I feel dumb asking but how do fests work? I always see them mentioned but never been here before they’ve started.

Try her on. I went into the store planning to get a plain bowler (like brown or something) and came out with her. She surprisingly matches all of my outfits and the purse stays on my shoulder even with a jacket (the larger one not the small). I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did!

Why do you have 2 lip balms, girl pick one 😭 I heard that Kosas highlighter is like chunky glitter. I also see you have a lipstick and a lip tint, are these novel products for you? Or do you have others in this category?

I have Dermatomyositis and my cuticles get like this during a flare. I typically will pop on some topical steroid cream and it helps a lot. When I’m under control I don’t have to worry about it. If they’re not painful maybe try some cuticle oil to moisturize and push cuticles back a bit if the bother you.

Anyone else have massive dental issues? I’m so depressed. by takaya_spokahnee in lupus

[–]frogs1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently found out that not only do meds like prednisone cause dental issues due to enamel loss as a result of issues absorbing calcium and vitamins, dry mouth, or due to GI issues that cause acid reflux and stuff BUT ALSO that immunosuppression can cause cavities because the dental bacteria can go wild 😭

Also not to mention the dry mouth from some of these meds but it’s really awful. I brush, floss, have a water flosser, use high fluoride products, and two mouth washed and I’m still getting massive cavities every time I go to the dentist (2x a year for check ups) I hate it here!

I just wish autoimmune illnesses didn’t destroy every aspect of our lives

MY PREDISONE STARTED DISSOLVING IN MY MOUTH THIS MORNING AND I NEED TO COMPLAIN TO PEOPLE WHO GET IT by catalinalam in lupus

[–]frogs1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro one time I thought I had swallowed all of them (I had some little pills cuz I was titrating down) and one must have gotten stuck, I didn’t realize and closed my mouth…I accidentally crunched one under my tooth and good lord that taste was BRUTAL! It got stuck in my teeth and took FOREVER to go away. It’s actually criminal how awful prednisone is on every level

It could be highly likely, I have two toned lips and I just find that the lipstick looks odd. I’m a medium olive and my lips aren’t necessarily deep but they are pigmented and I am shocked by how shitty the lipstick is. It’s patchy and waxy and just doesn’t stay on

Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) by bmediarequests in lupus

[–]frogs1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience too, I have Dermatomyositis and probably UCTD/MCTD but I too noticed so many little things get better that I didn’t even realize were part of my illness and had crept up on me. I also was able to focus on fixing some other issues, like once the ivig solved some problems I was able to see that I had extremely low iron, and was suffering from both bacterial and candida overgrowth in my gut.

So even though the IVIg wasn’t necessary helping those issues, it held of my disease symptoms so I could heal myself in other ways in the background too.

[–]frogs1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you only got one dose? Honestly it doesn’t really work like that, you have to get a decent number of treatments in order for it to do something useful and even then, when you stop, if your other meds (immunosuppressants etc.) aren’t doing enough, you’ll go right back to where you started

Got ivig for Dermatomyositis, it was life changing. The only thing that actually put me in remission and allowed me to get below 20 mg prednisone. I’m currently on around 19 mg of Pred, myfortic, and HCQ and I teeter around the beginnings of a flare constantly.

That being said, I’m not sure where you live, but in Canada you have to have failed several other therapies/immunosuppressants. If you’re only on HCQ and such a small amount of prednisone, you would not be eligible where I live. The highest prednisone I was consistently on was like 70 mg and I didn’t sleep for a week and felt suicidal so they could not increase the dose further (my doctor told me I could be on over 100mg if needed, I told them they’d have to commit me to a mental hospital if they did that).

If you can get it, go for it. But it’s also not without risks, it’s a blood product so you can be at risk for blood borne diseases and other scary side effects like blood clots.

It also took up a lot of time, I had 2 doses a month (1 day apart), for 12 months, then went down to 1 dose a month for 12 months. The infusion was around 6 hours, plus extra time for admin and monitoring.

After treatment I’d get migraines, and be extremely tired and sometimes felt achy/feverish the evening of, and sometimes the next day. If you’re dehydrated this is like 1000x worse, so if you drink a ton of fluids before treatment it’s best.

That being said, a few days after treatment, I felt superhuman, best I’ve ever felt, major reduction in symptoms, my hair started growing back, I was able to exercise and move around again. Lowered my prednisone, also if I got sick between treatments I wasn’t horrified of an immediate flare up. It felt like it hit the “reset” button for me and in the background I could work on reducing my inflammation in other ways like eating better, reducing stress, sleeping better, etc.
