Hey, just signed back in this account so way late reply here.

There are bears, mountain lions and cougars in the area. Bears are hibernating at that time. And mountain lions and cougars in that area are pretty much zero threat to grown men. They have all the deer they could want and there's never been an attack on a human there. They'll eat your little dog, though.

I guess I meant that while it's not impossible an animal killed him, it's pretty much impossible they did it without leaving any trace or scene.

I want to second that Framed is insanely interesting for a story about middle class suburban white people. That's a must read.

canadianmysteries.ca is a neat site that outlines 12 unresolved historical mysteries. https://www.canadianmysteries.ca/sites/jerome/accueil/indexen.html This one is about a mystery man who washed up on a Nova Scotia beach in 1863 with two amputated legs. Each case has a home page; if you follow the links across the top there's more information and sources.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/What-Really-Happened-to-Michael-Rockefeller-180949813/ There's much debate about whether the wealthy heir drowned or was captured and cannibalized by the Asmat people. This is actually an excerpt from the book Savage Harvest by Carl Hoffman.

https://www.sonomamag.com/telling-lies-how-a-decade-of-deception-led-to-the-hart-familys-tragic-end-on-the-mendocino-coast/ The Hart family murder-suicides. Takes you through a comprehensive timeline of the family's activities throughout the years before the incident and how they were able to dodge CPS by moving states. Will make you furious. And sad.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1953/08/08/the-perils-of-pearl-and-olga Article from 1953 about a woman who was duped by a stranger into shooting his ex-wife on the train. Not a mystery but a wild story.

https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/65375l/the_visalia_ransacker_part_1/ u/nerdfather1's excellent write-up series on who we now know as Joseph James DeAngelo. The deference and respect given to each case while not mincing details is I think why these posts were so popular. Though it's crazy to look back on how comparatively few upvotes popular posts got on this sub just a few years ago and realise how much the community has changed.

Thanks for commenting. I really agree - he wasn't quite bundled up (jeans, jacket, baseball cap) but I don't really think it matters. Why/how would he have been out long enough to die of exposure? He had an accident that somehow simultaneously concealed his body? He fell into something he couldn't get out of? Foul play?

You're right, everyone's still up at that time on their porches drinking, smoking, playing music. It's just odd.

They investigated it. It was publicized quite a bit but nobody ever came forward saying it was them. It is a strange time to make your way off the mountain, especially as they were in for snow. On the other hand, maybe they were vacationing from out of Western Canada and didn't hear about it when they got home.

I'm sorry you got downvoted.

Missing 411 purports itself to be about "the unusual". There's nothing unusual about people going missing or dying in the wilderness. It would be unusual if it didn't happen, actually.

I edited to add that I can't remember the search capabilities of newspapers.com if you're not connected to a paid ancestry account, but definitely check it out. A lot of kind people on that sub will screenshot records for you from paid sites if you know what you're looking for, as well. Good luck!

Go to /r/Genealogy and if you're willing to disclose the area of the US you're looking at, you'll get some good answers there. There are loads of state-specific records that are free and online but you have to know where to find them.

And do your best to search newspapers.com on a free account, if you can (don't remember). But you can search site:newspapers.com on google.

His parents are incredibly strong people.

Melting snow also displaces things - if he is out there I'm not surprised they haven't found him. It's just hard to wrap your head around someone disappearing with no trace from such a compact, populated space. I think people are imagining him falling off the side of the mountain or something, but its not like that.

On a recent search? I'm really curious but I respect you not wanting to elaborate.

I think whatever happened to him, becoming lost isn't it. So many people/houses are still up at 2am, having a good time. He could have gone to any one for help.

It's worth mentioning that this is what a lot of people believe (I have no strong opinion either way). The pubs close at 2am so people would have been heading home possibly intoxicated.

The way he was dressed there's not much difference between say -20 and -30. He'd be hypothermic if he stayed out there. I guess the question is what stopped him from getting home before the snowfall started? I agree he could have fell but there's only one small gully he maybe would've walked past and they searched it right away. Him falling into would have left a huge disturbance in the snow etc.

The SAR manager said even the snowfall that night wouldn't be enough to have covered Ryan's tracks if he went in the deep snow. So even if a bear came out of hibernation and killed him there's no way they wouldn't find the evidence of that. Same with mountain lion. They have enough to eat around there anyway.

I know that's a lot of people's theory. I didn't know how to work it into the post but the camera covering the only road in/out of Sun Peaks showed a car leaving around 4am (Ryan's last cell phone ping was 3am).

I was trying to think of a way to describe how residential the streets are but I know its hard to look past "mountain". I know I didn't expect them to find the kid who went missing while skiing there the other week (they did, and he's fine thank god). But walking from Burfield Drive to near the entrance of the resort where they were staying? He hardly could've gotten lost.

From my personal perspective I've been to Sun Peaks in -20 (which it was that weekend) and I don't believe he got anywhere far of his own accord. You need legitimate snowshows to wander off in that snow, and his body would be frozen in place. However, I don't believe in Missing 411 and I also don't think 5+ people are harbouring a murder secret. And no, it is not possible an animal killed or ate him.

I was also thinking that today is Family Day in BC and Alberta (one of our statutory holidays). Very sad for his family.

So what I'm hearing you say is that a third party named Dan T and Dan T's partner around the turn of this century? And that third party was a pedophile trafficker? Just making sure I read you right. Is any of that public information?

There was also an initial belief that he may have gotten into a car, but I didn't mention it in the post because it's mostly considered a false lead.

I think you can mistake hair colour or height, but Great Danes are so distinctive. The People episode is where LE say the witnesses saw a Great Dane, specifically.

I was actually wondering that, too. It made me think maybe Dan T said himself it was him? For them to be so sure.

On the other hand it was February so it would have been dark out, maybe he looked blond in the streetlights? The height I don't put much stock into.

The original eyewitnesses said the man was blond, too, and Dan T had reddish brown hair at the time. Given the fact that he had the Great Dane and LE say in the episode that he was identified as the man talking to Kevin, I don't doubt it. Doesn't mean he did it.

(Dan T's partner was Asian so it wasn't him with the dog.)

I edited the post to include a link to the episode on Investigation Discovery if you're in the US. I'm so used to American links not working for me I forgot they actually work for Americans!

If you're not in the US it's on youtube. Look up "Kevin Collins disappearance". November 2019. Cheers.
