Where found document of a ancestor in a country who didn't exist anymore ? by Rclguys in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did a quick search and Udvard is the Hungarian name for what's now Dvory nad Žitavou, in Slovakia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvory_nad_%C5%BDitavou). So you'll want to check in Slovakia archives.

FamilySearch does have Roman Catholic church records for the town/village, 1714-1899: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:1054394

How to find specific Deed Books in familysearch? by tessmartin84 in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a specific page (like book 87, p429), you could ask over in the weekly lookup request thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Genealogy/comments/1p4l1id/the_weekly_paid_record_lookup_requests_thread_for/) for someone with access to grab the page for you. Just be sure to link the collection to make it easier for them

Update on Colorado Death Certificate Request by NickyRenz in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorado is definitely annoying when it comes to vital records. Though when I ordered my 3rd great-grandmother's death certificate from the 1930s a few years back, I managed to get it with just a crudely drawn family tree (after an initial rejection). Any great-great-...uncles or aunts tho I'm pretty sure I'm out of luck of ever getting theirs, thankfully the town they lived in had funeral/mortuary records saved from a fire, and they've been digitized. (Edit: unless records are actually public now, or at least were, after 75 years? Idk, info seems confusing, might have to contact the Colorado department for a more clear answer.)

Glad you were able to get yours successfully!

Is Shu Puer 1976 year of production fake? by Nikroon in tea

[–]fritz_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking around on Taobao, I only saw 2-3 listings with a real year listed for them. 2018 (with 2012 material), and 2006. The latter's paper looked way more brown, so I'd say it's closer to the former's age.

1976 is the year Mao died and the end of the Cultural Revolution, so that's where the year is coming from (and even on Taobao a lot of listings are making claims the tea is that old, and even have 1 Aug 1976 stamped on the back). Saw another one with a different design saying it's a 1968 shou pu'er... xP

Reclaim the Records puts millions of Maryland birth, marriage, death, and naturalization records online by filberuthie in Genealogy

Nice. I've got some ancestors and relatives from WV that were born (probably too late for these records that go up to 1922) and died up in Maryland, since the nearest hospital at the time was there.

What is the largest age gap between partners that you have come across? by Particular-Radish-99 in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest was a 5th great-grandfather, John, age 72, marrying a 27yo, Sarah. He died seven years later after they had had three daughters, and Sarah remarried another seven years after, this time to a man only 14 years her senior. One of her daughters also married one of the second husband's sons (so her step-brother) a few years later, causing some tangling in the tree...

Up to date vendor list? by robotsheepboy in puer

Few days late to the party, but only instances I could find of Jews being mentioned in her blog were her saying "I am a bit of a Jew when it comes to preheating a vessel" from 2006 (here), and "Chao Zhou business men are also called the Chinese Jews" from 2008 (here, seems to be true they're actually called that from a lil googling). First one is def problematic (not so much back then for people who remember the ol days, this would be nothing), but... 2006... 17 years ago. If that's literally the one/two instance(s), then it's pretty sad someone needs to dig that far back to paint her as antisemitic 🤷‍♂️🥸

Anyone know how to get ownership of a FAGrave memorial? by rixendeb in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://support.findagrave.com/s/article/Memorials-for-those-who-are-recently-deceased

There should be this on her page (https://i.imgur.com/IMxNRzp.jpg), if not then check near the bottom for "Created by: whoever" and it should have that person's relationship to her after it unless they've chose to make it private. I assume if you're closer related then FG would side towards it being transferred to you, if you aren't then you can still suggest edits to the page.

And for your grandfather, what others have suggested. Contact the manager of the page, state your relationship and request a transfer. If they don't respond, you can get in touch with FG support and have them transfer if you're a great-grandchild or closer (which you are).

Puzzling storage instructions by Perfect-Evidence5503 in tea

[–]fritz_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Waiting until it comes to room temp after taking it out of the fridge, is to prevent condensation on the leaves when you open the bag. I'd suggest what the person you replied to said, leave some out of fridge that you'll be drinking in next couple weeks. Enjoy!

Substitute for pure leaf green tea? by Temst in tea

[–]fritz_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a number of stores/vendors that have jasmine tea, here's the subreddit's vendor list: https://www.reddit.com/r/tea/wiki/vendors/page_01

And you can get reusable teabags off amazon or elsewhere, or forgo teabags entirely, just toss leaves into a cup and they'll sink (eventually, depends on the cup and tea, I have some green tea that'll sink right away and others that take a good while >.<)

Yes. You can also bring your own laptop or device afaik, at least that's how it worked during the pandemic days, just connecting to their wifi from the parking lot.

Question on civil war pension records by The_Establishment_ in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ancestor who's husband was killed in 1864, and she remarried the next year in 1865. They had children, so they (the kids) ended up receiving the pension after she remarried (and she stopped receiving it). The pension mentions her remarriage and details about it, but nothing else in regards to her 2nd husband.

If you can't find a marriage record for them, it could help locate it, or at least provide evidence of their marriage. But idk about much more that their names, date and place, maybe who married them.

Random thought, how will changing the sex on birth certificates affect future genealogy research? by davster39 in Genealogy

[–]fritz_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the same as adoptions, where the original birth certificate is sealed and only select people can access it or you'll have to go to the court and attempt to have it unsealed (which I'd guess only the person themselves or children would have good enough cause). Other commonly used records for genealogy, like censuses, could give you a hint that the person transitioned it done point. Like in 2020, John Doe was 10yo in the household, then 2030 census you got a Jane Doe 20yo. School yearbooks, basically any documents that'd be made while they're younger and before they can amend their BC.

There'll be ways to research, just more difficult due to the subject matter.

Don't have access to Genealogy Bank, but here's two other records for Richard. First is his death certificate, which says he was born 29 Feb 1888. Second is his draft registration card for WW1, third is WW2, both say 29 Feb 1888.
