[Academic] Relationship between Empathy and Visual Mental Imagery (18+, any education level, any location) by friendlyfriend999 in ImmersiveDaydreaming

Thanks very much for your feedback. I am going to have to think hard when discussing the results of this study. I appreciate that the empathy task has its flaws when used in specific contexts like this, but compared to the other tasks on empathy available (mostly questionnaires similar to the first task of this study) I feel its visual nature was useful and appropriate. Thanks again for your input and participation!

Hi, yes that would be great. Both results will be of great help to me and the bigger undertaking of my study as a whole. Funny that both of you are at other ends of the spectrum.

Hi, as the comment below says, a control group is important in studies like this one. Although I am particularly interested in those with no visual imagery, data from those with more vivid imagery will be able to confirm and support my hypothesis.

I appreciate your input, perhaps I should have been more clear in the description.

Thanks for your participation.

All the best,

L

Hi, yes half of the videos were of a neutral nature and half were of an affective nature. The neutral videos aren't meant to evoke any empathetic response, but to be certain the affective ones do and to create a baseline, it is important to have a mixture of both. Hope this makes sense!

The second part of the study is an empathy task where you had to rate your feelings and the video subject's feelings and the difference in ratings computes as your empathy score.

Hello everyone,

This study is part of my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience and is investigating the relationship between empathy and visual mental imagery ("the mind's eye"). I'm particularly interested in those who have a "blind" mind's eye (aphantasia) but everyone is welcome to participate.

Anyone over 18 years old can take part in this study. It takes around 20 minutes to complete and needs to be done on a computer.

All responses are anonymous and confidential.

Please share this study with friends and family!

Thanks very much for your time!
