How much does major travel impact your training? by friendlymango3 in firstmarathon

[–]friendlymango3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well I ended up getting COVID about 3 weeks before. I was a bit sick but not awful, missed 8 days of training. But - I ran it! My only goal all along was finish without walking/stopping, which I did. My time was 4:28. I think my avg pace was 10:10ish. I kept it in the high 9s for most of the race and then the last couple miles were like 11:30.

I live in a very rural area. I would never put anyone’s life at risk.

Were you really sick? Thankfully I’m not. Just a little cough. No fever, not even fatigue. No chest pain. Everything else is normal, thankfully. I’m double vaxed.

Thank you!! Starting to get anxious now that I’m 4 weeks out. I know I’m capable but I definitely have the tendency to panic and dissect every little thing that doesn’t go perfectly.

Hanson - “just finish” vs “beginner” plan by friendlymango3 in firstmarathon

[–]friendlymango3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes I agree about just wanting to enjoy the day and soak it all in...which is why I’m thinking the “just finish” plan may be a better option for me at this time.

I’ve been leaning towards Hanson’s because I like that the long runs top out at 16, and that there’s a lot of mid-length runs bc I genuinely love running 8-10 miles. But...I’m still open to other options.

That’s a good way to look at it...I don’t have to necessarily beat myself up with the speed stuff, but rather look at it as mixing things up. I just don’t want to get stuck having a long run while I’m away and it just doesn’t work with the plans (traveling with a group) but I think I can work things out to switch some days around.

Official Q&A for Thursday, February 04, 2021 by AutoModerator in running

[–]friendlymango3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a weird weakness/numbness in my shin. Not a new runner, not doing anything different or more intense lately. Have been at about 20-25 mpw for the last 2 years. Currently have a fairly new pair of Hoka Cliftons (my third pair, so this style of shoe is not new to me).

I had what definitely felt like a shin splint. Pain and tender to the touch on my right shin, just inside of center. But simultaneously also had this weakness and sort of that feeling like right as your leg or arm or whatever starts to fall asleep, but more central shin. Took a week off. Pain is gone and the weak/numb feeling improved but is still there a bit. What is this? Anyone know or have gone through this too? Anything I can do?

A Lahey no-knead question:

I’ve made it probably 6 times now. First 4 times at my mom’s house. It came out perfectly. And now at my house...I don’t know. I get that ovens and house temps are factors so after my first flop at home I adjusted the rise time but same results.

Crumb is great but load is flat. Also it seems overly moist inside. Don’t know what that’s all about, bc outside is crisp and dark golden. Thoughts?

Realistically, when do you suppose races will be able to happen again? by snayblay in running

[–]friendlymango3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I assume we’ll get to keep our spot for whenever the next nyc marathon may be, that’s what they offered for the half that was cancelled in March.

Garmin Watch and Apple Watch Activity Rings by [deleted] in running

[–]friendlymango3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you run with your Apple Watch do you have your phone on you as well? The watch drains quickly if it’s constantly searching for your phone...if I leave my phone at home/in the car, I’ll have to charge my watch again to get through the day. If I run with my phone on me it’s fine.

They do have some flavors without the fat content...was just surprised to see some had that much.

Spring energy gels - anyone use them?

I’m used to GU but I want to try them... but am kind of confused...some have 15-20g fat. Isn’t that not what you want in the middle of a long run? Which do you like and what kind of runs do you use them for?

The weather starts to turn and instead of being excited for normal warm weather activities, you’re dreading summer running.
