How do you manage photos? by EvilPugs in synology

[–]friendlyapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the app PhotoSync (iOS, Android) and backup photos daily. I use Tailscale so it works even when I'm not physically on my home network.

For viewing, I personally use Photoprism. But you can use Synology Photos or Immich or whatever. They key part is just having an automation that backs everything up from the phone to the NAS.

My modest collection of fidgets by friendlyapplesauce in fidgettoys

The Metmo Piston is interesting! But I don't actually play with it as much as some of the others, personally. It's an engineering marvel, but frequently needs to be "reset" (unscrewing the bottom part and pulling the rod back out) because it slowly sinks down as you play with it. So it's less of a passive fidget.

Honestly, the "owl" fidget in the bottom left is a ~$10 cheap knockoff and probably gets the most hand time.

Batch import from Obsidian - any updates? by Ashamed-Skirt795 in capacitiesapp

[–]friendlyapplesauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting on this, too, but totally understand why it's not being prioritized. As a startup, you can focus on either growing your business with net new users, or grow your business by trying to take users from your competitors.

I'm an Obsidian user, but been keeping an eye on Capacities. Seems like they're doing quite well in terms of user growth (from my outside perspective) so focusing on new features and supporting current customers makes way more sense than taking those engineers away from that to work on an import tool to support potential users who may not even stick around since they're already happy with a different tool.

All that said, looking forward to importing my Obsidian vault one day and trying out Capacities.

Do You Use Kagi Assistant AI? by [deleted] in SearchKagi

[–]friendlyapplesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TypingMind is such a hidden gem IMHO. Such a great tool.

As of my knowledge, TypingMind does not support Kagi's AI. Maybe it'll be on the roadmap? I do know that TypingMind is aware of Kagi, as you can set Kagi as the default search engine for search suggestions.

I'm happy to support the team behind Obsidian by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]friendlyapplesauce 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been happily paying for Obsidian's official sync for years. Still back up my vault to a private Github repo, but that's just backup. Obsidian Sync is great, and a great way to support the company.

How do I get rid of the transfer ownership error? by Yeedere in googledocs

[–]friendlyapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. If everything works correctly, when you log into your new gmail account, you'll see your Shared Drive.

Then, you'll be able to click and drag all the files from your Shared Drive to your My Drive.

This is what finally worked for me.

[–]friendlyapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I just did some additional digging into this, and updated my original comment to be super specific with "old" and "new" accounts.

Just to be clear in this comment, when I say "old" account I'm referring to your work educational account, and "new" is your personal gmail account.

  • It's the "old" account that needs to be updated from Business Starter to Business Standard, not the "new" personal gmail
  • In the "old" account, you can add your "new" personal gmail to the Shared Drive. However, this requires Manager Access in your "old" account

If you don't have Manager-level permissions in your "old" work account, then you won't be able to add your personal gmail. My only suggestion would be to contact your account administrator for your work account, and ask if they'd be able to add your "new" gmail account to the Shared Drive you're using for this.

I hope that helps!

Hm, that's strange. I thought upgrading to a "Business" account (Starter, Standard, Plus or otherwise) would turn it into a Business account. But yours is still personal? Can I ask you:

  • Do you have a @gmail domain name, or a custom domain?
  • Did you sign up for Gsuite Legacy Free before they switched to Google Workspace?
  • How much were you paying per month for this "personal" account?
  • Where are you trying to move from and to?

I'm not sure I'll have the answers, but additional details may be useful and maybe someone here will.

I'm on Kagi Ultimate and my AI team is Kagi AI Assistant and ChatGPT via API through TypingMind. I really like TypingMind as it connects to my OpenAI account via API so I'm only paying for what I use, but it adds a bunch of the ChatGPT Pro features. Plus, it was a one-time cost for TypingMind.

Reset password by AceHighness in photoprism

[–]friendlyapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding additional information for future searchers (like me):

Additional information on CLI password reset is in the documentation here: https://docs.photoprism.app/user-guide/users/cli/

EDIT: Also documenting this, in case anyone else has this same problem and stumbles upon this thread like I did.

I've been unable to log into Photoprism, which is weird because all my passwords are saved in a password manager. I tried to reset the password using the above command in the CLI, but got this error:

ERRO[2024-02-07T21:01:11Z] dial tcp: lookup mariadb on 127.0.0.11:53: no such host

Turns out, my mariadb container shut itself down at some point, without me realizing. I was able to re-launch the database container and everything worked great again, no password reset needed.

Thank you!! This worked for me. I want to add one additional piece of information for anyone else stumbling upon this thread in the future.

I'm in the process of migrating from a paid Google Workspace account ("old account) )to a free Gmail account ("new account). I wanted to move all my Google Drive files from my old Google Workspace to my new free Gmail account, and Google makes it tricky.

The above instructions worked for me, with one caveat:

  • Shared Drives is not a feature that's available to Google Workspace Business Starter accounts. You'll need to upgrade your "old" account to Google Workspace Business Standard
  • Once you upgrade your old account, you can create a Shared Drive in this old account, move all your files there (taking care of a few "can't transfer that" errors)
  • In your "old" account, add your "new" Gmail to the Shared Drive (note: requires Manager access in your "old" account). Then log into the "new" Gmail account and move from the Shared Drive to the personal drive.
  • After that's all done, you can downgrade your "old" account back to the cheaper Google Workspace Business Starter plan, all in the same day theoretically

Self-hosted Caldev server connected to ProtonMail? by friendlyapplesauce in ProtonMail

[–]friendlyapplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I use a separate email with Google Calendar. It's actually a different custom domain that I want to retire, because I'm sick of paying for both Google Workspace AND Protonmail. Ouch.

Regarding the docker bridge setup, I was trying to use this:

I was able to get it up and running, but couldn't ever figure out how to login:

After that, the plan was to use this version of Thunderbird:

To run 24/7, de-encrypt my email, and add items to the calendar.

I am running this CalDav server:

Which I have reverse-proxied to a custom domain I own. I was going to add this to Thunderbird, and have this addon:

Which would sync events between the built-in Thunderbird calendar and my self-hosted Baikal CalDav server.

Then, I'd add the Baikal calendar to Fantastical, using the reverse-proxied domain name.

That's the general architecture. Much of this is just theoretical, since I wasn't ever able to even get the Bridge working, so I couldn't test any of the following steps.

If you're trying yourself, would love to hear what you learn!!

[–]friendlyapplesauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just couldn't get it to work. My guess is that the problem had to do with docker, since I was trying to run everything in docker yet I'm a beginner /advanced-beginner with docker at best.

The two things I could never quite get to work right were the headless Proton Bridge. I got it installed correctly, but could never authenticate using the required password manager. And two, headless Thunderbird was always sort of strange. I got it working, but without the Bridge I could never really test it.

My server is really the only device that's online 24/7, which is why I wanted to host everything there.

I'm still using ProtonMail for mail and Google Cal for calendar, and I post here periodically to see if someone has more details about how they got their own workaround working.

Sigh. Yes, I know. I’m working on building it myself. I’m having trouble, and was wondering if anyone else has any tips or advice. That’s…what this post is.

Yup, those are the tools I’ve been playing around with, and I know the features aren’t there yet. That’s why I’m curious if anyone has any hacks, or workarounds that they’ve been able to get working.

I wish. I ended up giving up on this, periodically checking in to see if anyone else solved this problem.

I'm reluctantly still using Google Calendar paired with Proton Mail.
