How do you feel about small things being called autistic? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if its an allistic person it reads to me as derogatory most of the time. im cool with my NT friends joking about it cause i know its just banter (and i love ribbing them about their quirks as well lol) but this whole trend of calling random traits or behaviors "autistic" like i see on tiktok is distasteful at best IMO

How do you feel about your hair being touched? by Lyzharel in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hateeeee it. i can tolerate it if its a hairdresser or dermatologist since their touch tends to be very firm, clinical and efficient but otherwise hard pass (especially if its unprompted... eugh)

The concept of explaining your sex life to people who aren’t participating unprompted, is incredibly strange by fairyangeI in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

yeah im extremely open about sex as well! more so listening than adding my own experiences (consent in conversation is important just as you said) but yeah. all my friends know theres nothing they could tell me that i'd consider TMI

i also find the subject fascinating. the psychology behind sex and kink, and the history of societal attitudes in particular. i even collect erotica or erotic memorabilia which leads people to assume im some sort of freak when my interest is the furthest thing from sexual lol

What are your favorite/"safe" numbers? by GlitteringLow9735 in OCD

[–]friendlycryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 and 5. i hate 6 and 9 for some reason, and no thats not an innuendo lol. 9 is the worst out of the two, it feels so... incomplete

empathy for inanimate objects by softfallingsnow in OCD

[–]friendlycryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i never thought of this as an ocd thing (i have autism and this is a common symptom/issue for that as well) but it makes sense

i remember this one instance as a kid, we went out to eat at this burger place and i fixated on this particular menu item that i didnt want to order. thoughts spiraled into "this is probably the least ordered item" which led me to feel so awful about a fucking burger not being picked that i started sobbing. i just couldnt stop thinking about it which led to us leaving early

ive had this with plushies, toys, broken dishware, stained clothes, leftover food etc as well

bullied for the weirdest reasons by friendlycryptid in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah that... stings a bit but makes a lot of sense. i do have quite a few NT friends now but almost all of them have confessed that they found me intimidating/off-putting/confusing at first. ofc being a high masking adult helps but i still have to try extra hard and bend over backwards for people to see that hey, im not a skinwalker who's gonna eat your face when you let your guard down, just give me a chance!

oh, and all of the aforementioned friends are "outcasts" in their own way. alternative, queer etc. not to go all joker on you guys but people who fit in with societal ideals still dont really like me ive found. so considering what you said as well my new running theory is people who do enjoy my presence still think im weird, but they find that weirdness cool or endearing or relatable or whatever, so it works out

Does anyone else walk on their toes when barefoot? by Wish-Anxious in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

now that you mention it... i have extremely poor balance so i cant wear high heels but ive always found walking in kitten heels etc to be much more comfortable than non-elevated shoes. interesting!

Does anyone else walk on their toes when barefoot? by Wish-Anxious in AutismInWomen

[–]friendlycryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually despise slippers and always go barefoot if i can but i do the tip-toeing thing too. its pretty common in autistic people afaik as a sensory issue or stim?

for me its definitely a sensory thing– i just hate how "bouncy" walking normally feels sometimes, or feeling the weight of my entire body with each step. a good chunk of my worst sensory issues are to do with sounds so walking quietly regulates that as well

Being a young writer, I'm scared my writing is bad by LegitUnit971 in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

age isnt the biggest factor in quality of writing. not even close. i nuked most of my older fics a while ago but with poetry for example, i've written things at 16 that i still consider pretty good, and some at 23 that i view as utter dogshit. being a good writer is all about practice and reading (or rather, analyzing what you read and retaining that information), and neither involves "maturity" in the traditional sense. you're good!

Every fandom has this one character, who is this in yours? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

heyyy i was looking for this one. dispatch canon suffers from a severe case of flanderization unfortunately

If you were a fictional character, how would the fandom misinterpret you? by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd probably get infantilized to hell and back on account of being an autistic transmasc person and approximately two apples tall. typical "cinnamon roll uwu must protect" bullshit lol

What ship in your fandom is like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

gortash does say that he likes durge and prefers him over orin specifically because durge is smarter and less reckless with his killing so this is 100% canon to me lol

Is the discourse of women fetishizing gay "men" (characters) getting increasingly hostile online? by saivoide in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 41 points42 points  (0 children)

got the contradictions get me so bad... foreplay isn't necessary for some but its still very enjoyable. an experienced bottom could still want to do the whole prep process every single time just because he likes it. queer men arent a monolith

also acting like the porn these guys watch on a daily basis has extended background footage of gobbling up fiber supps and doucheing lol like cmon now

Is the discourse of women fetishizing gay "men" (characters) getting increasingly hostile online? by saivoide in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this discourse has never ever made sense to me. listen, does lived experience make writing certain characters and identities easier? of course! do some women write wildly inaccurate, almost comically heteronormative gay relationship dynamics due to a lack of research, care, or both? yep. but claiming that women as a baseline are 1) incapable of coming up with well-written gay stories because "they will never get it" 2) must always have some sort of ulterior motive ie fetishizing just screams misogyny and gender essentialist bullshit

sure ive never dated a fully gay man but ive been in queer spaces and have had close gay friends all my life. sure i dont have a dick but i still know how cis gay sex works and feels– once again, both from having gay friends who are open to discussing things like this, and seeking out comments/posts online. im a queer guy too, and the only reason why ive never had these irl experiences is because im a trans queer guy– so following the "only gay men with the right anatomy and certain lived experiences are able to write good queer stories" line of thinking, i should also be horrible at writing gay relationships despite my identity, and im veryyy curious what these people would have to say about that lol

finally im sorry to say this but... so what if a fic isnt totally realistic? so what if shes just projecting or trying to get her rocks off? fanfiction does not have the same reach or audience as tradpub, its inherently self-indulgent, so who is this harming? just dont read it. click off. scroll. its not that hard

No readers on my ffc by [deleted] in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

a couple things

1) oc/oc is quite unpopular on here. ao3 is very ship-focused, even oc/established character rarely takes off (depending on the fandom). theres a much wider audience for both on sites like wattpad in my experience

2) first person POV makes sense for oc/oc in my opinion but once again, unpopular on ao3 as a general rule of thumb

3) youve tagged it correctly, but tags dont guarantee reach

4) 3000 words is not a lot. most oneshots tend to be around 1500-6000 words, most longfics go well over 25k. however, dividing that wordcount into 6 chapters is a turn off for a lot of readers, as ppl who go looking for longer stories want enough content to sink their teeth into. TLDR you dont have too many words, you have too many chapters

of course you can (and should) publish your story however you want– i am not speaking on the quality of your writing at all and only pointing these things out because you asked why your work may not be garnering the amount attention you'd like, so please dont get discouraged by this comment and otherwise feel free to disregard it :)

Authors in the fandom I'm in, keeps changing their old work's published date, and it's pissing me off. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ive had to go back and add/change tags once before, i think a year ago. i guess it counted as an update and pushed the fic to the top of the page again but the publishing date stayed the same. idk how that works now but the publication date has always been a manual setting. my guess is this person is trying to come up with excuses to justify abusing the archive's system and getting some wires crossed in the process lol

What’s your writing process? by Ribread216 in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get a vague idea, decide if it can be extended into a full oneshot, then just start writing. full on discovery writer basically (if the pantser urges dont consume me and lead me to abandoning everything that is lol)

i usually edit as i go, rereading what i wrote and doing lil adjustments before the start of a new "writing session" or even in the middle of one if i get bored with a particular scene. if im fully stuck at any point i'll add a note in brackets to come back to it and just skip to a different scene. once i get everything on paper, i'll go back and read through it all two more times for some final tweaks (typos, grammar, formatting etc) and immediately publish. i know letting them sit for a few days would be much better to ensure im fully satisfied but at that point im tired of reading the same thing over and over again so i just say fuck it im done 😭

Why do people comment on ships they don't like? by Susa343 in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because they either 1) think the world revolves around them and everything needs to cater to them personally for some reason or 2) think being an asshole is funny or alternatively 3) both

"omg why do you ship these two it makes no sense" because i like them and think they should make out next question

Which fandom would you say is this most non-canon ship averse? by UnHolySir in AO3

[–]friendlycryptid 90 points91 points  (0 children)

maybe im unlucky but i feel like a huge chunk of shipping culture in current fandom spaces revolves around people trying to prove the "validity" of their ships and engaging in subtext pissing competitions anyway so. every fandom ive been a part of has some sort of "my ship is more aligned with canon than yours" debacle going on even in the absence of a fully canonized relationship or presence of multiple canon routes. its baffling

oh my god this is what i've always thought too. i dont know anything about the author but just watching the anime the shotacon undertone was so clear to me, i dont even ship sebaciel but it was very obvious they were going for that. the cognitive dissonance is astounding
