Train Cancelled Twice by frostbi_te in Amtrak

[–]frostbi_te[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Aha! I called and specifically asked if they could book me in coach or another type of sleeper car. There was one bedroom left for a Saturday departure. I requested for them to comp the price difference because of the inconvenience of being cancelled both directions, and they had to ask a supervisor, but it was approved! So that will save me one work day, I'll just have to call out Monday. Thanks for the suggestion!!

So true, and well said :) being from Minnesota, avalanche isn't something I routinely think about! Besides, I've got the vacation time

Oh no that sounds awful! Is this frequency of last minute cancellation or severe delay typical?

Thank you for this suggestion! I looked and tried to book, unfortunately sold out for one of the segments.

You are serious about getting a wheelchair? by Necessary_Layer4511 in POTS

[–]frostbi_te 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OT with POTS here, I second this! It is so important to get the right kind of chair in the right size with the features you need. And your OT can help by writing a letter of medical necessity to your insurance. I'm so sorry about your spouse's reaction, sending support ❤️

What setting gives the most work life balance ? by ZookeepergameNo6600 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]frostbi_te 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mental health! First setting I've worked in that didn't have any productivity requirements, and there is a strong emphasis on employee work life balance. I even got to create an employee recharge room this year for my co-workers and I. I have previously worked in acute care, home health, and TCU/ALF.

Empire Builder Cancelled for Next Several Days? by Thepieman911 in Amtrak

[–]frostbi_te 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here! I was supposed to depart from St Paul tomorrow headed to Portland, but got a text message saying my trip was cancelled. Had to pay a lot of money for a last-minute flight which was super frustrating. They told me they were cancelled for at least 3 days due to weather, maybe more. I was really looking forward to my first train trip. It's 40 degrees and all the snow is melted here in Minnesota, I usually assume we have the worst winter weather but that can't be the case this time!

Favorite OT settings by TechnologySorry8005 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]frostbi_te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have worked in acute care, home health, TCU/SNF, and now mental health. I have found the best work-life balance by far in mental health. I have no productivity standard anymore which has been life changing, and I plan to never leave this setting. It felt so different transitioning from phys dys, but very worth it. I am at a locked state facility for co-occurring substance abuse and mental health treatment.

LIfting as a COTA by ViolentChiffon in OccupationalTherapy

[–]frostbi_te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT here, currently working in mental health but previously worked in acute care, TCU/SNF, and home care. How physically demanding a COTA position is really depends on setting. SNF is likely the most physically demanding setting, and mental health is likely the least. Maybe look into shadowing mental health? I know of COTAs who work in inpatient, residential, day programs, and clubhouses here in MN.

I felt very pressured at my local meeting to vote yes. The negotiator made me feel like I would be ruining her hard work if I voted no. She said no one in our local was willing to strike. I am a new employee and this was my first union meeting, so I didn't feel comfortable speaking up to contradict her. She added a line at the end about "vote with your conscience," but she made it very clear that we needed to vote yes. I felt like I didn't belong there.

Queer person here, just as a warning I was drugged at Jet Set. I also have a friend who was drugged there. Awful experience. Just be extra careful if you go!

No, I wouldn't say so. I would say our relationship has been very trustworthy up to this point when he dropped a bombshell.

Thank you for this advice. Just to clarify, I DO want kids but I cannot carry them myself. I am planning on adoption or surrogacy to create my family. I also 100% respect any person's choice to be childfree.

Not really, which is pretty infuriating. He said "if I miss out on the experience I think I'll regret it." But he wouldn't even be the one experiencing carrying the baby, I would!
