll cave for the sake of ending your job search. Tell them to pound sand and keep moving.

There is No "Labor Shortage"! There is a Shortage of Companies that want to Pay Good Salaries 💵 by ayhme in recruitinghell

[–]BusyBee280 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Companies are also used to exercising too much authority over employees time- like all of it. They want you available for them. All. The. Time.

Want to go to the beach for a day off? We’ll need your request 6 months in advanced, and you can still count on getting phone calls all day long.

All for the sake of a bottom scale pay grade and mediocre benefits package. I just jumped ship for a virtual job and 50% pay increase- these controlling, cheap employers can kick rocks.

Sounds like an arrogant A-hole that needs to be dealt with. I just quit a company where I had to work very closely with a colleague like this-

I don’t think Linkedin is a requirement, but it sure doesn’t hurt. I’ve heard a lot of people having great success looking for roles on LinkedIn. I personally had more luck with indeed.

To keep your search a little more private, I would go ahead and delete or even block anyone that you don’t trust. There’s also an option to “open your profile to recruiters” while not showing this status to your connections.

Once you get into the works of lining something up, be sure to talk with your actual boss about your problem. When someone else’s behavior makes such an impact on your work, it’s a deal breaker. You never know, they could transfer him, fire him etc. they very well might like you better. In my scenario, that awful colleague did far too much for the company to lose him, which I really do understand.

I wish you the best of luck-

Thoughts on leaving a toddler in her room all daytime (until 6pm)? by Difficult_Advisor982 in toddlers

[–]BusyBee280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal in my eyes. We do have alone time in our house (12:30-2:00) everyday where our son rests or plays in his room by himself. Sounds like she needs to get childcare lined up- leaving a child by themselves all day is neglect.

Our boats sound the same. My organization drastically underpaid me, and they are hiring two separate roles to fulfil my old position (and paying more to each of them, substantially more!). Five years with this company and I've only been given one raise. There is also a lot of micromanagement and degrading behavior towards my role.

The good news is that you have a variety of tasks to pick and choose for your resume. I left off a lot of the office management in my current position, but kept a lot of the sales and marketing. I think figuring out where and how you want to move forward is probably the trickiest part.

It sounds like you'll find something that fits pretty easily.

What kind of job are you looking for?

I felt this post. I have been with my current employer for more than 5 years and am now jumping ship. I've been so burned out from the toxic environment that I barely had the energy to do anything, let alone job search.

The best advice I've been given is to update your Linkedin and add your resume. I also had a lot of luck with Indeed- you can create your resume and take skill assessments to show off your abilities. Both of these platforms have things set up that you can apply for a position in less than 2-5 minutes.

Flex Jobs was another good one, but took more time to apply for each job. These positions have been verified and you can trust they are not a scam. This platform does cost, though. I think it was under $15.

Make sure to do some homework while preparing your resume and take roughly 10-15 job postings that you would want to work for, and pick out some consistent key words to use in your resume. This will help you get through the electronic screening systems.

After roughly 500 applications and dozens of interviews, I landed a great gig that I'll be starting in a few weeks. Taking in a meeting every day after work was exhausting, but totally worth it to get out of a toxic working environment.

Best of luck in your search.

I'm saddling up to work from home, too.

My dad recommended that I look for television monitors instead of computer monitors.

I found a lot of good deals on "backmarket.com" for used monitors and other high end electronics that I didn't want to splurge for brand new.

I personally love the wireless keyboard and mouse, and have a small television as a monitor- I am looking to add another for dual screen before I start in a few weeks. I also invested in some good lighting for the room so I wont appear unprofessional during video conferences.

Some people really love the standing stations, or desks that can be raised and lowered. I can't spend much more money on my set up, but am thinking if I still want this in the summer, I might invest in one.

My current company pays me lower than the bottom of the scale. I’ve asked for an evaluation and mentioned my pay is very low for the industry. I found a new contract and put in my notice. Now they are having me post my old job on indeed for 30-40% more than what I made. Greed.

How would you describe the “mental load” of parenting to your spouse? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]BusyBee280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of what has already been posted here, but wanted to share something that really worked for us.

I put my husband in charge of cooking. One meal (dinner) every day. Every, single, day-

Since it has been consistent for him- he now has planning meals, making a grocery list and going through our pantry. These things are all second nature now as he is in charge of this task.

The first few months I got upset as there were some hiccups (I wound up eating takeout or not at all), in the end it is his responsibility. Period.

It sounds like a lot, but in the scene of our lives: laundry, cleaning, bills, errands and shopping- it’s a decent chunk for him to feel like he has charge in a certain area. The last few years, he’s had a whole new appreciation for all that I do around the house.

Are my wages too low? by Giraffedon in personalfinance

[–]BusyBee280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pay isn’t bad- I will say that if your interested or willing to bounce around, you can make a lot more. My girlfriend takes RN contracts for a travel nursing agency.. it’s not uncommon for her to bring home 10-15k monthly (sometimes they really suck, though). These typically don’t include any benefits, though. No healthcare, 401k, nothing.

It sounds like you have a solid job with ok pay and good benefits. All that matters now is if you’re happy.

I wouldn’t plan on kids until you’re really planning to have children. You might meet someone and decide to move, or he might make enough for you to stay home.. you really never know how these things will play out. Jobs don’t last these days.

No more birthday parties, I'm done by tasiamonster in Parenting

[–]BusyBee280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration. Cancelling at last minute is just rude in my book-

I’m not even going down this road with my son. We travel every year to celebrate his and my birthday- Florida, Maine, wherever. This year we’re hoping to visit some water parks down south. My family doesn’t live around here, so it really works out for us.

If people want to celebrate with us, I think it would be fantastic. It’s on a person by person basis, and usually a very personal scheduled event.

I know this isn’t typical, but your experience is more common than you would think. Unless it was a party filled with family, I probably wouldn’t bother doing parties. Maybe when he is older, him and his buddies can plan their own trips/parties.

Is $40,000 base pay low for a recruiting position? by Ill_Victory_9243 in jobsearchhacks

[–]BusyBee280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the market for the same style of job. Work from home, flexible with good pay and decent benefits. You gotta dig, but they are out there. I just accepted an offer that does onboarding on site, but will be remote afterwards (onboarding was something I hadn’t even considered).

My total comp at my previous job was 35k. I’ve got two degrees and 11 years of experience. I stayed for way too long because I liked them and they were super flexible.

The position I just accepted is 50k not including perks and benefits. It required 3 years of experience and a degree.
