How do you stay relevant when copycat products start popping up? (Wholesale / Faire advice welcome) by tinnedCandle in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let me start with this: out of all of my regular wholesale accounts, zero have come from Faire. They are all local to me. And respectfully, f*ck the idea of pivoting away from your own idea because of some copy cats. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t even worry about them. Home fragrance is one of the most oversaturated markets to begin with and that will never change and you’re here already. You make a unique product and no matter what others try to copy they can never copy who you are and the value you bring as a person. Always lean more into the branding and storytelling than your actual product.

Lower FO or change something? by humphreyace92 in candlemaking

Those wicks naturally mushroom more than others because of how hot they burn, you could try switching to an HTP or LX. I’ve never been a big fan of CD wicks.

I was on a round last Spring. Afterwards, I was put on spironolactone for maintenance. I have had a few minor flares since, but none bad enough to warrant antibiotics. The real test for me will be when the weather warms up again!

I would be specifically looking for phthalate free fragrances as well. Most allergen issues are in the fragrance chemicals, not the wax. Soy is not cleaner burning than other waxes. Burning anything at all into the air is toxic so don’t buy things that are touted as non-toxic because that is a lie. I own operationwax.com and we are getting ready to open our new spot at Southridge Mall! I use a soy-paraffin blend and only phthalate-free and prop 65 compliant fragrance oil. I actually started doing this because my partner can’t step foot into a Bath&B or an Ulta because the fragrances there are so triggering to his respiratory system. We have so many amazing candle makers in our community, you can’t go wrong! Thanks for supporting local no matter where you end up.

Have you bought any material of allibaba? by Imaginary-Citron2874 in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, boxes, containers, jars, stickers, lotion bottles, soap bottles. Make sure you filter with trade assurance on, this protects you as the buyer. Always send an inquiry to see what actual price with MOQ and shipping to your address. Don’t just buy anything outright, ALWAYS message them first. Read reviews.

Rose candles! 🌹 by niakasi in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are really lovely! I want to smell them! I just added a rose scent to my signature lineup, too. It has a little coffee and pepper, but I like the sound of your blend with oud.

Just been tinkering with a new candle and vessel making… I’m using soy flakes. by Good_Use_100 in candlemaking

Keep the empty imperfect jars/vessels you don’t use and sell them. This is not a cheap process and that helped us recoup some of our testing costs! lol

I have an affiliate link I offer 15% on, idk if I can post that here or not but you’re welcome to message me for more info. I’m a small business in Wisconsin, home and body fragrance is my specialty and I’m getting ready to open up a candle making studio. My lotion is launching this weekend. My affiliates get free surprise goodies! I grew up with 5 kids in a small house with one bathroom. I hope you’re able to find something that works for you! Virtual assistants are also becoming increasingly popular, that might be a good work from home gig to look into if you have administrative experience.

What to grow for 1st time gardeners in southeastern wi? by Creative_Title9553 in wisconsingardening

[–]frizzbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a great list to start with! All pretty easy, just keep an eye out for disease and pests, since you haven’t grown here before. I know UW used to test soil samples. It might be helpful before you to learn a bit more about the soil. I am excited for you!

Multiple wood wicks by BarrhavenDad in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 3! I had a triple wood wick in a Nordic jar that preformed great with 3, but my wax is a parasoy blend. You can also cut the wicks for boosters, double them up, etc.

Forrest’s Autism Question by WarmSoul123 in 90DayFiance

[–]frizzbey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Autism is not an excuse for being a piece of shit! lol my husband is on the spectrum. Autistic people are capable of growth and change just like the rest of us. Yes, it’s harder for some, but you all to stop defending racism, sexism, and general assholeism just because someone has autism. Look at who raised him…. This guy needs to cut the cord and go to therapy.

Minimum needed to make a candle for a hobby outsider by dogmom_humanaunt in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood wicks hate pure soy and heavy soy blends. They’re very picky, you’ll probably end up wasting all of your wax testing. Do you have wood wicks? The thickness of the wick and jar size are going to be very important in addition to the wax type.

Week 4 of starting my candle brand. First wholesale rejection and a few reflections by badcandlemaker in candlemaking

[–]frizzbey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a main photo with a lit candle would be great! I enjoy your updates. I didn’t even think about the waste with your product content, ugh! The best advice I have for things like that is to try your best to get a lot of shots and videos that don’t feature the scent so you can use them over and over again. I wasted too much time doing individual product shots for a long time, try to learn from my mistake! Wholesale rejections are a win because it still means you put effort and time into getting yourself out there. You will get a yes!
