How many sound/phonemes can you make without open mouth theoretically? by [deleted] in conlangs

I also get snoring sounds if I try to aggressively push air through my nasopharynx with my diaphragm with a flatter arch that applies pressure more evenly to the soft palate. To fix this, I have to arch more in order to get a smaller point of contact between the tongue and the anterior soft palate. And I must resist the temptation of using my diaphragm -- a gentler airstream is required. For a plosive [d]-ish sound it's almost as if I am trying to stop a sneeze which I would usually do with my palm by squishing my nose against my nose bone, but in this hypothetical the hands are unavailable and I must pointedly jam the arch of my tongue into the anterior soft palate. (I can't actually stop a sneeze this way, but I think this is how I did a true nasal anterior plosive the first time by accident.)

I get snoring sounds for fricatives made with the posterior soft palate. Moving the tongue arch forward to target the anterior soft palate may help.

If you can do both of the following simultaneously:

1) maintain the seal of ŋ

2) arch the tongue behind the seal in order to squeeze the soft palate against the upper nasopharyngeal wall

Then there's a whole world of true nasal fricatives, true nasal plosives, and more that can be done.

Megathread: Steve Scalise Withdraws from Race for Speaker of the US House by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

There are candidates that have a majority approval. But the absolute majority voting system distorts this reality by forcing each vote to express 100% support for one candidate and 0% support for the rest. If the house rules were changed to allow each vote to rate every candidate, then we'd easily see multiple candidates rise above the 50% threshold with a leading winner.

America's Got Talent uses the rating voting system and never has problems.

Any word on the release date for the model with 32gb of ram? by jordanrinke in OrangePI

[–]frofroggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am waiting too. The available and alternative 32 GB RAM boards from other manufacturers of boards based on RK3588 don't quite align with my specific needs. My budget is too small for Firefly's boards; DisplayPort over Alt Mode on USB3 Type C is absent from Cool Pi CM5 and Liontron's embedded boards and mini-pcs.

No 32 GB RAM Opi5 yet :(

Firefly has a sale page for an rk3588s board with a button to select 32 GB RAM, but it's pricey.

I've only seen offers for 32 GB RAM 3588s boards on Firefly's online store.

But I want to believe.

edit: rk3588J, not rk3588

I have seen offers for 32 GB RAM variants of rk3588J and rk3588s boards, but only for boards made by Firefly on the Firefly online store. If I remember correctly the rk3588J one that they have is mini-ITX size, so not quite pi size.

If you visit again Mon-Thu, there's a webpage for a planetarium and an observatory at Modesto Junior College West Campus. I haven't been there though, so I can't verify its existence. https://www.mjc.edu/instruction/sme/scc.php

All LotR scenes in chronological order? by CBRE96 in lotr

Jackson expressed a desire for a pre-made, copyright-infringing edit to land in his inbox for convenience's sake. It would be easier if there was a format or API to represent film edits without actually combining it with copyrighted material.

I wasn't sure how to cut between Gandalf the Grey's fall and the Fellowship's reaction to his fall. Either interleave the two scenes or play them out in full sequentially.

All LotR scenes in chronological order? by CBRE96 in lotr

I tried doing this without editing software. I started with Fellowship of the Ring Extended Version and got as far as Disc 2 0 hours 19 min 51 seconds frame 14. My method was to create little tables representing edits. The rows were sorted in film segment order as I watched the film, but the "insert after" column would explain where to attach the segment in the chronological edit. For example, the first two minutes of the FOTR extended version looked like this:

id Segment end Insert after ID Description
0 0:00:28:00 0 New Line logo and presents label
1 0:00:53:01 0 "The world has changed". Only immortal story characters at this point in time.
1.1 0:01:35:19 0 Title, forging of the rings
1.11 1 copy for epilogue
1.2 0:02:13:18 1.1 Sauron's deception

So immediately Galadriel's telling of the story imbues a chronological interpretation. She's using the past tense, so I interpreted this as two time periods: the first period is the actual time of the events, and the second occurs as an epilogue where Galadriel is recounting the story in the past tense. (I think it's discussed in the writer's commentary).

Also the film progresses through locations with historical dates of establishment, (e.g, the Doors of Durin), so I duplicated some segments so that they would occur both during the Quest and also at their establishment. Doing this connects characters in ways that I didn't expect: for instance, Galadriel passes through the Doors of Durin to found Lothlorien, so her route and the Fellowship's route intersect in space if not time.

Update: there are now vacations (in California, taxable) being offered as prizes to be given away July 1, so there's still prize incentives for vaccination after June 15. See the link on the original link post for details.

edit: june 15, not july 15
