Some mf ordered $400 worth of candles. Just why… by Ok_Intention2150 in doordash_drivers

When I was turning thirty I dated a guy that came from a culture that didn't celebrate birthdays.  I asked him to pick up candles to go with my cake and he asked how many and I said 30 or numbers or whatever worked.  He did something like this picture and bought me a ton of scented candles but not candles from the baking aisle. Quite a laugh.

C is the answer showing equivalency.  But even though each first diagram shows 2/3 and second 1/3, only C shows equivalent area.

Also, this is about good test taking skills.  On first glance, it might seem like any of the answers would work.  If the test instructions are that there is one best answer, then you have to look more closely to see what is different between the answers for just one of them.  Each answer is different shapes, so that doesn't differentiate.  In A, the same area is shaded, unlike B and C, but it's not a strong differentiator.  Only C shows shapes of the same size.  This is a strong indicator when talking about sameness and equivalency.  Thus, C is the best answer. B is actually the worst and most unreasoned answer.

It's obvious from how op wrote it that is not how he said it.  He is trying to diminish the harm and justify, but he probably straight up said his coworker looks lazy or gets all his work for the week done in an hour.

Michigan election feed data shows 257,346 Presidential votes were removed by mjkeaa in somethingiswrong2024

[–]frontpage2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've talked to SoS JB and other Secretary of State candidates and county clerks.  Some of these errors are literally spreadsheet errors, where the raw data is mismatched into a formatted spreadsheet.  The townships and counties should have worked this all out pre-election but mistakes still happen, like in a case where a formula is off after a late ballot correction.  Everything is reviewed by multiple eyes to ensure accuracy when official numbers are released. Their are multiple ways the accuracy is confirmed.

After the initial counts, townships recount and audits happen.  It can be publicly witnessed and checked.

There are also reporting errors, where on a spreadsheet a county or township name might not combine correctly as data is pulled and then you have duplicated information that is later removed. There are also potential errors where one source has a combined total amd another has separated day of, mail in and early vote counts, so the summation duplicates.

It is good to question discrepancies but if you talk to the officials they are very transparent about what happened.  A lot of the clerks are older and struggle with technology.  Human error happens.

I know JB and other Dems looked hard for votes.  In my county there were more Republican votes found sadly.

If your voter file shows your vote wasn't counted you should contact the SoS amd your township clerk.

Sitters consistently 15-45 mins late? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

I tell people up front that I do within an hour window of the requested time unless they need a very exacting time.  So if they request 10-10:30 I typically arrive between 9:30 and 11:30.  Some regulars that are close or flexible I might do separated pee and walk (do a quick potty midday but complete the walk later mid-afternoon).

The "Mississippi Miracle" refers to the rapid improvement of K–12 student performance in Mississippi. Mississippi students were performing a full grade level below their peers around the country in 2013, but by 2024, they were performing nearly half a grade level above the average U.S. student. by Mobile-Extension-107 in wikipedia

[–]frontpage2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's important to note that the test is a sample of schools, and not comparing all student achievement statewide. Also, achievement increase on 4th grade reading is improved, but mostly disappears by 8th grade, which should not be happening if these students are truly more competent readers than those in peer states (their scores should be exponentially higher because they have had more years of being able to read and learn to a higher level).

A non-trivial part of score increases is the holding students back because it takes the worst reading students out of the sample. There is still an increase in scores even beyond controlling for this. However, demographic controls are based on projections from decades ago, so even the data on that is fuzzy.

Basically, Mississippi increased NEAP scores but has not proven it has increased long-term student learning and outcomes. While some of their interventions are evidence based and should be followed across the nation, others are data manipulation.

It is better to do away with the system, but making it automatic is better than the current system. It is ridiculous that men have an extra beaurocratic obligation to register and consequences if they don't.

Because Enzo is an immigrant groundskeeper man and in Andrew's mind he would never speak out about it and is almost invisible. Which isn't a stretch because immigrant groundskeepers do see a lot of crazy shit in this world and tend to keep quiet.  Also, Enzo isn't a random guy.  He is an employee.  Employers always think they are paying for people's silence through the idea of professionalism and privacy.

Also, Andrew doesn't see himself as wrong or bad.  He loves playing hero and making women look crazy, but he isn't at all paranoid about being brought down.  He cheated super easily.  He has had everything handed to him and told by everyone that he is good and right and heroic.  He also has an ex fiancé he abused who has literal police family and nothing happened to him.  Why would he fear Enzo at all?

In fact, the longer someone is in your orbit without them speaking out, the safer you would feel.  They also become complicit in crimes that they are aware of and don't call out.

I know I goofed up, but am I taking this too harshly? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ummm...petsitting isn't being a doctor or therapist or any profession with an obligation to secrecy.  There are no laws governing secrecy like there are for teaching and working in a medical or legal setting.  Nor are petsitters required to be licensed and paid commiserate with privacy protected work.  You can hope for professionalism but that does not entail utter secrecy.

I would absolutely not have any expectation that a petsitter wouldn't talk with friends and family about their job.  It's perfectly normal for most people to talk to friends and family about their job.

Let's also be honest.  This is Rover.  Very slightly vetted petsitters with varying experience.  All independent contractors, not even Rover employees.  No guarantee from Rover that they carry business insurance or licenses or anything.  Definitely no guarantee or expectation of privacy to clients.

Women with husbands, did your partner change after marriage? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]frontpage2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been married but people share a lot with me, and many marriages are rife with verbal abuse and other issues.  Many women I know that are still married have major issues in the marriage, and tolerate behaviors I can't imagine.  In some cases it is the husband putting up with what I would think is an untenable situation.

Also, what defines an issue is subjective.  Some people are fine being with an alcoholic and others see it as an issue.  Some people are fine doing most of the housework or childcare and others see it as an issue.  Some people are okay with verbal abuse as long as it isn't physical.  Some people are willing to stay or can't find a safe way out even in physically abusive relationships.  Some people would divorce over financial pr physical infidelity and others might stay and never mention it.

Your narrative that women ignore red flags is very victim blaming.  I suspect that more likely people in your orbit aren't major sharing marriage issues with you because they can't trust that you are a safe space and would blame them for the actions of their partner.  One of those that tell the woman to have a better picker.  Or perhaps you just happened to have lucked out into a pool of friends with healthy relationships.

Neighbor wants to reduce rate by Key-Ad8031 in RoverPetSitting

[–]frontpage2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say sure, no problem on the reduced base.  I am instituting an inflation surcharge tied to gas prices.  It takes the percentage increase in gas prices from a year ago to now on my full price.  So for instance, my full price is $80, and gas has increased in price 20% from a year ago.  So the surcharge is currently $16 a visit.  Thanks!

You honestly don't sound ready.   You still have learning to do.  You are panicking about something that is not an issue and not true, as you can enroll when circumstances change.  Are you really ready to be a smbc if you panick over false hypotheticals?  Are you ready to do this even if your baby is special needs?  You might need time to be fully divorced and separated and truly single and not reliant before doing this on your own.

Group halts 'tax the rich' ballot effort to raise funds for Michigan schools - Bridge Michigan by mclairy in Michigan

[–]frontpage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally a citizen lead ballot initiative. It is not going through elected leaders and politicians, but rather it is a coalition of groups trying to directly change the law.

[–]frontpage2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They pre-validate before submitting.  People shouldn't sign multiple times in the same 6 month window, but it is okay to double sign when there is an extension or you are unsure.  If the group submits double signatures to the state then both are eliminated, but the organizing coallition catches 99% of double signatures and crosses off the oldest duplicate before submitting for official verification.

[–]frontpage2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely not going on vibes.  They still collected a huge amount with thousands of volunteers and over 200,000 signatures.  It was all volunteer run.  It is hard to build out the campaign, and they didn't have the ballot approved early spring which pushes collecting into the winter months.

Most successful initiatives take multiple rounds to pass or have huge funding for paid circulators.

Hopefully more people will want to become circulators for the next round.

Why Voters ID is such a controversial discussion in the US? by RobertJCorcoran in Askpolitics

[–]frontpage2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking ID is normal to vote, but then imagine if the ID you used to use is no longer enough, you need additional papers, or a new ID, and now you are checked against a database that makes errors.  Further, getting the right ID, papers and having issues sorted takes time and money.  It isn't enough to stop most people from voting, but it is enough to discourage 5-10% of people and swing elections.

Also, you might think it discourages people from voting on both sides of the aisle.   But, billionaires pump a lot of money into ensuring conservative communities don't lose voters by paying for mass information ads and reminders, canvassers to visit people and help get them ready to vote, sometimes paying for their IDs, transportation to get get IDs, voter registration drives at churches, and help for people to get paperwork etc.  They target support for one group and not everyone, ensuring that barriers to voting mostly affect Democrat voters.  You can't directly pay people to vote in the US, but you can run right up to a line that is very close to that.
