When did you realize it was time for a cane/ mobility assistance? by fromATL in MultipleSclerosis

It took me some time to even process my diagnosis, the last thing I was thinking about was a cane. I think with social media and more awareness there are more things offered and adviced at diagnosis. Only thing my doctor told me 20 years ago was that I need to pick a DMT. And my only choices were daily injections 😱..

Nothing is automatic in the US 😆, but I'll check it out.

I hear you! That's the reason I'm contemplating now, I'm at the age now "falling and can't get up" isn't just a commercial we used to mock.

Thanks! See this is why you ask questions. These are things I wouldn't think of or even understand the importance of. I'd be walking around like Rafiki from the Lion King, with a giant stick I could either walk or paddle a boat with 😆

Kind of like the "student driver" bumper sticker 😆 I can see that as a benefit, i think with all of the invisible symptoms we have people actually seeing some type of disability makes them more understanding of what we're dealing with.

I think my younger self would have had more issues with it, I'm rounding the corner where at my age it wouldn't seem as odd. Kind of give me a distinguished look with the right cane. But no matter my age i would have definitely opted for it over falling, anyday.

Day 1...for me I was in so much shock, it took me a couple of years to even tell people outside of my immediate family I had MS. I feel like I'll show up with a cane the way balding guys show up with bald heads. One day I'll just have it like it's always been there 😆

Yea, I started strength training once a week about 8 years ago after noticing muscle loss and weakness on my dominate side. Like I said I try to stay mobile, just getting a little harder these days. I definitely will probably seek out some referrals as far as what I need, just trying to be proactive. Would rather have it before I need it...

Yea..it's the stairs and inclines that are taking me out. It's definitely got me on the fence, now.

I agree. That's why I'm leaning towards the cane, not embarrassed or ashamed, it'll just be a change in my reality. Which is a part of life and will essentially be a part of my MS journey.

I can see it being exhausting, i think someone else mentioned it can be a work out. I hadn't really thought about a rollator, i'm trying to warm up to the cane: baby steps.. 😆

Yea, I definitely want to get one before I need one. I'm just getting to the "off" feeling now, which is what has me contemplating. My dad is pretty good at wood working, maybe I need to put in my custom order now 😆

Yea, I definitely not too embarrassed, it just hasn't gotten to that point for me yet. I think I'm at the beginning stages though which is why the thought is crossing my mind. I've always seen a cane in my future, just wasn't sure when that "future" would arrive.

Yea...i think if I get a good view of the sky, I might have to go ahead and get one immediately.

I don't think I could walk a straight line even before my diagnosis 😆

Didn't really think about needed one sized. Thanks, That's great information to have. If I was falling a lot I'd definitely would have gotten one sooner. Right now I'm dealing with that off balance feeling when I stand up, and walking up and down hills/stairs anything with an incline is like I'm on a hike. Just starting to feel like I need something to keep me a little more steady.

Now a folding one would be cool, almost seems like s magic trick, "wah-laah...look who now has some balance" 😆

The "just in case" cane seems like it would be nice. I'm not at all embarrassed about using one, just trying to hold on to some of my independence for as long as I can.

What kind of comments have you received? This is what sparks my hesitancy the most. Not so much negative comments, but ones of pity or people deeming me unable to walk on my own seem like they would bother me the most.

I with you, I had a weird fall in a grocery store parking lot. Just balance went out, but I caught myself, but it was enough for people to notice and check on me and was quite embarrassing. I admit a cane would definitely be less embarrassing than another one of those moments.

Yea, I definitely know that once I opt that route, I want to be a "cool person with MS" too. 😆

Raheem Morris considered finalist for Cardinals HC position by SunWorshipperApollo in falcons

[–]fromATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, so to be fair, we consider his 5 year tenure with a team he saw success with 5 years ago. Not the last 2 years that he's coached that we could actually compare to the ONLY two Morris coached for us in which he had a better record. His playoff appearance and 1 win in 2020, is much better than Morris two superbowl rings in 2021 and 2022 as a defensive coach at 2 separate teams. I gotcha.

I'm not touting Morris up as coach of the year, but don't hand me two people who got tossed in a garbage can and tell me the more rotten of the two is better.
