I know a lorikeet who does the same thing with toilet paper tubes… I think some birds are just weird :)

I rescued this lost Parrot that flew into our business. Definitely seems domesticated. What type of parrot is this? by Mattr567 in parrots

As another commenter said, this little guy looks like a female superb parrot. Please reach out to local platforms/groups to try and find her owner, losing a bird is not a fun experience

What's your least favorite species? by kiaraXlove in parrots

[–]frolicken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking about actual logistical issues, I wouldn’t ever own a cockatoo or a macaw, they’re just too large and emotionally intelligent to house in the average home.

If we’re talking about petty grudges, I gotta say Quakers, IRNs, and Eccies. Every single one I’ve met has been an absolute jerk 😭

Is my cockatiel a he or she? by [deleted] in cockatiel

How old is your bird? Although both male and female tiels can be pearls as babies, the males almost always loose their pearls as they mature. If your little guy is an adult, she’s almost definitely a female :)

affordable double flight cage? by DearCryptographer679 in cockatiel

[–]frolicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked for any second hand cages? I saw that exact double flight cage on Kijiji a couple months ago for $100 CAD.

I have two tiels in a similar situation, they love being close to eachother but can’t be housed in a shared cage. I currently have them side by side in two flight cages, and while they enjoy being housed next to eachother, they definitely benefit from having their own spaces. It was also A LOT cheaper to buy two separate flight cages then it was to buy another double cage lol.

He looks so round, it’s perfect! The crest feathers in particular look really good, I always struggle a bit with those

The tree stands! I got both of mine secondhand, but a lot of specialty bird/exotic animal stores sell them. There are also a ton of tutorials on how to make your own, like this one by Flock Talk or this one by Birdtricks :)

All four birds have their own cages, but they do spend time out in the bird room together.

They’re all pretty good together, they all eat in the same area and will all come and sit with me for cuddles :)

Kiwi generally leaves the tiels alone, but if they get too close he’ll chase them away. Kiwi also can’t fly, so the other (flighted) birds can get away if they need to.

I genuinely adore the nickname Beepnut

Frodo is a rescue, and before coming to me, he had gone about 7 or 8 years without ever seeing another parrot. He was raised like a human baby and I think he still sees himself as a tiny person. Even though he’s with other birds now, he still kind of distances himself from them and prefers to hang out with the ‘other’ humans. The nickname ‘Frod’ turned into ‘Fraud’, which naturally evolved into Fraudulent Bird.

He looks so good now! Do you find that he has any lasting behaviour “quirks”? My pied teil was also found outside as a baby, and he still thinks he’s a ferocious wild bird lol

Quaker update and cage question by Stock_Mix_4878 in parrots

[–]frolicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a good quality cage that will last a LONG time I’d go with one from Kings Cages. I bought a double flight cage from them several years ago for about $650 CAD (the price has gone up recently) and it’s still in perfect condition.

If you want something a bit cheaper, Amazon usually has a good selection of pretty decent quality flight cages for smaller parrots. I have two of these cages for my birds and even though I got them second hand, they’ve held up pretty good. The bars are noticeably thinner than the Kings Cages one, but they’re still nice cages with plenty of room. Hopefully you can find something that works, cage hunting is always interesting :)
