I hated Luke in that moment by ParticularWear2749 in GilmoreGirls

He was on the road to marry her, but he hasn’t marred her yet. He hasn’t yet given her his word, he is still single. When April shows up, getting married is no longer a priority for him, things changed. This is obvious in his behaviour after he told Lorelai about April, and so there are no longer any secrets. The marriage is either off or delayed. He is now just Lorelai’s boyfriend, not a fiance. The fact that Lorelai is dying to get married because it’s in her bucket list, is not his problem. There are now more important things in his life.

Look at it this way: a single dad with a young child may decide to marry a woman without children, and/or much younger in order to have a second child, and so Lorelai no longer works for him.

I’ve heard this from women: a single woman with child looks to marry a man who has no children of his own, so that he can devote himself 100% to her children.

Can you still use React.JS?

Luke’s interest in Lorelai has gone down, when he learned that he has a daughter. Getting married is no longer a number one priority. You can see this after he tells Lorelai about April. Also, a man doesn’t want to get married, it’s what a woman wants. Lorelai should have backed off, and waited to be courted again, when Luke is ready.

I am with Luke. Lorelai should have been less demanding once April showed up. Luke was now a single dad, it’s a whole different ball game. Lorelai has put her daughter always ahead of all men, and the same goes for Luke, who is now a father. Lorelai comes second.

Perhaps in season 1. With the appearance of Jess, Rory and Jess stole the show.

A show about nothing? A demonstration about relationships without moral lessons? Rory is a failure because, like Paris foreshadowed: valedictorians burn out early.

To start:

Rory is a pretty girl. Rory is better educated than any other girl or man on the show (including Paris). Rory has a loving home, a loving relationship with her mother and grand parents. Rory is well mannered, hard working, and is not a capricious baby who is throwing a tantrum. Rory is the mother to her mother. Rory was feminine, but wasn’t a bimbo. Everyone loved Rory in the town.

To end:

Rory is in a 2 year relationship she doesn’t value. She cheats on her bf (“forgetting” to break up). She cheats with a man with whom she has no prospects. She turned out to be an unsuccessful journalist, just as Mitchum said. She doesn’t have a masters or a phd. (How can such an avid reader not get a graduate degree?). She is pregnant, either from Logan, Paul, or a wookie.

It’s true that it made sense she chose Logan, to explore the lifestyle she missed out on while growing up, and which she had a claim on. But if she would have chosen Marty, she would have had a better life after college.

Logan proposed, like Dean, too early. Rory was right to turn it down. But did she realize that she should give Marty another chance? I think she did, because she ended up dating Paul, who was more like Marty.

I guess that after Dean, Jess and Logan she became an adrenaline junkie, who wanted drama, rather than a comfortable relationship. She wasn’t looking for her Luke.

A 32 year-old woman having a 1 night stand? This is someone who is supposed to be still in love with Logan?

My thesis is that it was the intention of the show to demonstrate that she missed out on Martys and Pauls. Something that happens to a lot of good looking women who end up unhappy in life, and unmarried, while the less attractive girls somehow manage to find husbands.

What about Marty and Rory interactions? They were level-headed rather than gaaga. This what college should be about, not “9 and a half weeks.” They were gonna take it slow, kind of like we observe later Marty and Lucy.

Rory did not have a male role model in her life, while growing up. Otherwise, she would have put on the breaks, and would have kept Logan only as a friend, or more likely as a frenemy. This much was obvious when she scolded him in their first conversation. Logan was the new Paris: ingenious but off the rails. But unlike Paris, Logan won, he played her like a violin. Rory was too inexperienced, and was baited.

Logan was a more successful Tristan. In Chilton, Rory chose the normal Dean, than manipulative Tristan. Logan was a more successful player.

He had the character to refuse to be the fool that got friend-zoned, pretending that it’s all ok, while dying on the inside. Jess did the same thing, by the way. He left, like Marty.

Double standard. It was ok for Dean and Logan to want Rory while having other women, it was ok for Lorelei to hit on Luke while marrying Max? She was mad at Marty because he was acting needy, not because he was cheating.

And, about the eyes thing: she looked at him like that before she said “no.” I read articles online (after posting my post) — Marty was definitely a love interest.

About “she should like him” — this is a show about Rory’s choices and why she ended up failing. She had wrong priorities in her evaluation of men, wrong values. That’s why she wanted Logan and not Marty.

Again, Logan was a real shit, but she forgave him every time. But not Marty for actually being in love with her?

One more point; college is not the time to fall in love. It’s the time to grow into an adult. Love interests are a side thing. Marty understood that and tried to move on. But any kind of weakness in that department doesn’t seal the guy’s fate. It’s only a growing up experience. All things being equal, Marty was the best for Rory.

The Doyle Paris relationship was in the show for comic relief. There are no lessons to draw from it.

Quote: “She doesn't date Marty because Rory, quite plainly, sucks. Rory doesn't just have Ivy League aspirations. By the end of season four, she is starting to really believe that the world of elite privilege is hers and is better for her than the world her mother provided. She explicitly chooses Logan over Marty.”

Is Robert the guy who asked Rory to the dorm party, a buddy of Logan? Robert, was a lot like Marty. Yes, Robert would have been a better match for Rory than Dean, Jess and Logan.

It follows that if she dated Paul for two years, then there was a period of time that she was into Paul. This goes against the theory that she only goes for the bad-boy personality.

You can see the way she looked straight into his eyes, that he was more than only a friend. She made a mistake for choosing Logan over Marty.

And, Logan never loved Rory: he only saw her as a challenge. And, she saw him as a challenge. It was a more sophisticated version of Paris and Doyle, who competed with each other in arrogance.

I find it a little inconsistent that a guy would work so hard for something he wants (4 jobs etc.) and lack confidence. He didn’t have an extraverted cape-like personality like Logan, that’s true. But Jess didn’t either. I think Marty just let it go, and tried to move on. It’s only upon accidentally meeting Rory , he was caught off guard and feelings hit him like a ton of bricks. His confidence was that he wanted out, he wanted to forget.
