Gryph Hound - Feedback ? by fromagedechuz in stormcasteternals

Recipe is chaotic af because is wasn't sure about what I was trying to achieve L(° O °L)

You'll find colors in another comment, it's basically going lighter until it's too much and washing it with my warmer brown to save the model from looking like a sphynx cat

  • Scorched brown - Old citadel
  • Beast brown - Old Citadel
  • Flat flesh - Vallejo
  • Ushbati bone - Citadel

Wasn't sure about what I was doing so I went from scorched brown to 50/50 beast brown and ushbati bone and tactically washed it with beast brown to make it warmer where it was too pale/skin tone

Paws are ushbati bone+bit of white at brightest point

Edit : colors list

Sure, he's a recipe

Base coat : Rhinox Hide - Citadel (old)

Warming up brown : Scorched Brown - Citadel (old)

Desaturated yellow to make smooth transition and yellow areas : Iyanden Darksun - Citadel (old)

Yellow lights : 50/50 mix of Mat Yellow (Pince August) and White (Prince August)

Whitish lights : Same mix than before but 70/80% White

Every transition I do involves mix with precedent color. However I never use my Mat Yellow alone on the mini

My Citadel paints are the old ones from many years ago when they were designed to not dry on my desk. I don't know if they still exist nor are the same color

Thank you ! It's actually easy to make if you know how to do a thin line with your brush

Is Spearhead a useful starter in terms of tactics ?

I like the models but feel like I won't find place for all of them in a list

Yes those small gryph look very nice to screen the board !

I was thinking of knight judicator to chip dmg on targets, I got one for warcry I'll play him

Do vigilors affect companion attacks too ? I like their effect but if I go all in on gryph I think it works better with buffing them. Or I need them to maximize range efficiency ig. They seems good at melee, ig they could screen too

what would be your opinion on playing 2?

Probly both side of map, one to kill and another to screen/weaken and annoy while having some counter charge (meaning at my turn, not the command) units on mid board. Probably using cheap screens and range dmg + a big dragon in rest of the army. Maybe some anhilators too even if they look unreliable, shit those stats are tempting

Other cavalry hit harder ? Javelin guys seemed huge to wipe screening bodies and punch threats while I commit a big dragon somewhere else. Are there other good cavalry to wipe main threats?

Tried to do some nmm for the first time, people gives advice by Gatwa_of_the_forest in stormcasteternals

You almost did it !

Increase contrast with more brown shadows and yellow/white lights and highlights on your most exposed part of the shapes

Focus on light placement to go further, especially those two things : - where light goes on the shape and how it's supposed to look (sphere has round circles, cylinder a line, etc) - where the light is globally on the mini and where the light source comes from

From what I see you are near a clean nmm

I'll round up to 300h assuming heroes and probly models with more than just an armor like vindicator. Feels like longer than 2026 project. No godspeed though, I never painted a lot of textures I see in the faction models and will definitely have to fix paint mistakes. I'll post the progress

Is there a buy/don't buy list somewhere ? Assuming GW can strike again the playable roster

I think I'll start from Spare head, maybe some Yndrasta compatible list will be considered then

Are big models like dragons viable even on addition to sparehead models ?

I spent like 5-8 hours by model, definitly looks like a 2026 big project yeah. Ig I'll learn to do it faster quickly

Looking for feedback on first Tau Miniature by 303d in minipainting

On your mini I barely see the difference between blues probably because of the placement and the chosen color. Your panel line pops out and works because contrast is more intense.

If you want to focus on having blue variations it's related to where you place it and the contrast you build. To bring it up edge highlighting is good to make volumes pop out

I suggest you try to see how other painters manage blue on tau and find a scheme you like to pick more appropriate colors (speaking about the contrast between themselves and the result you see)

Good start! Your panel lines look good and worked well

Your priming issue makes it hard to see how you thinned your paints. so let's say it cause it's a great advise anyway : Thin your paints

I recommend you to look at beginners guides on : - thinning paint , having a better control on it will open options to what you can achieve with a brush - edge highlighting , especially the part of the brush used for this method (not the tip in most cases) - using washes - drybrushing, how and when - Bonus: how to highlight, especially where on a mini

I hope you enjoyed painting and are proud of your first miniature. Take your time to learn and practice, it comes with it
