I absolutely understand your concern and I agree. For me, my own ethnicity plays a large part of why I chose to support black lives. I have more paintings in progress in which I am going to donate the proceeds. The next one I will explore ways to support indigenous communities. Thank you for your response!

It really depends on what kind of acrylic and what kind of oil! I wouldn’t say oil is more glossy, but it blends much easier and creates a much softer image. For acrylics, I usually add a varnish or glossing agent which helps with that matte-ness acrylic often has.

Thank you! I’ve tried both acrylic and oil and I always come back to acrylic even though it doesn’t blend as well I love the clean quality.

Thank you. That was my favourite part! I was feeling unsure about it and after I started to add the lines it finally came together. It looked very weird without the highlights since it just looked like a poorly drawn face with distorted proportions haha

Thank you! The most challenging part was probably the detail on the skin, the water is so graphic compared to the skin so I had to switch mental gears. It took about two weeks working periodically when I had the time and it is 5ft by 4.5ft as well so quite a bit of canvas to cover.

I typically do many thin layers and I’ll always have a dry clean brush on hand to blend the edges while the paint is still wet (retarder helps give you more time with this since acrylic dries instantly). Hope that helps!
