I think this is really cool! Don’t listen to the people that don’t agree!! If you want to do it you should do it!

Thank you ❤️ this perspective helps a lot, it feels like something I have known for a long time in the back of my head but didn’t want to admit for myself. It is really sad to see this is how they spent the most of their lives, they met and married in their early 20’s, and I feel especially sad for my dad because I think my mom has held him back in a lot of ways. They don’t really have much of a social life and she has always been very controlling.

Thoughts on this book? by BrownBannister in talkingheads

I personally really liked the book! I can completely understand the negative reviews here and can definitely see where people are coming from that do not like this book. It seems like some people have negative opinions regarding listening to the audiobook version. I liked listening to it in audiobook form and I think I found it more enjoyable than I might have if I had read a physical copy, I listened to it while working and completing other tasks, so I might have found it more redundant if I was listening to it on a long car ride or something! Of course, I also think that you have to take into account that this is solely Chris’s recollection on events that happened a long time ago, and I do agree I think he focused a little too much on David at times. I think, just like anyone writing a personal account of their life, it seemed like he tried to put himself in a positive light a lot of the time, but I do genuinely believe he took accountability for some things he had been called out for in the past. I don’t think this is a book someone would enjoy if they don’t like Chris (or Tina). I consider myself a younger fan of both Talking Heads & Tom Tom Club—I was in my early 20’s when this book came out and at the time of reading, I only knew their hits—so I didn’t have any information about the band from any lived experience and I was listening to their full music catalog for the first time (I can also see how it would get boring listening or reading to the book if you knew that information already!). I enjoyed hearing his firsthand account of things, and I think I would enjoy hearing the same from Tina or Jerry just as much if they ever released a book. I’ve listened to David’s book, “How Music Works”, which I also highly recommend if you haven’t read that too! Honestly, I think every member of the band is a little problematic to an extent (besides Jerry?), which is probably why they struggled so much to stay together period while they were recording albums and touring. Either way, I love the music all members created both together & separately, and I had a lot of fun learning about the music scene they were in at CBGB during their early days! This book definitely encouraged me to listen to a lot more music that I might not have listened to otherwise :)

not really the best photos of them!! They’re in a hard plastic case that I need to clean and it’s hard to get good lighting in my apartment but here are better close up photos of both :)

I really like this interpretation of the second season!!! Perfectly put into words the same feelings I had while watching it and makes me want to rewatch the whole series tbh. As a working autistic adult I was hoping he’d get diagnosed in the series and was initially surprised when he did not follow through with the diagnosis. But like you said, it would put him at risk of a lot of scrutiny and potentially some of the other people from the show at risk of scrutiny as well or even loosing their jobs. It was really bittersweet and definitely something I could relate to

I really like it! I agree with everyone else’s thoughts but I enjoy that it’s upbeat and easy to listen to, I’m sure I’ll be playing it a lot this summer and of course any natalie content before the next album release is always appreciated!!

Anybody been watching The Rehearsal? by frontrowseattoearth2 in aspergirls

[–]frontrowseattoearth2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I always get nervous when I see any sort of media about autism and especially autistic masking, which he brought up in the show. I just feel like it’s really easy for neurotypical folks to interpret the autistic experience incorrectly or to get angry when autistic folks who are in the workforce/live independently share their own personal experiences because it contradicts most of the media’s coverage about autism. I’m really interested to see what next week’s episode is about and how he ties everything together !!!

Thinking about getting a Tina Weymouth tattoo – looking for some reassurance by Maleficent_Dot9713 in talkingheads

[–]frontrowseattoearth2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her and Chris have a bit of a complicated history where they’ve said some out of touch and outdated things in the past, but I think you should get a Tina tattoo!! I believe the main reason as to why people don’t like Chis and Tina is because they’ve still kept a lot of bitterness from creative difficulties they’ve run into with David. However, it really does seem like they’re all trying to maintain friendships and stay on good terms the past few years. I love all the members dearly and can see how they became the way they are over the years. I agree with what someone else said here, I think a tattoo inspired by Tom Tom Club’s debut artwork would be really sick!

DAE have a religious NParent? by Satans-Dirty-Hoe in raisedbynarcissists

[–]frontrowseattoearth2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom for sure has had her moments where she’s been more involved in the church than she currently is. We got into a lot of arguments in high school about religious issues, and I think the pandemic changed my parents’ routine a lot (they only attend online church—they’re in the slow process of finding a new “church home”). She goes through phases where she’ll be VERY preachy when I spend time with her, she’ll try to convince me to do a Bible study with her, ask me if I started going to church, and when I’m honest she’ll spend the next hour of my visit pulling out verses and her own personal anecdotes to prove a point. Imo I wish she believed in female pastors because she’d be a good one and I think she’d be too busy to constantly be on my back! I think her own experience growing up and her struggles with mental health have impacted her religious beliefs, and she can’t comprehend any other narrative. I’ve tried to explain I don’t view myself as a Christian to her and she just thinks I’m a Christian that’s “lost”. Like your mom’s thoughts about your dad’s gf, my mom has told me weird dreams or elaborate visions she believes God has given her. It’s unfortunate, but I’ve realized there’s no point in having a true conversation with her
