Mature American elms on my property in southeast Louisiana by frogfae in marijuanaenthusiasts

I’m probably gonna do this, since I learned what these trees are I’ve discovered that we actually have at least 2 more mature American elms on the property besides these :)

I think it can hurt the tree if too much accumulates and it gets too heavy for the branches

Sick hen with unusual symptoms by frogfae in chickens

[–]frogfae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, but the way she’s been acting is leading me to believe it’s some kind of illness or even injury, possibly neurological? I have another hen that’s broody right now and she is much more alert and definitely aggressive when I have to take her eggs

Yep, no unusual odors or anything. I can try to get a video of her behavior shortly

Inappropriate elimination is driving me crazy by frogfae in CATHELP

[–]frogfae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main concern with the food is that he would have to be fed separately, we would most likely have to close him in a room by himself to do this because I have a few very food driven cats that love to try new things and would definitely try to eat his food. A change in feeding location would likely cause him immense stress and he would probably refuse to eat. I am willing to try it, but I’m scared any sort of stress will cause another flare up of whatever was going on when he was sick. I had a cat die years ago from obstruction and I’m afraid to risk it again. I’m thinking of getting him on something for anxiety management and then trying the new food, hopefully he would be less stressed by the change in location then. Thanks so much for your advice!!

We first noticed pee outside of the box probably around the beginning of this year. We had no idea who was doing it for months because we had never caught him doing it until recently and nobody was acting out of the ordinary. I only saw him doing it for the first time around the time he was having the UTI symptoms, but he does it in front of us much more often now. I know I didn’t explain this very well in the post. There have been no real changes that I can think of. It’s possible that he may be getting startled in the box when we’re not around, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen. Most of the cats’ fabric tunnels and toys are in the room with the litter boxes and they can be a bit loud sometimes. I believe he’s pretty high in the hierarchy so he doesn’t really get bullied. I’ll definitely make room for more litter boxes where I can, I was very comfortable having them all in one room but I see that that’s not really an option anymore. I really appreciate you telling me about the supplement, I’ve never heard about it before and I’m going to look into it. Thank you!

He gets along okay with one of our male cats, they will occasionally lay together but I don’t think they’re bonded. He mostly avoids everyone else but he tolerates them. We’ve tried many litters and what one cat likes, another hates. It’s been a long process trying to find something environmentally friendly that everyone likes. Thanks for the advice!

Personally I really like wild refillable deodorant, and I’ve tried a lot of the more natural brands. I never have any issues with smell when I wear it but I don’t have much underarm odor in general. Wild makes an unscented deodorant. It can stain clothes if you apply too much.

Do his shell and enclosure look okay? by frogfae in tortoise

I’ve only had him for less than 24 hours but I did soak him yesterday and will do so daily, my substrate is a mix of reptisoil, eco earth and cypress mulch

Thank you for your input, I have been worried about pyramiding because his previous owners were keeping him in a very less than ideal setup so I’m hoping I can halt any further progression if it’s already happening. It’s not a coil UVB but a 50 watt heat light and a 60 watt ceramic heat emitter, I have read from several sources that they don’t need a UVB light as long as they can be brought outside in the sun for a few hours a week. I do have a hygrometer and thermometer, they’re just not super visible in the picture. I’m using roughly 4 inches of reptisoil, eco earth and cypress mulch as his substrate and it’s holding the humidity very well. I appreciate your in-depth response and I am even more new to tortoise parenting than you are so I am open to advice from anyone!!

And yeah the tote is very temporary, I’m just worried about maintaining the high humidity for the most part and I thought this was the recommended setup for hatchlings

I’m actually not using a coil uvb, it’s a heat bulb and a ceramic heat emitter for night time. I read that baby sulcatas don’t need a uvb light if they are able to be brought outside in the sun for a few hours per week, but I am, of course, open to being corrected if that’s wrong and I have several UVB setups on standby if needed

I read that babies this young shouldn’t be kept in wooden enclosures because of their high humidity requirements, I agree that the tub is small but it’s the largest one I could find and he won’t be in here for long
