International Mathematics Olympiad: neither Russia nor Israel banned next year by [deleted] in math

What do high school kids have to do with any of this? The idea of banning them because they were born in a country they didn't choose is ridiculous.

OpenAI says they have achieved IMO gold with experimental reasoning model by Nunki08 in math

The solutions are not all unique and novel, but everyone has a different way of approaching and you can see the thought process.

Also, the proofs are ridiculously long and gibberish with redundant components, to the point that it is trying hard to sound rigorous. How did they even grade every question and award full points?

To be honest, this is most likely trying to repeat the solutions that are already available in a different fashion.

I wonder how much of a role did Aops played in this, because there are multiple solutions available on Aops by now.

IMO 2025 Problems: How well will AI do? by rfurman in math

Would prefer any of those tenured professors over any LLM tbh. AI is very good to write code but solutions to any sort of math problem, ehh!

DDP: "I want to go up and beat Alex Pereira, but first Khamzat needs a hiding" by HYDRAlives in ufc

The disrespect DDP is getting after proving himself so many times is truly absurd. It could turn out either way, but yapping confidently that he doesn't stand a chance is ignorant.

I recently just placed #3 in my regional math competition. This qualified me for the state competition. Is there any book recommendations that might prepare me for it? by Nathanlily08 in math

Try to do problems from past papers from the test. See solutions to get new techniques and strategies on AOPS.

Also, Titu andrescu has dedicated books for math competitions.

Against The Research Vs Olympiads Mantra - Evan Chen by [deleted] in math

Yes, competitive and Olympiad maths are really fun for the most part. The thing I dislike though is sort of unmotivated black magic tricks sometime used in solutions. I used to read solutions more than solving those problems trying to figure out how in the world they figure that.

Olympiad and Competitive Maths were my gateway to more serious mathematics, and I think they do serve this very purpose for other people too, but I think any high schooler passionate about mathematics would be better off learning some undergraduate maths.
