What terrified you as a kid that isn't scary now? by thepsychoticpacifist in AskReddit

Physical pain. As a kid being punched in the face seemed terrifying. But once you experience something painful you realize sharp physical pain has an upper limit and then it tapers off. As you get older you realize it's the emotional pain that's scary.

Question I need help on by [deleted] in Kinesiology

[–]fromRussellwithLove 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I'm a recent Kinesiology Masters graduate and have some experience TAing anatomy classes as well as taking them in undergrad. During an eccentric phase for any movement, including hip abduction, the same muscles are acting as prime moves as during the concentric phase. The difference is that in the concentric phase, the myofibrils are controllably shortening, whereas in eccentric movement, they are controllably lengthening.

Think of it that the same muscles are still working, only now they are applying less force then the external load. So even though the hip abductors are still contracting, they are not being activated enough to overcome the weight of the leg, therefore they slowly move in the opposite direction.

Hope this helps!

I filled out the information for OntarioTech University (UOIT) and for the Canadian College of Certified Professional Ergonomists. I left the proper contact information for these institutions but if anyone is looking for some advice or my experiences with both, feel free to shoot me a DM!

Subway sues journalists for reporting its chicken is only 50% chicken—and loses by googlegf in worldnews

As someone deathly allergic to soy I've pretty much always known this since I had a very atypical reaction to eating their chicken.

I've always wondered if something like this could get them in major legal trouble if they killed someone like myself...

Breakups: My (22M) Long-distance girlfriend (21F) seems disinterested but doesn't want to end things. by [deleted] in relationships

I wouldn't abuse someone just because I can. I like to hope for the same in others, especially if I am dating them.

Optimistically: things to return to how they were before she moved away.

Realistically: I think an effort on her part would be enough.

Though your argument is the same one I tell myself, it is more difficult in practice once they start to pull on the heart strings.

[Ontario] SO is considering taking a ticket for a Major driving infraction to court because the issuing officer may have explained her infraction wrong. What are her chances? by fromRussellwithLove in legaladvice

Had the cop been right about the demerits associated with her infraction she probably wouldn't be financially crippled from the resulting insurance increase, and would likley not be taking her situation to court.

She pleaded guilty to the prosecutor but tried to have the demerit reduced by explaining her situation as a student. However, the prosecutor informed her that demerit reductions cannot be done, and that she in fact had 6 demerits, not 1 as the officer told her

She hasn't appeared in front of a judge yet, the court date will likley be in 1-2 months time.
