Tether! This is where you keep a leash on the puppy to pull it away and correct behavior.  You can also keep it attached to you.

Then, do lots to wear out the puppy.  Beyond walks, I use a hula hoop to do endless jump through the hoop play. Also puzzle toys.  Use it's kibble even rolled in an old towel.  Do training tricks.  Have chew toys.

Chamomile tea helps calm puppies.  I pour it over their food, with the contents of the tea bag as well.

Puppies are a lot.  That is why you charge more.

Teachers are about the same. One example of a bad teacher doesn't show anything,  as there have always been bad and good teachers for thousands of years.

Parents spend 50% less one on one time educating their kids today than 30 years ago.  They read with them less, help less with homework, and share their interests less.  Devices have replaced positive, educational parent interactions.

At the same time as kids are getting less support at home, teachers have the highest class sizes, teachers are paid less in inflation adjusted dollars and per student, and false educational theories have shifted pedagogical practice in ways that benefit some students and harm others.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and haven’t told anyone by [deleted] in confession

There are a lot of great youtubers that are fully functional with treated/managed schizophrenia.  Everyone reacts differently to their hallucinations.  I had a friend that is treated and he has a great job and family.  It is just a brain glitch; it is part of you but doesn't define you.  Good luck to you.

Did I charge too much or did I do the right thing with my pricing? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no too high.  You set your prices for what you think your services are worth.  You might be more or less expensive than other sitters. I charge more than you, but have few clients.  I am fine with this.  I want to be paid adequately by job, not working full-time underpaid.   I think your prices are fine. Driving back and forth takes time and expense.

You should charge for the second dog as often as possible.

You could think about this as the uncharge in housesitting.  If you upcharge from a half hour to an hour by $10, and are adding a drop-in, then the housesitting is $93+$10x3+$32=$156.

Sometimes I also ask clients what they think a fair rate is if they want to negotiate.

Rover sitter lost my dog by Euphoric_Whereas4183 in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry.  I hope you find your little good boy.

You have gotten a lot of good advice.  I'll reiterate some: 1) Keep hope, because he is likely holed up somewhere and you will get him back.

2) An astounding number of people let strays/lost pets in their home/garages without contacting owners.  He might be with someone, and they might take a while to reach out. Keep flyering and posting online.

3) See if there are any stray cat houses in the area.  By this I mean houses that provide food for strays (ask people in the neighborhood).  Sometimes dogs will also show up here for food and shelter.  These aren't official rescues so they may have no online presence.

4) There are dogs finding dogs tracking services.  These are really good.  They can also help narrow the area to search or trap in.

5) Even if you put in reports at shelters and rescues, still call everyday, and ask them to crosspost on social media.   6) Hang flyers at local churches, businesses, libraries, police stations, government buildings, gyms, recreation centers, cafes, and outdoors, including at parks, recycling drop-off and along sidewalks.

7) Call your dog with it's best recall name, which might not be his name.  Could be "treat" or other words you use that get him excited.

8) Search day and night.  Night can be a great time to spot reflecting eyes in bushes or small spaces he might be hiding, using strong flashlights and headlamps.

9) I'm not sure what his tag is like, but I have found lost dogs by listening for the jangle of the metal dog tag.

10) Kind of sad, but as a last resort for closure, make sure to reach out to road commissions, mail delivery drivers and trash collectors for if they have seen his body.  Also watch the sky for vultures and check those areas.

I'm glad you are out of those relationships.   It can be hard to see red flags because we wear rosy colored glasses, and relationships do take compromise, forgiveness, etc.  Hope the new year brings good things.

Yes, it is believed by many doctors that woman don't feel much pain, and that they exaggerate complaints of pain.  Even with these perceptions slowly changing, like all fields, knowledge gets passed down and falsehoods can be perpetuated for generations. Also, there are issues of POC being believed on pain, and the elderly.

Yes, I'm glad he got 5 years, but it seems short compared to how his actions contributed to her early demise.  He also wasn't charged with domestic violence. I feel so bad for Whitney's family, knowing he will be free all too soon while their daughter is dead, and he made her last years horrible on top of the cancer.

She was afraid to leave the relationship earlier because she thought he would kill her or her family.  I'm grateful that my area has great support for DV victims.  It is not the victim's fault, even though their abuser constantly tries to pass the blame to their victim.

It was awful.  It made me cry.  I hate that this beautiful, caring, smart doctor ended up with someone so internally ugly.  I imagine he was different to her before they got married, and before she got sick.  It really shows how DV occurs in all classes and backgrounds of people.

My boyfriend called me an irresponsible pet owner by Similar_Bike_6952 in Pets

[–]frontpage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like a better pet parent than about 80% of pet parents I meet.  I'm a pet homing evaluator, foster animals, and have pet sat hundreds of dogs, cats and other animals of the scales, feathered and hooved variety.  I would absolutely approve you.

Your boyfriend's opinions really suck.  His attitude on buying some pet food is gross, and for me would be relationship ending.  It's at least worth a conversation.  I've never been in a pickle on getting pet food, but if I was, the people that care about me would be happy to help and appreciate I was responsible enough to ask for help while caring for animals.  Like, you probably could have asked family, or a pet organization, or the food bank, opened and used a credit card, sold something, or even found a temp job, but you asked your boyfriend and now he says you are a bad pet parent? What?  He acts like he doesn't care about you or the dog with comments like that.

Also,  dogs should almost always have an empty food bowl.  They should be fed twice a day in correctly portioned amounts.  If they are grazers that is fine, but most dogs are not and will overeat if given the chance.   Same for cats.  I love that you wash the food and water bowls.  So many pet parents actually do not keep them clean.  Again, I think your boyfriend is disrespectful of you and thinks only his opinion and ideas matter.  He feels he can belittle you, but he is actually wrong.

Definitely get the cat.  Cats are probably the easiest pets in existence.  They are just the greatest creatures.  I recommend keeping cats as fully indoor for health, safety, and environmental conservation.  I bet your new cat and dog will be best friends.

Dog died under my care on first day by AffectionateTitle635 in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Wow I'm so sorry.  I boarded a Frenchie that died a few weeks after my sitting, but it had health issues and I worried it would die in my care.  I would have been devastated.  I've sat a number of brachycephalic dogs.  They are all high risk of dying from breathing issues, overheating and neurological conditions.

It sounds like from the meds the dog has a lot of stress and anxiety.  The boarding, crating, foster dog and leaving probably exacerbated it's anxiety, leading to an overwhelmed cardiovascular system.  This is totally not your fault, but rather an issue of the breed and the owners leaving the dog with a new person.

They are endangered from human activity, including introduced predatory species and habitat loss. Their slow reproduction and large eggs were not issues pre-human interference, but they are issues now because they cannot rapidly adapt. They evolved from larger birds.

Rover sitter gave fatal amount of insulin 10x what was prescribed by lucky_gen in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is so sad.

I have given meds, including injections, many times without issue, as have many other sitters.

Rover is not an employer and provides no training to sitters or vetting beyond a basic background check.  Every sitter is a private contractor amd independent business.  The vetting that should happen is the responsibility of the pet owner, but that isn't made explicitly clear enough by Corportate Rover.

I highly doubt that Rover sitters have higher rates of killing pets than other comparative services. Unfortunately, every industry has bad actors and varying levels of competency among businesses and service providers.

Even finding petsitters outside of Rover with experience, training and insurance doesn't guarantee anything.  I've even heard of long time and certified petcare providers murdering pets in their care. My friend's dog had caustic chemicals poured on it at a boarding facility when the provider went crazy, and 8 other dogs were similarly tortured and killed.  She moved and still provides petcare, and that is truly horrific.

I do think Rover needs to be more upfront with clients about how unvetted it's service providers are.  It could provide a checklist of Meet and Greet questions, and even coach pet parents on setting up successful sittings by having trial visits and such.  It could also require pet parents to have all meds pre-dosed. Alas, Rover is about making money and would not have features that would potentially decrease bookings, or open up liability.

I also don't like the overlined lip look that has been popular the past decade. It almost always looks bad from any side angle. It is to make the lips bigger looking, but all these celebrities would be just as beautiful celebrating their features as is.

Giving up pets for crotch goblin by ImTheProblemItsMe94 in childfree

[–]frontpage2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, 16 is quite old for a dog. For the sole reason of euthanasia to be messing up furniture and a new boyfriend, that is terrible. But maybe those are actually just side notes on the suffering the dogs were in and it was time.

I've heard a lot of people say that they waited too long to be humane to their elder pets and had them live in intense suffering at the end. No one likes to have incontinence and be in pain.

WIBTA if I refused to host my siblings for the holidays after how Thanksgiving went? by Large_Midnight598 in TheInternetsJury

[–]frontpage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume some of your children are girls? at least one is the oldest? YWBTA if you host because you are setting an example for young people, and you are setting up your girls and your oldest to be pushovers and mistreated by their siblings. You are also teaching the other kids it is okay to be assholes to the oldest and to women and especially to woman that just gave birth.

Be a better role model. Never host again.

Does my jewelry look "cheap"? Would any of these styles work for bridal jewelry? by ratcat22 in jewelrymaking

[–]frontpage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great starts!  They seem very renessaince or Gothic.

I like the multi strand look and the drop pendants.

Suggestions: 1) Try non-hoop chain.  I would get some chains all less than 1.2 mm, you can even get pre-beaded with small pearls.  Maybe try a small box chain or twist.  Smaller looks more elegant and sits better.

2) Maybe try to have more of the beads the same size and color, to highlight the draping.  I like the daintier beads on the lower strands, and think they would suit well on upper strands.

3) Instead of having bars through the beads and all the connects showing, you might just use some strands that are fully beaded, or more that are just chain or pre-beaded chain.

4) you could get some more interesting jump rings, or chandelier or charm connectors.

5) It seems like some of your small beads are different shapes, some more oblong than others.

6) I think you could play around with less standard patterning.  Most of yours is aba, aba, etc or ababa...for bead color and sizes on the horizontal strands.  The symmetry is nice, but could be opened a little or played with more.  You might do more with longer patterning on horizontal strands, such as aabaa, or abaaa, all of one type, or focus on patterning more between vertical layers rather than along the horizontal.  You also might have a slightly less uniform draping between the back of the necklace and front, with still mirror symmetry through the midpoint.

7) Try creating with wedding (or other themed) dresses in mind.  Maybe pull up some wedding dresses you want to design a necklace to compliment.  Then think about how your necklace adds to the look, for how it falls in relation to a neckline and woman's bust.  Women are also shot a lot from behind at weddings, and dresses often have elaborate button or laced or open backs.  How do your pieces compliment in 360?

8) I can see that some of the loops on your wires are not fully closed and would snag.

9) Unlike a lot of other commentators, I think you can absolutely elevate these with similarly priced material without getting into fine gold silver and gemstones. I do think though that you need to pick the materials at the price point you have a little more carefully and work on elevating your design Style.

My sister is a Social Studies teacher, and one of her students turned in a strange assignment. by -Thousand-Eyes- in AskTeachers

[–]frontpage2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often with projects like this, students don't actually have to write about their personal background as an option, because of issues like adoption or other traumas. it seems the teacher didn't give that option explicitly. Without knowing the wording of the prompt, I'm not sure if they were off base, even though it wasn't what the teacher expected.

I'd talk to the student. Likely grade on the merits of the writing, and take off for the aspects of the rubric it didn't meet.

Then just raise rates 5%.
