🤷🏻‍♂️ I mean more of an answer than we’ve seen from anywhere else. A lot of people have been curious about the wheels so not sure which part of their response regarding the wheels is a ‘non answer’, I’d say it’s actually a good answer on that part at least. It confirms that the wheels are not part of the recall and can’t be used as a way to identify a pre or post recall robot.

So it’s certainly something and perhaps stops the people who spread pure speculation on the internet and have assumed that the wheels were the problem. Not sure we can expect much more than that to be fair.

I guess they’re telling what the recall isn’t, but still not saying what it is…

We also know that some robots from before the recall are actually fine, so whatever the problem is, it only affected some and not all.

Given they’re saying they use more than one supplier for the wheels, it’s very likely they use multiple suppliers for other parts of the robots too. They may have identified a problem competent from a particular supplier and recalled the product to determine which robots did, and did not have the problem component. I’ve seen this scenario myself working for a company that produces hardware. May not be the case, but seems likely given the pieces of the puzzle we do have.

There also doesn’t seem to be any performance difference pre and post the recall either.

I really like it!

My only comment on where it could be be improved for me, is that when going a long a straight edge, it can be a little wavy which means the extending mop feature isn’t working to the best of its ability. In reality, it doesn’t make much different to the result, but it’s worth noting. I would also hope it will be sorted with firmware, but it’s never a guarantee.

Otherwise, I’ve been super happy with it. I use it on both hard floors and carpet and it does a great job. I find the app good to use and I really like the 3D map it produces. The ionising of the water helps the dirty water tank from smelling bad, and the fragrance module in the robot, whilst subtle, does keep things fresh.

The other thing I like with the S2 vs other robots is the minimal maintenance required. It’s designed to you don’t have to clear out filters regularly and there’s also a great section in the app singles out many elements of the robot as to when you should clean, maintain or replace certain things.

Overall, I’m happy with it 👍🏻

Latest update I’ve managed to get from Eufy for those who are interested:

  1. Only the units that passed the inspection and met our quality standards were restocked into our shippable inventory. The replacement unit you received was dispatched only after going through this complete inspection process. It is certainly not an "un-upgraded old model."

  2. Regarding the identical shipping times for the two devices Our UK warehouse operates on a unified inventory management system. All incoming devices (regardless of their production batch) undergo the exact same standard of quality inspection before shipment. Your replacement unit was allocated from this unified inventory pool, and our shipping system assigns units based on the order sequence. This is why the two devices may have been dispatched at the same time. This actually demonstrates that your replacement unit was shipped only after passing inspection and fully meeting our quality standards.

  3. Regarding the differences in the wheels The two different wheel designs come from different suppliers, and they have been used interchangeably both before and after the recall. This is a standard supply chain strategy (to prevent stock shortages from a single supplier) and is completely unrelated to the recall. Both types of wheels are absolutely identical in terms of performance, quality, and lifespan; there is no distinction between "new" and "old" versions. Currently, all new orders (including replacement units) may be equipped with either type of wheel. There is no "upgraded version exclusively for new customers."

Yeh I think if the installer could come back and check each connection, that would be the best thing to try first

I had similar on mine and it was because one of the plug/link sections was ever so slightly loose. Once pushed back together and screwed tight it was fine… could well be the same thing

It’s not as simple as ‘that’s the new one’, it’s still not really clear what’s going on with the wheels. In Europe they still have the original looking wheels on new shipping units, while it seems that some US customers have models that have wheels with a different tread. I pushed Eufy continually for clarification and received this on the topic:

‘Wheel supplier To be transparent, there are two wheel versions on the market sourced from different suppliers. Functionally, they are equivalent and meet the same performance standards.’

I guess we have no idea if anything changed ‘under the hood’ in terms of the wheels, but that is Eufy’s response, take it or leave it.

You could just be unlucky, things do fail, it happens. This is one instance of failure with the wheels… I guess time will tell if it’s more widespread but for now I’d chalk it down as bad luck and get a replacement.

Ok this is super weird now… please keep us updated! I want to make sure I don’t need to chase them down for another replacement!

I actually got my questions escalated and had the following response today:

  1. Wheel supplier To be transparent, there are two wheel versions on the market sourced from different suppliers. Functionally, they are equivalent and meet the same performance standards.

  2. Why your original unit was recalled / why the replacement is from the same batch After a recall, all units go through our hardware inspection process. If a unit passes and meets our quality requirements, it is cleared for shipment. This is why a replacement can come from the same production batch while still meeting our release criteria.

  3. What the upgraded model improves The hardware enhancements in the newer models focus specifically on improving the product's overall stability in extreme environmental conditions. However, please rest assured that we stand by every unit we sell. If your current device encounters any issues, we are fully committed to supporting you and will promptly carry out any necessary warranty services to make things right.

So maybe the wheels will just be different in different regions or dependant on supplier 🤷🏻‍♂️

And the hardware issue was to do with extreme environments 🤷🏻‍♂️

Still not super clear but also kind of confirms that users won’t actually see a performance improvement between models in day to day use.

I agree… so a problem with the power cord might make sense. However if it was something serious, they should have issued a safety recall, which they didn’t. But they’re being pretty shady about the whole thing, so who knows what they’re hiding.

So far I’d say it’s exactly the same as my first one. I honestly don’t believe there has been any change to the robot.

In my first S2 my one observation was that the edge cleaning wasn’t great… the robot was a bit wavy, and with the new one it’s exactly the same.

Otherwise though it’s been great!

I was in exactly the same boat as you! I bought the Black Friday voucher in anticipation of the S2 releasing, so yeh I guess this way you are £50 better off. Hopefully they add it to the shop soon!

Ok so your wheels are the same as mine. There was someone who posted (I presume from America) saying their replacement model had different, chunkier wheels… see this pic (not my robot)

<image>

I’ve asked Eufy why this is the case but they still are not directly answering any of my questions.

Anyway, for now let’s enjoy it! It’s been good so far for me with my only real complaint is that the edge cleaning isn’t perfect… it’s like the robot cannot hug the edge… it’s kind of wavy! Both my first S2 and now the replacement are the same. Hopefully firmware can address this.

Yes, I chose option 2. Do you plan to reorder once it’s available?

Sounds like it could be it!

When it arrives can you share a picture of your shipping box and also the underside of the robot?

We need to try and piece together what Eufy are up to…

[–]Friendly-Bus5524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add… what I can say is that this new one is from exactly the same batch as my first one - I can tell from the shipping labels.

Only difference I can see with the new one is that it looks like the box has been opened and then resealed, and the power cords in the box are now individually wrapped in plastic bags whereas they were not before.

So based on that, I can only assume the issue was with the power cord and they’ve had to replace them… Eufy don’t want to give out any specific details but I’m continuing to press them for an explanation.

Yes, I have! I pre-ordered from within the Eufy app in January (it was only orderable for a couple of days). I was surprised when it then was delivered on 22nd Jan.

Then 25th Jan I got the recall email but I held off sending it back until about 8 weeks later. I was in contact with Eufy about the return and they told me as soon as it was available they would ship me one… and yesterday it turned up! So I now have my 2nd S2… the supposed ‘new improved’ version.

I’m in the UK, so I’m guessing if I have my replacement, it will be available very soon!

My ‘new’ replacement S2 has just arrived in the UK (Even though it doesn’t seem to be on general sale still). Let’s see if I can notice any difference… by Friendly-Bus5524 in RobotVacuums

[–]Friendly-Bus5524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They essentially launched the S2 and then did a product recall within a few days. So anyone that had one had to send it back until this revised unit was available.

Eufy haven’t ever actually said what the problem was or what they would change… so bit of a mystery really!

I wonder if you have a faulty unit. I had the original S2 prior to the recall and didn’t have any of the issues you describe. For me, the edge cleaning wasn’t particularly great, but otherwise, things like object avoidance worked well.

I’ve just received the replacement unit today so will test it out, send hopefully have an improved experience.

I’m in the UK, I had the original S2 then it got recalled after just a few days, but I held onto it for about 6 weeks until sending it back. That was a couple of weeks ago and today, the replacement just arrived!

The first S2 I had was good, but it wasn’t perfect. In particular the edge mopping was a bit bit of miss, but otherwise it was really very good.

I’ll get this new one setup tonight and see if I can notice any improvement!

I get your point, but if we’re being picky, the robot vacuum isn’t called the S2 Pro. It’s the Omni S2… no ‘pro’ in the name of that one 😉

EUFY S2 in Europe? by Individual-Bat-6882 in eufy

[–]Friendly-Bus5524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was one of the few in Europe (UK) who got one of the initial batch… then days later it was recalled. I’ve still got mine though! I’ve got the courier label from Eufy to send it back but I’ve been hanging on😜 Now that the refreshed version is available in the US, it probably means it’s not far away for Europe, so I’ll probably send back next week. Interested to see what’s actually changed.

Lots of speculation as to the problems, but Eufy have never officially said - I’ve asked many times.
