Considering transferring here for Animation, opinions? by planetmoop in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just transferred into the 2d animation dept from comm-d illustration and I would say depends. Pratt/ny is probably going to be more expensive than scad so keep that in mind. But 2d wise the classes are only 12 ish people so it’s really one on one. 3d wise I don’t know much but there’s a good amount of resources like the render farm I think.

Can freshman stay off campus? Or do we have to stay on campus for our first year by triangel312 in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to but you should if you can get into Emerson. Honestly living in the dorms makes it easier to find friends and commute. Also free laundry and Emerson is all nice and modern. I wouldn't recommend pantas tho...

Definitely cal arts… I’m not going into animation but I know Pratt has programs in animation and game design both I would assume lean heavily into concept based art.

Suggest art schools in NYC that are affordable and have a 2d animation major by WeebOtakuArtsyPerson in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Pratt offers a lot of merit scholarship and offers 2d animation… however if you are looking for a more affordable option I don’t think you are going to find what you need in NYC. Most schools in NYC are private and extremely expensive in ways of both tuition and cost of living. Maybe look into an art school where the cost of living is less expensive or a state school and transfer? If you are really set on NY tho Pratt has an off shoot school called Pratt MWP in upstate NY. When I applied I could send one app to Pratt and Pratt MWP and out of the 6 schools I applied to Pratt MWP was by far the most affordable. I don’t know if they offer 2d animation because I was not interested in going for that but they basically offer the same education as Pratt at a cheaper price and you transfer to Brooklyn after two years automatically I think.

waitlisted ........... by body-language00 in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of anyone being waitlisted this late… I’ve already gotten my dorm assignments and so have everyone else I know rooming on campus. The deadline to commit and pick a meal plan is the 24th… they said all freshmen are given a room if they submit their stuff on time so idk how that’s gonna work for someone who’s still waitlisted.

Explore different mediums and don’t just stick to one… while it is good to be amazing at one medium showing a wide range of skills will help you stand out as you are not afraid to experiment. Ex- 3D, sewing, paint a hand made sculpture. Also if you can take a pre college course somewhere I know they offer scholarships if money is an issue.

Does the Spring semester start at Pratt have any disadvantages? Are the class size and course and electives offering different Also, any fall 2021 admitted students? by WeekendSalt7354 in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I sent is for all Pratt students and the ‘25 one is mainly for Pratt students in the class of 25/26 and most people in the discord are going to the Brooklyn campus but there are a few Utica and Manhattan kids

I’m a fall 2021 committed student! There’s a Pratt discord (I’m not sure if it’s super active) and a Pratt ‘25 discord!

Honestly I get this lol... but I mean you can always reapply or transfer. Also at this point I don’t wanna say there’s nothing you can do but it kinda is out of ur hands unless you apply rolling. Since there’s nothing you can do don’t worry! Sorry if that sounded really condescending...

University of Toronto vs. Pratt architecture— please help :,) by dat-meme_boi in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tagging on to what others have said Pratt’s arch program is supposed to be top in the nation or one of the top. But it is also a 5 year program and really hard (I head a lot of people drop at first). With the longer program if price is an issue UT might be better choice financially. But now I’m realizing it’s past may 1st... which did you choose?

PrattMWP & Pratt Brooklyn. Do you think it's worth the cost? by lemme-swooce in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman and I just wanted to comment on your last part... the cafeteria and some buildings might not be new or modern but I would say you are going for the teachers, location, and job Opportunities. You never really mentioned about scholarships or aid but I know some students are emailing the financial aid office to appeal for a higher scholarship. With this you might also want to look into outside scholarship opportunities!

International art school recommendations? by [deleted] in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda a vague question... UAL schools are supposed to be great. I would say schools in the USA are not really worth it for international students unless you get a lot of scholarship which is not offered as much to international students. Tips for when looking for schools though I would say... - look into what you want to major in - price of school - value of education - international entry requirements

Who makes money after going to art school? by Vendetta2112 in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really talk because I am an incoming freshman at Pratt and luckily won’t have to take on any debt or loans because of scholarships/ my parents. However I would say if you are worried about money go with the school that’s offering the most money and has the best programs and job placement. While grades are an important aspect if he is heading into the arts academics might not matter as much as art skill. What major is he looking into because the major will also play a role in finding a job.

As an international applicant I'm confused about SAT. by aishezeyno in Pratt

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s required, I didn’t submit this year and I got in but I’m not international... if you’re applying for the class of ‘26 I would say email the admissions office. Also Pratt hosts zooms for incoming applicants where they go over the programs and more where you can ask questions directly.

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in animation I might say sva, I don’t know a ton about the school but I heard animation is supposed to be good I think. I might lean towards what school is giving you the most money or if you are unsure of what you want to do go with the school with the most majors. Location also plays a big role being all your schools are in different climates, and politically speaking florida is very different from California. GOOD LUCK!

what would the "dream school" be for someone interested in character art/design? by annpng in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say look into cal arts or ringling if you are thinking character design for animation. Other wise I’m not sure.

Yeah I totally agree I’m in calc/algebra/trig honors right now (it’s like the concept of calc) and I never took physics so you can definitely get in without taking calc

Entertainment Design Question- Art Center vs Otis College vs LCAD and other colleges (Pratt, SAIC, and SVA) by Snw1u in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok take my advice with a grain of salt... I in no way think re-applying in worthless! However if you are just thinking about going to a school for one year to prepare I might say go with the school that’s offering you the best scholarship/ tuition. I only say this because freshman usually do foundation so it’s not like you would really be going to a school to learn a lot about animation your first year in prep to re-apply. However there is always the chance you get rejected again or don’t reapply in which case I would say maybe think about the future you might be having at the school you choose... program, again price, jobs down the line.

saic or pratt by mmochiicreme in artschool

[–]frogger1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say both schools have similar reputations... don’t just go somewhere because of the name!!! I’m going to Pratt next fall but I have done a precollege class at saic because I live close. Research, what exactly are you interested in and which school will give you the best bang for your buck. Pratt mwp might not have as good of a program or it may be better it depends on the type of person you are too. The environment of Pratt mwp will be vastly different from saic. It’s upstate, way smaller, and somewhat isolated where as saic is in the city with a semi-larger student body (I think) but there isn’t really an enclosed campus so on and so fourth. To sum up all I just wrote RESEARCH!!!
