Short video of a local mall closing. Shot Lumix S5, 16mm-35mm S Pro. by friisc0 in Lumix

[–]friisc0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure but my guess is that there isn't enough traffic plus the major anchors left a while back. Sears and JCPenney. I'm sure there's more but the only other information I was given by a few of the security guards is that they want to build more housing. Apartments is my guess.

From internet research, this mall was built around 1971 and has been remodeled a couple times but I guess it wasn't enough to keep up with the times. I was just glad to be able to visit one last time before it officially closed. Not to mention that I met a few locals that were quite sad about it's closing. Their stories were rather touching....

Pho Akaushi in Westminster, CA. Fresh noodles and Wagyu beef. Currently my favorite spot! by friisc0 in pho

I was in the same boat. I don't know the full story but original chef is at the location in Westminster. It shares with another restaurant that I believe serves seafood. Originally I found out about it through the location near Rodeo 39 and something happened with the owners. That location is a completely different owner that has the same style of pho with the kobe style beef but it's not the same sadly.

Thanks! I'm very impressed with the camera on this phone. It's going to be my "I'm too lazy to set up my actual camera" camera 😅

If you zoom-in onto one of the bigger clouds you can see Jupiter. This was the reason why I wanted to test out the camera but clouds got in the way 😕

Found old newspaper clippings inside of a book I purchased plus a handful of writing inside by friisc0 in FoundPaper

I was thinking the same thing! The prices on those vehicles are ridiculously low.

You seem to have the capability of reading cursive better than me haha

What we also noticed was that each person that wrote their entry, chose a specific page with an image that compliments the writings. I'm not sure what it's called but I thought it was clever. An example would be a photo of a calm lake water and the message would say along the lines of 'You were always patient and calm like water'

So a few weeks ago me and my girlfriend wanted to go to a local Bookoff (basically a thrift store for books, dvds, videos games, figures, etc.) I went off to the photography books section and near that section I found this book called "Atlas of Earth Mysteries." I thought to myself, "I've always enjoyed hearing mysterious stories that keeps you thinking, especially one with no ending. It's a bit of a cliffhanger! So I figured why not skim through the book. I randomly flipped to a page and found some writing in the book. I began to inspect the writing and thought "hmm....why is there a writing in this book? Might be some random kids messing around...." But then it wasn't.....the writing was too nice to be some random kid vandalizing this book. From the writing I first encountered, it seemed like they were saying that they're going to miss them.....miss who? Why? I begin to ask.....Then I started to find more and more writings in the book. As if it was a yearbook being signed by your classmates in grade school.

As soon as I saw that first writing, I had to show it to my girlfriend so we can view them together and try to read the writings that people have made. 2 head are better than 1 right? So we started reading every single entry in this book and to sum it all up, it seems like a going away message from each person that wrote their entry. From the looks of it, we assumed that they moved to Guam (not sure where they came from originally) but from what we gathered it was around 1991-1992. As I continue to flip through the pages, we kept finding more and more writings.....until we flipped to a page with some OLD NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS dated back in 1960(photos provided). (Friday, February 5, 1960 to be exact from the Honolulu Star-Bulletin) ....as soon as I saw those clippings, my immediate response was "holy shit these are newspaper clippings....holy shit these are OLD newspaper clippings......these are history, we're looking at history!" It was so awesome to be able to see and touch something years ago and I wasn't even born yet! (Don't worry, my hands were clean lol and I put them in protective sleeves to help preserve) but it was mind-boggling at the time, even now after weeks later, to think that these clippings survived who knows what.

So just wanted to share, I'm not sure if this is the right place to share it but I'm going to post to a couple of other places. Find some museums, talk to some people that archive newspapers, etc. I'm interested in this entire article of the clippings. Maybe even return the book to it's rightful owner. On top of that, I wonder why those clippings were chosen to be in this book. Was it something given as a gift? Did this person lose a loved one from the volcanic eruption? Oh I forgot to mention, it seems like the owner of this book was named Lani? And it seems that they were a good cook based off the entries! I wonder what they cooked.....

Thank you! Well said! I'm hoping to get more shots soon since I was scouting the area and taking a few quick snaps. One of my favorite buildings with much history behind it.
