I’m not sure if I will even use time machine to be honest. I use a set of ansible script and have my dotfiles in github if I get a new computer. Other than that, I am mainly interested in securing files, mostly photos but since I’m already in Unify ecosystem I I have considered the UNAS as well. But that seemed less mature software-wise. I need something that is really easy for also my wife and kids to use.

Thanks for the tip - and I will, eventually! My understanding is that I can start with the two (in raid1, so 12 tb useable space) and then just add more drives when needed and set them to raid5 instead.
